We needed the exterior of the house repaired and painted. Siding, facia, wood pieces replaced, etc. Jimmy was quick to respond via email, call and text whenever we had a question on the job, or if weather looked iffy for the day. He stayed in contact throughout the job, gave us a really good price and we're pleased with the results!

We had kitchen cabinets that were water damaged and had several layers of paint. Cabinet Elves took them in and made them look as if they were brand new again. They also helped us to rebuild our island to fit a microwave and created a new drawer from scratch matching our cabinets. I would hire them again on a heartbeat.

I've hired Kevin to do repairs on my house a couple of times. He repaired damage from a tree hitting my house, replaced the gutter and soffit, shingles, etc. Also replaced a bay window and repaired rotted wood around my front door. I've found his work to be professional and prices to be fair and will call him next time I need that type of work done.

Anthony is meticulous - a true professional. He painted some cabinet doors and drawers for our rental property, as well as a deck and a door, and we couldn't have been happier. He knew we were working under a deadline, and worked very hard to get the job done in a timely manner. Anthony has a high commitment to quality. I would highly recommend him!

Peter did an excellent job with a fully custom cabinet for our fireplace. He came out and drew out various options/sketches. He then builds the cabinet in his workshop and then brings the materials to install in under a day. He is very professional and trustworthy. Can't wait to think of another project and hire Petre.

I could not have asked for a better cabinet installer than Masoud. He was extremely patient as I worked out (reworked and reworked again) my kitchen layout, he was always very punctual , professional and meticulous about his craft. He offered suggestions for improvement and executed the plans perfectly. We were so pleased we plan to have him back for additional trim work! There’s no denying he takes pride in his work!

Mr. Nelson is an excellent Carpenter, he is very professional, and has a pleasant personality. I needed corbels and supports to carry the weight of granite on an eight foot kitchen island/counter. In his first visit, he measured the island and informed me of the best placement for the corbels and supports. Within a couple days he emailed me a professional diagram of the island with the recommended placement of corbels and supports. The finished products were exactly want I had hoped for. The corbels were designed and stain to match the island cabinet, perfectly. The supports were better than want some installers recommend. He installed the corbels and supports in a timely manner, before the granite counter top arrived. The granite counter top rested firmly and perfectly on the corbels, supports and cabinet. I am so pleased with his work that I will hire him for future carpentry projects. Please see photos below.

Home Swwet Home did the cabinet work for our kitchen remodel. I can’t recommend these guys enough. We have been working with a lot of contractors these days and Home Sweet Home was defiantly the best of them all, night and day versus our experiences with others They are professional, show up on time, keep a clean workspace and most important of all, do beautiful work. My wife and I would highly recommend them.

I hired Johnathan Lee of Owl Creek Renovations to replace fascia boards on my house which were damaged by bees and woodpeckers as well as to install insulation and drywall in my garage. He always arrived in the morning when he said he would , did a wonderful job, and even repaired some areas he hadn't noticed when he gave me his proposal. I am very happy with his work. Johnathan is an excellent communicator and responded to all of my questions very quickly. The whole job required removing gutters and replacing the damaged wood and then replacing the gutters. Working with him was Jason Both men were courteous, careful, and competent in their work. You can't go wrong by hiring Owl Creek Renovations and I'm glad I found them on Thumbtack. E. Suzanne has created nothing but top-quality work since she got into the business. She puts all of her creativity and art form into her creations whether it be painting and refurbishing cabinets or taking an old piece of beat up furniture and turning into a masterpiece! She truly has the born talent for this artistry and I think it’s wonderful that she is able to take that talent and have her own company where she can share her expertise with others. She is very reasonably priced and get’s the job done in a timely manner. I highly recommend The Painted Piece to anyone who is considering restoring something that they don’t want to spend all the extra money to buy new. She can re-create its beauty and make it gorgeous again!

Shabby Little Secrets was amazing! They provided me with great suggestions for my kitchen cabinet makeover and their price was the lowest out of SIX estimates we received. Her samples and detailed description of their refinishing process really put our minds at ease. Choosing Shabby was not a hard choice! Ashley came in and did everything she was supposed to and MORE! She even painted the backs of the doors free of charge since our budget was capped out. Her work was phenomenal and she will be vack later in the year for all of our bathrooms. If you are in need of quality, affordable, beautiful work- pick Shabby Little Secrets and they will take care of you! Thanks so much for all your hard work! Much appreciated.

I commissioned a custom piece that would hold curated pieces from various trips around the world the cabinet turned out fantastic and is truly a one of a kind piece. The only complaint I have is that the piece looks so good I'm going to have to remodel my entire kitchen cabinetry now.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.
