I hired Felipe to strip popcorn , scrape and paint the ceilings in 3 rooms in my house. He did a great job. I have had this process done before and Felipe's work was better than anyone I have used before. He arrived early ahead of schedule and worked all day. My project took approximately 2 days and he finished exactly as we agreed. I would like to add that Felipe always answered his messages and phone calls. He and his team took great care in moving furniture and clean up afterwards. I was extremely pleased. I have already schedule another project with him for the summer to replace sheetrock, mud and paint the outside carport and front porch. I think everyone will be pleased hiring Felipe. Jessica C. I was in need of some exterior repairs to my home, including replacing siding on a chimney, replacing the facing on a bay window and some soffit/and exterior repairs above the front door. In addition to this work, we had the entire home pressure washed,, painted and the front porch and deck stained. The house looks fabulous! I know they offer interior work as well and will definitely be looking to them for future projects.

Jerome was great. He did a porch painting and repair project for me. He also installed a ceiling fan. He was prompt, communicative, professional, friendly. The project took forever because of the terrible weather. He was out there working any time there was a break in the weather that allowed it. He was not able to get my ceiling fan to work properly because of old wiring. He worked on it for many hours, really went the extra mile when other people would have given up. I ended up having to get an electrician because it's an old house.

Mr. Jimmy helped to repair, paint and improve our home. We had old exterior paint, missing siding and rotted wood on the soffits, plus a small porch with rotted wood columns. Him and his team pressure washed my house, repaired all the rotted siding and soffits, painted and built a new porch that is twice the size of the old one. It took 1 week for him to take my house from old to new and make it the best looking house on the block. We had and still have more work to do but I am VERY happy with the outcome. Mr. Jimmy shows up when he says he will with a team of professionals. This was my first time with an exterior project this big. He went above and beyond to let me know about pricing when he ran into something unexpected. He worked within my budget as close as he could and explained everything up front. We would hire him again.

Basement was just studded. Bob finished it. Moved walls to make a larger bathroom, an exercise room and closets. Laid tile where needed. Bob also tiled the upstairs kitchen, laundry room and 2 bathrooms. Did backsplash in kitchen. Redid screened in porch. His work is excellent and I appreciated his efficiency when working. His work is up to code and he gives great ideas. There is nothing I can say for improvement I am very pleased with the work he did.

I hired TNT to do a rebuild and re-pitch of a roof over my sun porch, delete skylights, install 2 new doors for said porch, and fix various places that had water damage around the house, to include an area under the deck that was causing the deck to pull away from the house. With that amount of work needed, and before I talked to anyone, I knew the price for the work would be in the upper thousands. I chose TNT because they had a very fair price in the middle of the range of quotes I got, and the best value for that money. One thing I encourage anyone hiring a contractor to do is make up and sign a contract with them. DO THIS with ANY contractor, and LEAVE THE DEAL if they give you a hard time about wanting a contract. Michael and TNT have a contract already made up, and you and them can add/take out whatever you want before the job even starts. Michael even told me that he really liked that I asked for a contract because it protects BOTH parties. On my end, I put in a provision that before I gave him any money, I had to have a walk around with them and let them know whether or not the work was up to my liking. This was no problem, and they would answer any questions my wife or I had, and showed us examples if needed. So, really everyone, always get a contract!! As for the work, everything looks great! Our roof actually lets water drain into our gutters instead of leaking into our sun room. Our house does not have any more holes in it from water damage or animals, and it really helped the curb appeal of the house. Most important, the deck was not just pulling away from the house the joists under our master the deck was attached to were water damaged. I was shown where all of the problems were so I could understand what was happening and how they would be corrected. It only added 1 day to the timeline, which we were glad about. The guys (mostly Michael's sons) came on time, and cleaned up after themselves everyday. We have 2 dogs who use the backyard and the gate was not left open once when they weren't there. We can't even say that about ourselves. Hopefully you have read this far down and I hope I have helped ease your mind about going with TNT. You won't regret it. Ask for the contract, make it your own, and enjoy whatever project they do for you!

Richard did a fantastic job replacing our deck. He was easy to work with through the entire process and gave us a very fair price. After tearing up our old deck, he discovered problem areas in our deck foundation and made adjustments immediately to repair or replace those areas. He is extremely knowledgeable and thorough, and his work is top notch. We have done several jobs using Thumbtack and he was the best by far. Thank you!

Many mixed feelings, as the job took much longer than anyone expected and a second man had to come in, clean up and finish the mess the first man started. However, I am still giving four stars because the end result was mostly what I wanted. I also know Keith was extremely sorry for all the mistakes. I know that doesn't make it all okay, but I have my porch enclosed and it will be a great little space. Thank you!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who is a carpenter and what do they do?

Carpenters are skilled craftsmen who build things out of wood. Depending on what the carpenter builds, they may be referred to by various names. A framer is a carpenter who puts up the framing on a house. A trim or finish carpenter installs the finishing touches of prefabricated or custom trim and detail work once a house has been built and the walls are up. A furniture maker or woodworker builds furniture — such as tables, beds and dressers — out of wood. A cabinetmaker is a carpenter who builds custom and semi-custom wood cabinets. If you’re having a home built or remodeled, your general contractor will either provide or subcontract the carpentry work for the framing, cabinets and trim. You can hire a carpenter directly to update the trim in your home, build you a piece of custom furniture, or repair or replace your wood cabinets.

Do carpenters build houses?

Carpenters are trained to work with wood. That means that any part of your home that is built of wood is very likely to involve a carpenter. Framing carpenters will put up the wood that makes up the bones of your home. If you’re having a wood floor installed, it may be done by a carpenter — although being a carpenter is not a requirement to install flooring. Trim, baseboards, wainscoting and any other detail work is typically installed by a finish carpenter. The wood boxes of custom cabinets will be built and installed by a carpenter.

Although all of these components in your new or remodeled home are built by carpenters who specialize in building things with wood, a general contractor typically oversees construction of the entire house. If the general contractor is also a carpenter skilled in all these areas, they may well construct your entire home. More often, the general contractor subcontracts out the various building stages to different individuals, including carpenters.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
