Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: My approach. My approach to teaching is simple: Not everyone that takes music lessons wants to learn Classical music. I'm not saying that learning Classical music doesn't have merit. The methods used in teaching and learning Classical forms of music are certainly beneficial and have provided a sort of "backbone". But let's face it, we're in the 21st century where there is more interest in Sirius than soliloquies, in Gaga than Gershwin. I try to find the benefit in ALL the world's music produced. We can learn anything, if we're passionate about music. I love that moment when a student has been hearing me say the same thing over and over for weeks. Then, all of a sudden, it "clicks" for them, and they say "I got it!! I got it!!!" and it NEVER CEASES TO MAKE MY DAY.

Dena is knowledgeable and patient. This is my 4th try to learn playing guitar, and I've done more in two months withe Dena than I did in the last two decades on my own.

Dena has been amazing! She and my daughter instantly clicked and has made learning how to play the guitar fun and less overwhelming than my daughter thought it would be. We both look forward to her weekly lessons!

FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I've been teaching on and off for about 20 years. I was (and sometimes still am) a professional working singer and musician. I started teaching while still in college, and then taught from my home or theirs over the years. I have always enjoyed it and have been able to keep students for years at a time.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Don't settle for any music teacher out there because they fit in your price range. Do your homework. Find out their philosophy about teaching. How long have they been doing it? Do they sing/play what you (or your child) sing/play? And, do they "tune in" to your needs?
