We hired Equality to replace rotting trim and damaged hardiplank, to paint the entire exterior and trim on our two story stucco front home, and to paint our interior two-story foyer. The quote we received was competitive, the painters were professional and courteous, and the job foreman was very communicative, keeping us updated on findings while working to replace trim, fascia and hardiplank. Work was done neatly, with a thorough clean up every day. Finished result: gorgeous. Multiple compliments from neighbors. Very happy, would hire again.

Carlos showed up on time to install an electrical receptacle and cable outlet above our fireplace. His helper Jose did a fantastic job repairing the drywall and matching our paint in the living room after the installation. Carlos also mounted our TV bracket and installed the TV above our fireplace. He was extremely professional and courteous. We experienced an electrical issue after the installation and Carlos was more than willing and came back out the very next day to replace a bad existing receptacle that was causing the issue. I would definitely recommend him as well as contact him for later projects as well.

I hired Felipe to complete some drywall, paint, and railing repairs in our basement after we had a small foundation leak and the remediation company company removed the bottom 2 feet of drywall in 3 rooms. I also decided to have him paint our bedroom, prep and paint over 15 year old wallpaper in our dining room, and paint the other rooms in the basement. All I can say is that he did an awesome job. Showed every day at 7am and basically worked to 6pm. Prepped the work areas to make sure the areas stayed clean (floors, furniture, etc) and made sure I was happy with each repair before moving onto the next one. Would absolutely recommend him to anyone needing drywall and paint work done.

I had the rgSmith paint crew to my house to paint our kitchen and dining room. I had been suffering with an ugly red kitchen for 5 years, and the crew was able to come in and make me feel like I was in a new home in just one day. The work was quick, of excellent quality and the price was the best I was quoted. I will definitely be using them in the future!

Found out about J&H Painting from neighbor in Woodstock, GA. Phoned for a house painting estimate and Hal came out for consultation. Hal responded promptly and professionally and I received detailed estimate next day. After receiving HOA approval Hal scheduled project for next week and a professional paint crew arrived on time and completed project within three days. Very satisfied with J&H Painting service and product. A very professionally run company.

Great work! Aaron stayed till 3 am till my massive IKEA build was completed. He knew his stuff and stressed safety and building the products to high specifications (there were no screws or bolts left over when he was done)! He knows IKEA stuff and built me 3 chest of drawers, 1 makeup vanity and 1 bed. He also helped me hang a painting above the bed. Highly recommended!

This was our first time hiring off thumbtack. Was very happy witj how quickly people started to respond. We had 4 people come ou and give quotes for tile backsplach and interior paint. We ultimately chose express painting for his knowledge and quick responses. I cant stand someone who doesn't return my calls. We are pleased with the house. One cause i didnt have to do it and two the price and it came out nicely. My only compalints with express painting are how they rush through. I was disappointed when i came hkme the first day to hear they were wrapping up and in my opinion it wasnt done. Lots of rushed and missing areas and old paint bleeding through. We spoke to the guys there and they had already put up most of the stuff. We explained to them that we were not happy and touch ups needed to be done. They called kris and he called us back right away and we explained how some parts were missing and he agreed to make them do it. I hated to watch them pack up but they said they had somewhere else to be. As we walked through the house with open eyes as they started to work again we noticed so much more. Corners that hadnt been repaired like we discussed. We told the main guy and you could see he wasnt happy as they knew fixing it would require them to come back to paint. We called kris who did not answer twice. We then sent a text messgae and he said he couldnt call right now but called his worker right in front of us. So i was a little disappointed about that. He then called us and i explained i didn't want to be rushed in the repairs wr felt like we needed to make. I mean we just spent 1150 on paint. I wanted it right. He assured me he wasnt rushing hut didnt wanna come back 6 times for touch ups which threw me off. I wa shoping to hear that he wanted it right. He told us to use blue tape and marl the areas of disappointment and they would return the next day to fix it. We spent time and did just that. They came and as i got home were wrapping up again. 98% of things were done. Still a few places werent fixed but we are getting carpet next week so we can paint the places oursleves at that time in case the carpet people make an scuffs. I would recommend him just remind them to slow down. I know time is money bit the interior is so important. You see it everyday and notice all the imperfections. We would hire him again for another project just for his willingness to return phone calls. I would have rated perfect if not the rush feeling we had

We had a very unique situation in that we are a corporate group that was sponsoring a bedroom makeover for children in an after-school program that we support. The bedrooms were in bad shape to start and needed some serious work before we even could paint. Abner and Josue worked with us and were flexible about not being able to do a site visit, and Gustavo was amazing and flexible about the intensity of the work. They worked with our volunteers for an amazing rate and made a transformation possible for this family who otherwise may not have been able to create these spaces for their children. The project ran much longer than expected, and they were understanding and flexible the whole time. Thank you so much!

We had Final Touch Painting paint our den and 1/2 bath. Not only was Tracey prompt each day, but she did an excellent job on these two rooms. She was very neat and we would highly recommend her and Final Touch. In fact, we liked her work so much that we are going to have her power wash and stain our deck. 😄

Sean and his team are AMAZING! We decided we wanted to paint the walls a day before we moved in and I didn't think it'd be possible to find a painter. Sean contacted me right away and it's the best decision yet. He's extremely professional, does an INCREDIBLE job, and couldn't have asked for better service. He's easy to communicate with, arrives on time, and I cannot recommend Sean and his guys enough. Not only are we having him finish the rest of our house, our in-laws are hiring him too. He will not disappoint!

The initial quote was very competitive and they had great reviews so I was happy to hire NDC. I would recommend them to anyone and plan to hire them again for future projects.

I hired Mr. Baynes to paint the interior of my house. It was a large job (including walls, ceilings, trim and doors). He did a wonderful job. He was on time each day, trustworthy (I was comfortable going to work while he painted). He cleaned everything up before leaving each day and kept in touch to let me know his progress. I would highly recommend Mr. Baynes and will certainly use him again for some other projects around my house.

Salvador completed my painting project perfectly!!! He was on time and very professional.......the job was not easy in my rental home. After Salvador sanded chipped paint, mudded and primered it came out looking as if not damage was ever there. I am very pleased and plan on using Salvador again to re-do an outdated bathroom. He is very talented!!!!!! Can not say enough good things about his work:) Michelle

I made arrangements to have two rooms painted. They were on time and very professional. They were to match the paint I had in the great room but they showed me a color that was richer in color. After they finished my bedroom it was so pretty that I had them to paint the rest of my house. It is beautiful and my daughter and my girls friend agreed. I can wait until Tuesday when the interior decorators see it. I know she will love it and it matches my new furniture. When they got through they when over the work they had done to make sure it was excellent. I love it!!!!

I hired Joshua to paint the entry way stairs in my house. They were old, scratched, and outdated! After setting up an appointment, he arrived on time, made several suggestions and wrote a proposal/contract before leaving. We had excellent communication throughout the job, and he performed his reasonably priced work in a thoroughly professional, competent and efficient manner. He went beyond the specifics of the contract to ensure a fully satisfactory result, and made several helpful suggestions. It was a pleasure to have him and his assistant in my house for this work. I enthusiastically recommend him, and have no reservations about hiring him in the future.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
