Carlos was great to work with. I hired him to handle my lighting on a reno project and he was quick and efficient to install new lighting throughout the house and added can lights in the kitchen. He later came to my rescue when a previous contractor didn’t work out and was quick to pick up the add’l work installing new flooring, a ceiling repair, painting and fixing a tile backsplash in the kitchen. Thanks to him, I was finally able to sell my property and everyone complemented the finishes especially, thanks to Carlos!!

He and his assistant Brian were awesome, they worked hard from the moment they arrived until the job was complete. TNT quickly came in and did a high quality job of correcting a problem caused by the previous remodel contractor. TNT also provided some further refinements to my condo to put it in excellent condition. I would highly recommend TNT.

Hired Bobby to do some remodeling to get our house in shape for selling. he had a lot of good ideas on changes, fixes, upgrades that would enhance the value. He provided a detailed estimate at a fair price and did an excellent job in performing all the work. he even went above and beyond and did some work not in the original estimate...and did not charge us! he always showed up when he said he would and worked long hours to complete the project when he said he would. I had planned to hire several different contractors for the project (remodeling, painting, landscaping, general clean-up) but Bobby was able to do the entire project saving us time in trying hire and manage several separate contractors. I would highly recommend Bobby & Christian Brother Remodeling for any remodeling project.

I was so impressed with the two-man crew who came to do the work at my house. They were thorough, careful, and checked in with me throughout the job to make sure I was satisfied. Even when I decided that I needed one more coat of paint to cover my formerly very dark cabinets, they willingly complied. They were able to achieve a ceiling repair that most other contractors had said would be much more difficult. They handled it like a breeze. I like the little touches, like going out to their truck on a smoke break, rather than smoking anywhere near the house. I will definitely use this company again !!

Jose' and Ali are finishing up several projects at my house. The big one was a renovation to my patio where I wanted to remove 2 of the support pillars, add a LVL beam and change the existing beams to stacked stone. It was a big project, but the job they did is outstanding and they did it in record time. They also replaced 2 doors that were rotting out. I've been looking for a contractor like this since I moved into my current house. They have earned a customer for life. Their prices are very reasonable, they work very hard to make sure it's right, and they do fantastic work. They'll be back for the other future projects I can dream up, not to mention the repairs that any house needs from time to time.

Bryant has done electrical work for us twice. We are remodeling our bathroom, and this has required moving and installing outlets and light switches and wiring for light fixtures. Bryant arrived on time, and spent time confirming exactly what we wanted done. He is professional and friendly, works quickly, and leaves no mess behind. We are very happy with the quality of his work and will ask for him again whenever we need electrical work done.

My visit with Artistic Design Roofing and Remodeling was absolutely beyond what I expected. Mr. Crutcher came out and presented himself as a professional from the moment he stepped into my home. Previously, I had multiple people come out to assess my problem, only to arrive and tell me that they didn't have the necessary equipment or ladder to reach my roof. Some arrived only to tell me that they didn't go up that high. So as you can imagine I was pretty frustrated with people showing up only to say they couldn't help me. Fortunately, when I first spoke with Mr. Crutcher over the phone he asked ALL the right questions to insure that he felt he could handle the job. Once he arrived he listened intentionally to my issues, concerns and previous experiences. He assessed my gutter and roof, and then presented me with an affordable quote. Typically when an appointment is scheduled for a quote you anticipate having to schedule for another visit and someone else that will actually come to complete the job. The quote was reasonable so I accepted. But to my surprise Mr. Crutcher actually came prepared to work. So he immediately got started and finished the job in a timely manner, but not rushed!! He then presented me with a detailed receipt along with findings and recommendations for future work. As well as follow-up advice for hail damage service that wasn't completely done. He also volunteered to return as the professional to explain his findings to the insurance company, before I could even ask. I look forward to working with him again in the near future and would highly recommend him to others!!!

I called Eric initially to change a chandelier in my dining room which he did for a great price and came out great. I inquired about recessed lighting in my family room and his price was literally almost half of what another contractor quoted me. Eric came back and installed 6 recessed lights with LED trims and even installed a dimmer for me for no extra charge. He is very clean and even though he had to cut holes in the wall to run wiring when he finished there wasn't dust all over the place and the wall looked the same as before. I will definetly be bringing Eric back for some more household projects in the future starting with updating my kitchen backsplash.

We hired Don with Affordable Contracting to repair a number of projects around the house. One was a large 8' x 8' drywall replacement in the ceiling from a previous leak, along with replacing crown molding and the finishing touches. Also we needed the flooring replaced with tile in the upstairs bathroom from the same leak. Another couple of odd jobs like cabinet flooring replacement and replacing a rotting board around the outdoor, door frame. Don took care of all of this in an extremely professional and very timely manner and the work was impeccable. He added much needed finishing touches that we did not even think of without additional costs. He showed up immediately when I was available, gave me a fantastic estimate, final pricing and was beyond courteous. Don is not the first contractor I have dealt with recently but is by far the best one I've come across and the only one I will ever call again for future projects. Highly recommended!

Brent was great to work with! He was prompt with his on-line response, he was on time to evaluate the project, is very knowledgeable about the siding/trim replacement, and gave me a verbal quote before he left. After hiring him for the project, he and his crew arrived on-time every morning, and typically worked into the evenings to complete the job on schedule. He is a hands-on owner, with attention to detail, and works side by side with his crew. You can count on him to be on-site, and personally manage the quality of the work. I’ve hired several contractors throughout the years, and right now, I have a hard time thinking of any that were better to work with than Brent. Definitely two 👍 👍!

Overall I am very pleased with the way my gate turned out. The only hiccup was when Keith came out he quoted me a price which I assumed was for labor and materials. Turns out it was for only labor. Yes it was stated on my quote, but everything was done on his mobile phone to process our transaction. I did not open the quote to review. We talked and it seemed great so I hired him. It has been a very rare event to have a contractor come to my house and only quote me labor and if they did, they specifically mentioned it to me while talking. I should have asked, but I felt like Keith should have stated it was for labor only. In the end Keith ate half the cost ($150 roughly) of the materials to make it right which was very much appreciated.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why should you hire a contractor?

Hiring a general contractor is a good idea for many remodeling projects. Home renovation contractors have a broad range of skills to manage, coordinate and complete a project. They should help make sure your project comes in on time and within your budget as they hire and supervise all the necessary subcontractors, including electricians and plumbers. They also handle procuring all the materials required for your job. Some homeowners look to save money by acting as their own contractor, but an experienced home renovation contractor is worth the cost. They should know local building codes, be able to pull all necessary permits, and work with inspectors to make sure the construction meets local codes. Also, because they get professional discounts, they can typically buy materials at a better price than you can; better prices on materials and labor save you money, and make up for at least a percentage of the cost of the contractor.

When should you hire a contractor?

A few home remodeling projects can be done by an ambitious DIY-minded homeowner or local handyman, but many are best completed by a professional home renovation contractor. You should hire a contractor when you’re planning a large project that takes time, machinery or large tools, and several workers; a kitchen remodel, new bathroom or home addition will be most successful with a licensed, expert contractor at the helm. It’s particularly important to have a professional contractor on board for construction, electrical, plumbing and HVAC projects that require inspections to meet local building codes. Of course, you can hire a contractor for smaller projects, too, if you prefer to let an expert handle things like addition or removal of a wall, small framing projects, or anything that requires a permit.

You should hire a contractor when you’re ready to start a remodeling project and you have plans, a budget and a timeline for the work in hand, but before any remodeling work begins.

How much will it cost to remodel my house?

The cost to remodel a home is highly variable — size and scope of the project, quality of materials, and the number of subcontractors required to complete the job all affect the total cost. The average national cost of a home renovation project is $13,500. The national average per-square-foot cost of a remodel ranges from $25 to $100. Nationally, kitchen and bathroom remodels are the most popular types of projects, in part because they typically have the highest return on investment when the home is sold. The national average cost of a major kitchen remodel ranges from $25,000 to $62,000, while the average bathroom remodel tends to cost $6,000 to $18,000. In addition to materials and labor costs, many remodeling project costs include permit fees, which, average $900 or more, depending on your location.

Do I need a contractor for a kitchen remodel?

A kitchen remodel is one of the most important investments you can make in your home, and it’s critical to get the details right; that’s where a home renovation contractor comes in. A minor remodel usually includes new cabinet faces and hardware, replacement appliances, and paint, while an extensive job may enlarge the kitchen’s square footage, install new cabinets or an island, change the layout, and lay new tile or hardwood floors. Any renovation that includes filing permits, construction, or electrical or plumbing work is best completed by an experienced contractor who knows local codes.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
