The grass was overgrown because it was unattended for over two months (right during springtime). She did a great job and was responsive with my texts. She even got rid of a few garden snakes (including a copperhead) - thank you very much!!

Aaron came the same day I chose him, to provide an estimate on the work that I needed done. He was very polite and gave me a reasonable rate for my large, wildly overgrown lawn. I explained that, in the past I'd had some bad experiences with lawn services chopping down things that I didn't want cut and ignoring other areas that I asked to be cut down. He listened and did the work exactly as I asked. He and his partner came the very next morning and whipped everything into great shape! I'm very happy with the work that they did and would definitely recommend Leafy Lawns!

I just had my second landscaping project completed by Genesis. The first project was in December 2015 and involved removing underbrush and small trees around the perimeter of my yard for installation of a privacy fence. I was so satisfied with their work I hired them to come back to clear out the rest of the underbrush in my backyard and to cut some tree limbs that had grown over into my neighbor’s yard. I also had them install sod and remove shrubs in the front yard and plant a couple of vines next to an arbor. It was a lot of work since I have a big yard and they completed the project in 2 days. They did an excellent job of cleaning up afterwards and the chief landscaper, Marcos, was awesome. Before starting work on the project he did a walkthrough with me to make sure he knew exactly how I wanted things to look. We did another walkthrough afterwards and I could not have been happier with their work. I can actually walk around my backyard now without tripping over underbrush and I appreciated how his crew did not damage or remove any of the vegetation I liked and wanted left alone. The only word of caution when it comes to hiring a small landscaping company is that it’s important to allow for some flexibility when it comes to scheduling. My project was delayed because of bad weather which led to them falling behind schedule with a couple of their other clients. That did not bother me because I was not in a rush to get the job done, but not everyone is as flexible as I am. The important thing for me was that the job got done right the first time and Genesis did just that. We are already discussing our next landscaping project and I will definitely be using their services again. Thanks for the great job!

Great work with lawn maintenance and gardening. This company is professional, and even sent me a well-written email describing what has been done with pictures. This is above and beyond.

Company provides immediate quotes based on Google Earth views and measurements of your garden. An in-person visit might have avoided one small missed area and one area that was weed-eated unnecessarily. However they got all the edging done so professionally that i am happy to have them come in regularly. The garden looks so well manicured now! They did a thorough job. Nothing half-hearted about it. Prices reasonable.

Marco Bolanos was quick to respond to my request for an onsite inspection and quote for sod installation. I mention this because so many other landscaping companies took days and weeks to respond to my request. I was provided a competitive quote for the sod installation which was detailed with a complete breakdown of cost. Out of several quotes I selected Marco not because he was cheaper than the competition but due to his knowledge and experience in the industry. He was one of the few who provided very specific recommendations on which sod to install and the required method of installation. I recommend Marco Bolanos landscaping services as he purchases high grade sod and provides a six month guarantee on his installation. My sod was installed with his personal oversight and done professionally.

I selected Martin to install several landscape features for my project: - A 30ft CMU retaining wall with brick ties - 25-30ft long boulder wall that is around 3ft tall - Two rain gardens (90sqft and 45sqft) with amended soil and ran the gutter lines into the gardens. Martin did a great job of explaining the entire process in detail from the specs of the wall to how the drainage will work. Rain gardens are a fairly new watershed requirement for the city of Atlanta and Martin researched the code to ensure that I would not have any issues during the site inspection. He was also very flexible in changing the scope of work as we progressed. We were impressed by his work and ended up having him do additional work which included: - A 25ft timber wall - CMU wall and piers for the front porch - Plant a Forest Pansy Redbud tree in the large rain garden During the project, we had a fairly heavy rain and I discovered that the smaller rain garden was not properly draining into the overflow. I let Martin know and it was corrected the following day. He ended up re-positioning the overflow pipe to be the lowest point and I have had no further issues. I almost forgot to mention that I live in the Virginia Highlands where the lots are small and the streets are very congested. Martin did a good job of managing the materials and equipment onsite to minimize the impact to the neighbors.

Charles with Russtan Home & Garden was so professional and right on time, and very personable. This guy does excellent work!! I would recommend him to anyone who needs professional lawn care. I can't wait until it starts getting warmer to see the results of the work he is doing now that it is getting cold outside.

Heather and her crew are extremely knowledgeable about plants. They did an outstanding job cleaning up and arranging my elderly mother's home gardens, which had grown out of control. The crew works diligently and her pricing is very reasonable. My mother is very happy with the results.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to have landscaping done?

Professional landscaping can help reinvent your outdoor space, boost your curb appeal and get a major return on investment with. Landscaping can encompass anything from adding new plants, trees and shrubs, to leveling the ground and laying sod for a lawn, to building in hardscaping such as sidewalks, water features or retaining walls. The national average landscaping price is $10,160. Landscaping prices can be far lower (with hourly rates ranging from $50 to $150) if you’re only seeking professional help with softscaping or seeking consultation on landscape design. Softscaping means adding or changing horticultural elements, such as planting a garden or adding a hedge. Hardscaping is where costs can really start to rise. Hardscaping requires labor and heavy equipment to excavate the earth; you may need to pour concrete, or you may need a pro who can transport and place gravel and other inorganic elements. Your total landscaping cost will vary based on the amount of work you want done, how much labor is required, and the cost of the materials you are using. A good rule of thumb for a major landscaping project, according to the American Society of Landscape Architects, is to budget 5 percent to 10 percent of the value of your home.

How much does it cost to landscape your front yard?

Prices for landscaping your front yard can range from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands of dollars, depending on the scale of your front yard project. Your landscaping price will reflect how much change you implement, how much labor is required, and the cost of materials.

Landscaping is typically made up of softscaping and hardscaping. Softscaping refers to selecting trees, bushes, flowers and plants to achieve a desired aesthetic and to meet goals such as having a drought-tolerant yard. Hardscaping refers to moving earth, installing structures, and putting in decorative stonework, sidewalks or lighting. For softscaping, you may want to hire a landscape designer to consult on your plants and layout, and then do the digging and planting yourself or hire a gardner to handle the heavy lifting. A landscape designer’s hourly rate may range from $50 to $150 or more. If you want a turnkey approach, meaning someone who works with you to create the vision and then executes all the work, landscaping pricing will typically come down to a cost per square foot rather than an hourly rate. It’s a solid investment: Great landscaping can add up to 28 percent value to your home.
