Morgan was recommended to me by a very close friend. Yes, she happened to be his sister, lol, but I consider that recommendation to have been divinely inspired, seriously! I had a very specific idea of what i wanted and despite my rambling description, Morgan translated it into epitome of my mind's eye with an improvement in perspective. My first (hopefully) book has received a fantastic response from people often just because of my cover. I have recommended Morgan's services to quite a few people I know working on books.

This was my first attempt at writing a book. Sara made the experience of having my thoughts edited less stressful. Sara was a pleasure to work with. Her input was educational as well as thoughtful. I would definitely use her again for editing my next book.

As book publishers, we require all manuscripts to be professionally edited. If the author doesn't already have an editor, our first call is always to Stuart Blandford, whose work is exemplary. We have never had a dissatisfied author when it comes to Mr. Blandford's services. He is thorough, experienced and reasonably priced.

The quality, amount of time, and energy Shannon puts into her work is something that is very hard to find. If what she creates isn't along the lines of where you saw something going, she won't stop until your statisfied, even throwing in a flair of her own which really takes the design to the next level. She transformed our vision, into several book covers for our trilogy which gave us the edge we needed in a competitive industry.

Write One helped me with an editing/ghostwriting project as well as the publishing of my book. I found the experience to be invaluable and well worth the money. The owner said her aim was to educate new authors on the publishing process and that's exactly what she did. Now I'm preparing to release my book in the coming weeks and I'm so excited.

Charles help me with proofreading and editing my book of 380 pages. Charles was outstanding in correcting my grammar and punctuation mistakes. In addition, Charles took on the responsibility and give me feedback and suggestions how to improve the book. That information is helpful to what I wanted to accomplish. Thank you Charles Gerard for your expertise and knowledge in academics, I look forward to working with you again in the future.

I recently worked with Ingrid. She helped edit a novel I plan on publishing. When I first reached out to her, I got a quick response. That did not stop throughout the process. If I had questions, she responded quickly. Also, she kept me updated on where she was in the story. The editing was done way ahead of schedule, which leaves me plenty of time to review the notes. I have tried several editors and Ingrid has given me the best experience by far. I highly recommend her for your editing needs.

Being a professional photographer, I work with many people in the design field. After a decade of working with publishers, magazines, business, graphic design artist, website developers, etc; Denne is in my opinion the best graphic design artist I've ever met and worked with. One of my favorite things is watching her create a logo from scratch. She has a unique background in design that started before the computer was around. Her understanding for they history of typography and her natural talent for layout is a magical combination. You wont find anyone more talented and qualified with decades of industry experience than Denne. If you want your job done right, look no further. From the simplest job to a long term partner, Denne is ready for any project you may have for her.

Maryjane Stout did a preliminary editing of my novel, "Alien Mysteries: The Earthling." She not only checked for grammar and spelling in the book, but suggested ways to write some of the dialog and descriptions in a more engaging manner. Robert Kriete

Working with Kevin was an amazing experience. I hired him to design my book cover and was so thrilled with the results that I turned around and asked him to do the cover for my third book, which hasn't been finished yet! Any graphics designer can eventually give you what you want. The question is will it take four or five emails to make this happen or forty back and forth emails to make this happen? Kevin is reactive, energetic and intuitive. Once you've given him your vision and he'll make magic! Another thing I loved was the fact that I didn't have to ask him for progress reportsif I have to nag you for updates I won't use your services twice - it's that simple. So yes, I highly recommend this company. Get in touch with Kevin and you won't be disappointed.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

      • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
      • Strong writing skills.
      • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
      • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
      • Expertise in your target area.
      • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

      • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
      • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
      • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
      • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
