We hired Kaz as our wedding photographer, and he also included an engagement photo session with our package. I hope Thumbtack will allow me all the space I need in order to accurately describe our wonderful experience with Kaz! He was always professional, open to our ideas but could easily give suggestions to us as well, early to all of our meetings, ALWAYS calm (which is extremely important during the chaos of a wedding), and you can tell he loves what he does, which really makes a difference. He even put up with all of my husband’s bad jokes. I haven’t seen him with other clients, so I can’t say for sure what he’s like with others, but in this business, I am sure you run into ALL kinds of personalities, and he can adjust his communication style and approach based on each client. Just looking at his portfolio, you can see the wide variety of clients and events he’s had, and they’re all unique. Kaz was one of the first vendors we hired for our wedding, and with all of the meetings and communication we had in the months leading up to the big day, I can’t think of my wedding without associating it with him. We developed a real friendship and it was a joy to work with him, but he still kept his professionalism and delivered on all his promises. We met with Kaz on more than one occasion to do planning and scheduling, and he was gracious when I changed that schedule 87 times or sent him a dozen emails in rapid succession. Our engagement session was at a park in August in Georgia (very hot and sticky), but he wasn’t fazed. Our wedding was indoors in a building that was almost all glass, so the lighting was dependent on what the weather was like that day, and he adjusted well. His second photographer and assistant also did a phenomenal job. On the day of, he worked well with our other vendors, and adjusted easily when the schedule didn’t go according to plan. Another mark of a good photographer is that I barely even noticed he and his team was there, yet at the same time I never had to worry whether or not the photographer was getting the shots we wanted. We had a great wedding, and the feedback we’ve gotten from our guests were very positive in regards to the venue, my dress, the cake, the food, etc. But what I’ve probably gotten the most, and what has been most meaningful, are the comments from people when I showed them the photos Kaz took. He captured so many special moments that were likely difficult shots to get. He really is an “in the moment”, candid shot photographer. For those in my family who aren’t terribly photogenic (including me), who tend to look unnatural when posing for pictures, we were happy to find he had caught them during the ceremony and reception in natural smiles, laughing, having fun, and showing their natural beauty. I feel like all of the emotions of the day were captured in the photos, and they have been so meaningful to me and my family. Thank you, Kaz!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.
