Ed and his team provided exceptional service and catered delicious food for our wedding. We were a bit nervous about planning a destination wedding without a wedding planner but Ed's strong communication and accommodating attitude made it possible. The food was better then we expected and he was able to work with my dietary restrictions (gluten and dairy free). Not only did we use Kuoha Culinary for the food service but also for party rentals. The company Ed uses for party rentals were very professional and provided delivery, set up, break down, and pick up services of all our rentals. The tents, tables, chairs, dancefloor etc were all in good condition. If I were to recommend a company for wedding catering, it would be Kuoha Culinary hands down!

We booked Chef Kimo to cater for our wedding in Ka'a'awa, Oahu in July, 2014. During the planning stages he met with us in person and also corresponded by e-mail and FaceTime. His friendly nature put us at ease and we were pleased to work with him because of his extensive knowledge of the island and of organising weddings there. Kimo worked within our budget and did his best to achieve everything we were looking for on our special day. He is not only a caterer but can also organise everything wedding related. He custom made the menu to our specifications, recommended an amazing cake maker and organised table decorations which fitted perfectly with our colour scheme. Although there were a few minor problems due to some of his staff letting him down at the last minute, Kimo was still able to produce a tasty and varied wedding meal for us which all our guests thoroughly enjoyed. We highly recommend him and his company.

I am aware that Hanai Events often handles large events with big budgets but they were more than happy to handle my and my wife's desire for a very simple wedding ceremony on a tight budget. Jeremy Neal was a charming and warm officiant. All in all, we were very satisfied.

I cannot say enough great things about Chef Pedro, the food was outstanding, they were so accommodating, very friendly and professional. The coordinator leading up to our event was so helpful and kind and the staff the day of was wonderful, warm and professional. Everyone was raving about the food! We were on a budget, but really good in-season food was important to us and Chef Pedro made that happen for us at a reasonable rate. The day of the event there was a glitch with the tables/chairs, and without missing a beat Chef Pedro’s stepped in to help resolve that issue without ever worrying us. While one might consider a caterer/Chef to only deal with food, they had their hand in nearly all aspects of the day and worked in perfect harmony with the venue care taker. They just have an ALL STAR staff combine with ALL STAR food. Everything was just wonderful. I would highly recommend them!

I cannot emphasize enough how wonderful Tropical Moon Events was at our wedding. All of the cocktails were such huge hits that they were all everyone wanted to drink--even those who usually only drank wine or beer! Most notably, the Passion Mai Tais and Lychee Mint Spritzers were everyone's favorite. I thought that the Cucumber Basil Gin & Tonic was very refreshing. The bartenders were so wonderful and fun, and kept up a great pace for all of the thirsty guests. The party would not have been the same without Tropical Moon Events there to liven it up!

I was in charge of planning my work place Xmas Lunch and contacted Ruby Tuesday Hawaii Catering as I was most impressed with the healthy choices offered especially the complete Garden Salad Bar (which turned out to be a hit with all of my co-workers). Steven Syas was the go-to contact person and was very professional and helpful in my event planning. He guided me with menu options and appropriate food portions for my event, and also accommodated special dietary needs for the vegetarians and gluten free restrictions needed. On the day of the event, I was contacted by Mr. Syas in advance of his arrival to my event. He was early, the hot food kept warm in a portable warmer, and the cold food kept cold on ice. Mr. Syas set up the Garden Salad Bar with a magnificent presentation as well as the beef and turkey sliders on trays. My co-workers were so impressed and we have never had such a work event as this. The food was fantastic and my event a huge success. Thank you Ruby Tuesday Hawaii Catering and Mr. Syas for being a part of our special Xmas Lunch. Wishing you all the success in 2017 and look forward to our next event with you. I will highly recommend Ruby Tuesday Hawaii Catering to my co-workers, friends and especially my family for their catering needs.

How much does it cost to hire a caterer?

Catering prices depend mainly on how fancy you want the food and service to be and how many guests you’ll have. When you’re first looking to hire a caterer for your event, consider how many guests you’ll have and your total food and drink budget. The national average for event catering is $340, but catering prices can range into the thousands depending on your menu, guest count, and service.

Event catering is a broad term that covers everything from fully prepared, ready-to-eat food that the hosts plate and serve themselves to full-service, multicourse meals, including rental of linens, glassware and other items, with service staff organized by the catering company. Usually a caterer will determine cost based on the type of event you’re having, how many guests will attend, the level of service you desire, and what type of menu you’d like to have. For example, if you have a set catering budget, say $1,500, and you plan to have 50 people attend, that means you have $30 per person for food. If you have the same budget with 100 people, you have $15 per person for food. In this way, the number of people you want to attend your event and the level of food you want to serve them determines how much catering will cost.

How much should catering cost per person?

Catering prices can range from about $10 per guest on the low end to $150 or more per person on the high end. Catering costs represent the quality of food, presentation, variety, ingredients and service. But catering prices are more than the cost to cook the food that will be at your party; they also include the cost for the company to do business. Here is a simple breakdown of catering prices:

  • Menu: The food you serve your guests will directly affect the price per person. Organic ingredients, complex recipes, elaborate presentations, or high-ticket items like lobster or filet mignon all add to the cost.
  • Service: Buffet, family style, plated dinners — how you serve the food affects the cost per person. For example, a true plated meal can cost about twice the price of a staff-assisted buffet because of staffing costs. Hiring waiters, bartenders and cleanup crew will all be calculated into the per-person catering price.
  • Drinks: Providing beverages and alcoholic drinks for guests greatly increases your catering budget. Hosting an open bar can cost as much per person as the meal.
  • Rentals: Seating, plates, glassware, etc., will all have an effect on the cost per person for catering. For example, a plastic conference table that seats 10 costs about $6 to rent on average, while a wooden farmhouse table is about $80 to rent on average.
  • Business costs: Any catering cost will also include the cost for the company to do business such as insurance, employee wages, commercial kitchen space and more.
