We were in need of having three trees removed from our front yard and contacted JC Lawncare. One of the owners of JC Lawncare, Jose, came out to the property to assess the job and quickly provided us with an estimate. Not only is JC Lawncare very affordable, they also have a quick turnaround time. All three trees were removed in four hours and the yard was cleaned up exactly how we left it. We are incredibly happy with the service and would highly recommend them if you're in need of tree removal or any type of landscaping!

Juan help me with a small job: removing a small tree, a large barberry bush, and trimming a boxwood. Juan came out ahead of time, gave me a fair estimate, and made sure I was satisfied with the job when it was done. I really appreciated Juan's time and his willingness to explain the growth patterns of boxwood bushes! I would hire him again in a heartbeat.

Everyting was done perfectly! I have used services in the past but Whitetail Landscape did a superb job! From the first meeting to discuss what needs to be done and to wrapping it up on going over what was completed. You definitely have to give this company a call if you want your lawn and leaf removal service done right.

Alvarado tree service is reliable and gave a very fair price for a job well done. Noticed that they left our lawn in good condition- they cleaned up the work area well after themselves by filling the hole after cutting down our 15 foot pine tree and removal of the stump from the ground. If we need future tree removal service done we will most likely ask for his business again. Very satisfied with their work.

We were very impressed with how many 5 star ratings PTL Landscaping has on Thumbtack! That is why we asked PTL Landscaping to give us a quote. We were so pleased with their work that we requested additional quotes other projects. We are confident you will agree with all of the other 5 star ratings if you end up working with PTL Landscaping. We had the following done: (1) installation of 1 drainage pipe from the sump pump and gutters underground to the back of the yard and 2 drainage pipes underground in the front of the yard – basically moving the water away from our house, (2) planting grass/sod, (3) removal of old cement fence posts, (4) removal of vine covering, weeds and older bushes, (4) design and installation of landscaping yard lights and (5) designing and planting our front yard landscaping. Paul (owner) and his team are very professional, courteous, and do a great job. PTL Landscaping has come through with all of our requests. Their pricing is fair and they will give you alternative options (ie different options on bushes) to stay within price points. We have and will continue to recommend Paul to our neighbors, friends and family. I would definitely contact PTL Landscaping for a quote if you are doing a landscaping/yard project of any size. You will find Paul (owner) to be a great guy and someone that you will want to continue to hire for your landscaping needs!

Metallo Tree and Stump Removal took down approximately 25 trees for us. Kurt was very professional and his work was impeccable. In fact, several people commented how clean the property looked with no limbs, twigs, etc leftover from his work. I highly recommend Kurt Metallo for any tree job!

Juan cut down or tree and removed the stump. He was great! While he was there, we discussed some other landscaping issues and ended up hiring him to do some more things. He had some good ideas that helped us and did a great job for us at a reasonable price. Will definitely use him again if the need arises.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.
