Roberto was on time, very courteous, and was completely prepared for the job! He made my water-damaged window sills and trim look brand new! He also did an amazing job on some cracked drywall and peeling drywall tape on my ceiling. I plan on hiring Roberto again for some other painting and dry wall projects in the near future. Thank you, Roberto! Fantastic work!

Stayed home from work as I expected him. Calls me 30 mins to an hour before expected arrival and says he can’t come until next week. Need this to be done ASAP and now have to start all over with new contractors. Not happy primarily because I stayed home from work to accommodate his arrival.

We wish that we found Chwalek construction earlier! We had the house painted with another contractor, it was not a pleasant experience, had to terminate the contract, then we found Chwalek. I told Jacob that we really needed someone to start immediately. From the 1st communication till the work done, it only took less than a week. Amazing! Not only Chwalek construction is extremely efficient, but also their professionalism, punctuality and work quality are very impressive. We are pleased to have them complete the projects. Will definitely use them in the future and highly recommend them.

Eric and team recently helped address some water intrusion issues as well as stair and wall repair at our condo building. He and his team were very responsive and professional. They took the additional time to look at other issues we asked them about. I really appreciated the updates on the work and everything looked great in the end. We will definitely use them in the future for further building maintenance work.

Someone had damaged a double-brick wall that separates my property from city property. About 75 bricks and 2 cap stones were broken or displaced. This was not a big job, as jobs go. Crown Roofing & Masonry Co. responded very quickly to my query. The broken section of the wall was taken down. About 40 bricks and 2 large stones were cleaned and reused, which helped keep the price down. The job was completed in one day. Clean up was very good and all trash was removed. If you need masonry work give Crown Roofing & Masonry Co. a chance. C. B. - Chicago

James was great! He was the first to respond to me with a quote and he came out the next day to complete our job. We had him remove a wall and do some electrical work. Very knowledgeable and helped us save money where we could. We definitely recommend his services.

I renovated my kitchen with Krassimir. I did the demo myself as well as new tile flooring. Krassimir installed all of the Ikea cabinets. First I should say that my condo used to be a very old apartment building - pretty typical masonry 100 year old chicago 6 flat. None of the walls are really flat, or square. I did a decent job of getting the floor level, but there are still some high/low points. Krassimir did an excellent job of getting the cabinets level, which is important for the countertop installation. He's a good carpenter and was able to "modify" the installation process in order to accomplish this. For example, using tapered 2x4's to fill in gaps, tapering off cover panels, providing ledgers where needed for the countertops. He worked with one other person and they took 5 days to finish. If the walls weren't so non-90 degrees an unlevel I think he would've finished in 2 days. Krassimir was very kind and pleasant to work with. Everyday they cleaned up after themselves. Also, since I work every day I was unable to be present during the construction. It's always difficult leaving your home unattended while contractors are there doing work, however Krassimir is a very trustworthy individual and once I met him the first day I didn't have any worries. Krassimir does more than just ikea kitchens/baths, but as far as Ikea products go he is very knowledgable of the ins and outs of their kitchen lines. As far as price goes - his price was well under the Ikea certified installer's price. I highly recommend Krassimir.

I strongly recommend Nowicki Construction to Thumbtack readers. Fred and Matt are top notch, low key, flexible and cost effective. Background: I bought my first brick home in mid-2015. I soon discovered that many bricks had spalled within the last two years. The local brick yard referred me to a contractor who gave me an estimate for replacing about 100 bricks. But in early October, he stopped responding, and I could not schedule the work. So, I joined Angie’s List and quickly found several good reviews of Nowicki Construction. I contacted Fred, and he came right away to estimate the job. Identifying the real problem: Very quickly, Fred determined that the spalling was just a symptom of an underlying issue with drainage and ground moisture, isolated to an addition built with less robust brick. He pointed out that a sidewalk against the north wall sloped just a bit toward the addition, and directed water to the brick. He observed that, overall, everywhere in the addition that I had a water problem, I had spalling. Solution: Fred suggested that before replacing any bricks, we address the water problems. I broke up the sidewalk and excavated along the perimeter of the addition. Then Fred and Matt pressure-washed the exposed foundation, and applied a moisture barrier. They parge-coated a few courses of badly damaged brick at the soil line where the sidewalk had been. I back-filled with 7 tons of pea gravel. Throughout, Fred and Matt scheduled their work to accommodate mine. Outcome: I was relieved to have solved the underlying problem before winter weather set in. I was able to add some sweat equity to keep cash costs down. I’ve seen no more evidence of spalling for two winters now. I hope to schedule Fred and Matt again to replace the remaining 50 spalled bricks, but that’s cosmetic. In the end, my total cash cost may be close to my original contractor’s estimate.

We had a first floor remodel. We had new cabinets, countertop, and a backsplash put in. We had can lights put in in the kitchen and family room. We mounted the tv on the wall and had a storage unit built, We had 3 rooms and 2 hallways painted. We also had 5 light fixtures replaced and a magnetic wall created in our boys' room. The work took 17 days. We are very pleased with the work. To begin with, their detailed quote for our job was very reassuring and a big part of why we hired them. We felt we knew exactly what we would be paying for and that there would be no hidden charges. B & R helped design the storage unit based on my ideas and pictures and then built it. It is beautiful and exactly what I wanted. The glass mosiac backsplash is quite exquisite. It took a whole day to install but it was done with great precision. There were a few choices I had made that I didn't like once I saw them but the team was willing to redo a few things so they were more to my liking. Also, I like that B&R handled hiring and overseeing additional contractors (plumber & electrician) who were needed for my job. I was also very impressed that B&R worked on some aspects of my project on the weekends (their own time) to ensure my project would be completed in the quickest time. There were also a few minor projects that I added after the initial contract that B&R were happy to include in their work. The service professionals were on time and worked hard each day. I would highly recommend B&R construction for any remodeling project. We will be hiring them again to do our upstairs bathroom remodels in the future.
