After having a negative experience with a previous trainer, I was nervous about hiring a second one. Right from the moment Scott walked in, he was calm and handled my rowdy and strong German Shepherd well. Before our walks were always nerve racking and made me not look forward to going. However, Scott showed me how to use the proper collars and techniques to keep me and my dog calm and happy. Seeing so much improvement on our walks and I now look forward to going on them! He is easy to reach and so informative that I definitely recommend you call him first.

Scott was amazing with my German shepherd puppy. He came over for a consultation and was able to do our first session immediately. He was over for 2 hours and we saw so many changes in our pup. He answered all of our questions and was very thorough with his instructions to us to better train her. He let us do the exercises and talked us through what we needed to work on. He also went through all treats toys and food to make sure our pup had healthy food and treats and good toys. I would recommend Scott in a heartbeat!!!

My wife and I adopted Boomer a Border collie / Pit Bull mix 18 months ago when he was 10 months old. He is a great dog with a lot of energy. Boomer is fantastic with children and plays gently with our three grandsons ages, 20 months, 4 years and 7 years old, and any other children. Boomer just loves people in general. His only issue is leash aggression. I took Boomer to obedience classes just after we adopted him. He did not get along well with other dogs and I was told that we should consider getting rid of him. I saw the potential in Boomer with his gentleness with children so getting rid of him was not an option. I talked with three other trainers since then and one mentioned that I need a behaviorist to help with the aggression and not necessarily an obedience trainer. So my wife and I looked on the internet and we found Smart Dogs. Ian from Smart Dogs came out to our home, performed an evaluation and we began working immediately. I have followed Ian’s advice and the transformation is unbelievable. Boomer walks extremely well on the leash always a foot or two behind me. His aggression has calmed down considerably and gets better every time. I now look forward to a relaxing walk and no longer fear the presence of another dog. Boomer was also fence reactive with our neighbor’s German Shepard. I learned that Boomer is no longer reacting to her dog so I should be able to take down my temporary fence soon. But the real payoff came yesterday. Our grandsons were visiting and one of them opened the service door to the garage. During the excitement with the door open and kids running out, Boomer decided to charge into the garage and run through the open overhead door. He ran into the street, I started to panic but then I called his name and told him to come. He immediately stopped, turned around and came back to me and sat at my feet. Needless to say I was totally amazed, and relieved. I have never put Boomer to the test like that before. I cannot say enough about the help that we have received from Smart Dogs. In the past eight weeks, Boomer has become a better dog and my wife and I have become better dog owners. The stress of walking a reactive dog is nonexistent and we are confident the walks will be enjoyable. Regards: Brian Murphy

The best trainers ever!! Our 11 months old puppy spent 12 days in their house and came back to us with new spirits, skills, and manners. He just got back there again a week ago for 6 more days to learn to be a therapy dog. He's a good puppy to begin with but now he's so great that we are so proud of him. We are so grateful that Kristy and Ian take care our puppy Rupert with so much love. Rupert doesn't pull anymore when we walk, also he would sit still and stay until I say ok. He would sit and wait for his bowl of food until I put it down on his table and say ok. And if we say no, Rupert knows that we really mean no. We enjoy walking and bike ride now. Tired dog is a good dog, he is more calm now and no more of that figure 8 running in the house. We would recommend smart dogs training and lodging to everyone, they are the best and know what they are talking about! And they really treat the dogs like they were their own, so much care and love. We will definitely bring Rupert to them again to get his doctorate degree, he has his bachelor and master now :)

Smart Dogs came to our rescue when we rescued Baron, our 1 ½ year old German Shepard. Baron was very stubborn, and reluctant to our methods of training. We had tried other dog trainers with no luck and contemplated the possibility of sending him back to the foster family. That is when we came across Smart Dogs and they have forever changed our lives along with Baron’s. He spent two weeks with Ian and Kristy at their home, where they trained him daily and gave him unconditional love. He is now home with us where we enjoy seeing the progress he continues to make and being part of our family. We can’t thank Ian and Kristy enough. Bill and Leslie

Very professional and very effective for my 5 months old German Shepard puppy. I liked the idea that my dog was staying at trainers house, still interacting with people after hours of training , instead of being left in kennel for hours. Aneta Oblazny

We really love the in home setting used for training. Everything is done in a trainers home and the dogs are supervised 24hours a day. The trainers, and employees of Your Best Friends Dog House are great. They are very attentive to the human clients needs as well as the dogs and other animals. We were introduced to YBFDH about 3 years ago, we had an 8 year old Irish wolf hound and he was starting to act iffy. He would growl at the kids and was beginning to become aggressive to strangers. Our neighbor had used YBFDH for dog walking, and pet sitting so they mentioned to me they also offer dog training. We sent our old boy to learn some new things, and he came back without any of the negative behaviors he had previously shown. We now have a 1 year old Great Dane and he did his puppy and basic training at YBFDH. They do a great job!

We sent our dog Trapper for training with Diana. He is an 8 month old German Shepard. We sent him for basic puppy training and he is doing very well now that he is home. We wanted a program that was more personal and one on one, as we have heard horror stories about boarding kennels. It was great to know he would be in a loving home with other dogs rather than a scary leaky basement kennel area. Also the trainer kept in contact daily with updates and tips to caring for him once he was home. All in all our experience was great! We highly recommend YBFDH!

We picked up our German Shepard about a week ago from YBFDH. He was showing some food aggression and becoming possessive of his toys. He went for the two week board and train program, and when he came back the issues were gone. The trainer was great at keeping in contact with us over the two weeks, she sent multiple emails each day and was always available for any questions. I would highly recommend this company to any one needing behavior modification!

We came to Sunset Training Center on a recommendation from another owner of one of their puppies. After a month long "boot camp" at another training facility our dog was returned under weight and fear aggressive. Claudia was able to correct his behavior issues and get weight back on him in a few training sessions. He is now a totally different dog and we believe that Claudia saved our dog's life. Her knowledge of the health and wellness of canines has been nothing short of amazing. We have since purchased a female shepherd from Claudia and could not be more thrilled with our new family addition. Our 2 year old female has been training with Claudia since she was 12 weeks old. Today she has the perfect temperament to provide companionship and protection in any environment.

Sunset and Claudia are seriously the best!!! Anyone would be hard pressed to find better bred German Shepards within the five local states. As a trainer, she is able to facilitate the rapid advancement of all dogs: not just her exceptionally well-bred dogs. I am a combat veteran and was deployed in some dangerous places... I really never had an idea what a well-trained dog was actually capable of, and would have chosen my standard issue weapon first. Today, I would take the dogs trained from Sunset first, and they are the way more lovable and family friendly than the former too! My 4 year old daughter has a best friend that will keep her safe whether I was there or not. I would trust my daughter to safely play ANYWHERE with her puppy Jack around!

Amazing experience so far! The trainer is the best. My dogs have been "trained" by other trainers - it was very negative and unsuccessful. I'm so thankful I found Sunset- very positive and extremely effective.

Leslie put me at ease the moment she walked through my front door! She is so easy to talk to about any issues concerning my dog and takes the time and care to personalize training to that dogs needs. Her training method allows for the puppy parent to both see Leslie herself do it and then for me to do it myself, since us humans needs training too! It's very crucial that the puppy parents takes and use her guidance as it will pay off immensely! My puppy, Rhett, was constantly love biting for attention and bothering us during non play time, like dinner. Thanks to her training (me and Rhett that is, lol), he is not nipping and knows when we go to eat, it's not play time. He's also much improved with greetings, has better focus, and is well in his way to be an excellent Canine Citizen! We love, Leslie! 2 paws up! !

Are experience was truly amazing! We have a 1 year old German Shepard mix that is high energy and within the first half hour Dee had her understanding commands like sit, bed, lie down and stay. She also showed us how to get her to stop jumping and nipping. Not only was the training great and effective but her recommendations for items to help walking and keeping her busy while we are not home were as well. We also really liked that she is very passionate at helping dogs and and their owners and that was very evident because she works with you during first appointment and then if you need any extra help you can text, call or email her! I would highly recommend this dog trainer!!

Nicole at Great Pet Vacations was a Godsend to our family. Our 14 month old yorkie poo was disobedient and had awful manners. We did not have the skills to change the situation. In June, we did 9 days of board and train with Nicole and we all were amazed at the initial results. Cocoa immediately was more reliable with potty training, would not cry in her cage and did not attempt to escape her pen. In July, she went back for the additional 12 days of the board and train program and can now sit, lay, target, walk on a leash, leave an item alone and is a calmer more obedient dog. Nicole is a miracle worker and takes her time demonstrating how to continue working on reinforcing the behavior with the owners to ensure continued success at home. She spent more than an hour with us at the intake consultation in order to understand our training goals. In addition, she spent more than 2 hours upon exit. It is clear she loves the animals she cares for, treats boarded dogs as her own, and is a superb dog trainer. This experience was every thing I hoped for and more than I expected. We plan to continue training sessions with Nicole and give her our highest recommendation to others.

I was really nervous when I set out to find a dog trainer for my German Shepherd, but all that was put to ease when Nicole came by for a meet and greet with my dog. She explained to me all of her training methods and answered any questions I had. She was very easy to talk to about any problems I had concerning my dog. And after three weeks of her board and train program, I am wowed! Her results are outstanding. My dog now gives me her full attention, is much more calm, and no longer pulls while walking. I kniw these

I had been contemplating additional obedience training for my very energetic seven year-old German Shorthair/English Pointer mix, Watson, when I discovered Tony Gordon of Woodlawn Canine Academy while at the Arlington Park Pet Expo in March 2015...and I knew that I had found the right trainer! I watched Tony doing informal mini demonstrations with his dog, Echo. I also spoke with Connie about dog training and the programs offered by Woodlawn. I am very happy that Watson and I signed up for the private training at my home! As part of the training Watson and I have begun to attend the group sessions as well. Not only is Watson being trained, but I am also learning how to handle my dog (yes, I am also being trained!), which is an important and integral part of the whole training process. Training, which involves both corrections and positive reinforcement, is a commitment and ongoing for us between scheduled sessions with Tony. Watson no longer pulls on his leash during walks and that is only one of his accomplishments. I am just completely amazed with some of the other things that Watson does or does not do since we began training! I just gotta say that Tony is a caring and dedicated trainer! I am one happy Woodlawn Canine Academy client! :D

Woodlawn canine academy is a wonderful dog training facility. Tony is an amazing trainer. He not only traines your dog he also traines the owner to be the best handler they can be. He customized my training sessions to be exactly what's right for me and Logan ( my malinois). Logan has grown and matured so much since working with tony sometimes I can't believe how for we have come with his obedience in such a short time. I was so impressed and happy with the obedience package I purchased that I went on and signed up for the protection package with tony. I have had so many countless compliments on how well behaved my dog is from family and strangers on hikes. My cousin recently began working with tony because he saw how Logan has changed over time. Connie and tony make a wonderful team. They work together to give their clients the best experience possible. I very highly recommend this company for any and all of a persons dog needs.

I looked for a trainer for a year before I found Woodlawn Canine Academy. I'm so glad I found them! I love that they come to the house and then as my dog improved he got to participate in the group classes. It was also great that I was getting an experienced trainer with such a great resume. Tony has been training for many years and it shows. His positive approach and willingness to work around my schedule and needs made a huge difference in the success we had in training. I've been through the retail training and had even had two other private trainers for a while. I learned quickly that finding the cheapest trainer isn't going to get me the best results. You get what you pay for and Woodlawn Canine is worth every penny! My husband, me and my kids and our Lilly would recommend them to anyone!

I have used Lisa to walk my dogs during the past few months. They are so tired after their walks, it's fantastic. She has been a god send. Also an added bonus the dogs are much more polite on their walks and no longer pull. Lisa is a trainer as well so she's taught my girls some great manners.

Owner/Trainer, Kevin Stangler, of Mannered Mutts Dog Training has such a wonderfully infectious passion for sharing his craft of communicating with dogs. His explanations and demonstrations are very clear and professional. Kevin is ready to answer any and all questions throughout the process. I've never felt rushed or that I was doing something incorrectly during a lesson. Kevin always has a positive approach toward guiding me and my 4 mo. old German Shepherd puppy. Many of the "puppy issues" I had concern about (jumping on people, stealing items from other dogs' mouths, heeling, recall, and bolting to play with other dogs) have been addressed during lessons with Kevin. The results after three lessons are fantastic. Puppy obedience progress now includes recall off leash, stays off people, won't try to bolt and play across the street, doesn't steal from other dogs (puppy is understanding boundaries), and heeling is improving with daily exercises. Kevin's goal to help me and my pup work and play as one unit has strengthened our human/canine bond. Kevin always helps us feel comfortable and confident in our learning and success toward dog obedience, safety and companionship. Because I live a 3 hr drive away, Kevin even does video sessions with me. Thanks, Mannered Mutts! -Rob E.

We contacted Kevin with a specific straining need for our 7 year old Golden who we needed to get accustomed to a crate for traveling in the pet cargo area of out airplane. He picked up our dog at 2:00PM with the crate and at 6:00 pm the same day sent pictures of him eating in his crate. He had him for 2 days and had him completely acclimated. He then spent 2 hours with us showing us how to reinforce his training. Kevin is personable, energetic and clearly has a way with dogs.

As a matter of fact, she loves giving kisses to anyone who gives her belly a good scratchin'. :)

We met Rich back in January when we had enough with Ollie's first obedience trainer who said that Ollie needed to be muzzled at all times and she would never be able to go inside of a pet store. I was tired of coming home from that class in tears every week so with 2 classes left to go there I pulled her out and my husband called around looking for a trainer that would be willing to help us. He found Rich and after he talked to him he told me that I should call him too. After talking to him for about 15 minutes we decided to have him come to our house for help. Ollie is a husky we adopted through a rescue that had a really bad start at her young life. She had puppies when she was about 8 months old and was not good with other people or dogs. After the home session we went through Rich for private obedience lessons and she passed and everything was done without a muzzle. We are now happy to say that Ollie can go into the pet stores and is getting better with other people and getting less reactive around other dogs but is still not able to get too close to the other dogs so we will be working with Rich again to get her moving forward with her training. Rich was polite, listened to our concerns and questions and was patient with Ollie and us. Thank you Rich!!!!!!

My experience could not have been better. My German Shepherd, Simon, was in serious need of obedience training, and Rich was wonderful. I loved the fact that he believes in positive reinforcement rather than any sort of inappropriate training that would involve hitting, spanking, choking, etc. After the first training session I noticed a huge improvement and Rich gave me great homework tips to continue working on in between training sessions. We've had several sessions and I feel like I have a different dog. He is so sweet and well behaved, I cannot express enough gratitude to Rich. He was so much more knowledgeable than other trainers I have known and worked with over the years. I will be telling anyone I know who needs dog training to contact Rich at Best In Home!
