Our daughter (Kivi) started with the recorder in 4th grade, and soon graduated to clarinet. By Middle School, she was taking lessons from a classical teacher who advanced her skills markedly. Upon reaching high school, she was in demand by the jazz band - whose leader persuaded her to take up the saxophone. Kivi loved the sax, and loved jazz, but clarinet remained her first instrument. I thought of the great jazz clarinet players: Pete Fountain at the top of a substantial list. But we could find no one who could teach jazz clarinet. Finally, we attended an event at VanderCook, and one of the presenters gave us Jon's name. Kivi studied with Jon for about two years. I was disappointed with the amount of time Kivi had to spend practicing Jon's lessons - what high schooler has time for anything? Nevertheless, Kivi learned a great deal from Jon, and was the only student to ever perform a clarinet solo in our high school's jazz band history ("Jack the Bear"). Jon was unique in my experience in that he taught what Kivi wanted to learn - rather than imposing a rigid course of instruction. If you are considering private lessons that offer something both valuable and unique, please look no further than Jon Novi.

About

Jesus Garcia, has been teaching piano to our 6 year old for nearly a year now. He is very friendly and makes lessons fun for the kids! My child looks forward to her weekly piano lessons and practices after class to impress the teacher. He is very attentive to details and accommodates parents requirements too. He is also extremely patient with the kids and guides them through hard lessons. My kid enjoy's it so much that her younger sibling wants to join the class as well :) !

I have just hired Matt Peterson through Thumbtack to provide a series of piano lessons as a Christmas present to my wife. Thumbtack worked out exceedingly well in securing an exceptional local professional who meets my immediate needs. This was all accomplished in two days and Mr. Peterson has even created an artistic certificate with a holiday theme to present to my wife Christmas Day. Thanks Thumbtack!!! You've made my Christmas very special with your courteous and efficient service!!!! -Jack Bajor

About

Ludka has been a valuable piano teacher to both my 6 and 8 year old sons the time we live in Hinsdale. My sons were somewhat reluctant at first to learn piano, since the discipline required to learn music was new to them. Ludka was very patient, while at the same time providing both the structure and encouragement they needed to advance. Her warmth and innate ability to connect with kids have made piano lessons a joy for my sons, and after about 8 months they were looking forward to playing in a recital! She makes learning and playing music a joy for kids and adults and I would recommend her to someone at any level of musical experience or ability.

Ms. David gave piano lessons to my two boys when they were in grade school. We owe a lot to her as she discovered my sons' talent for music and inspired them to continue pursuing music even as young adults.

About

I was referred to Mr. Cambry by a coworker whose son has been and currently receiving piano lessons by Mr. Cambry. My son has been seeing Mr. Cambry for piano lessons for the past 2 years. Mr. Cambry is an awesome piano teacher; very genuine and caring. My son thoroughly enjoys his lessons. As a parent, I really appreciate Mr. Cambry's display of great patience with positive feedback and encouragement during and after my son's lessons as necessary. Prior to Mr. Cambry's instruction, Jayden started off his piano lessons with another instructor. Although, I felt she was great, I later felt that Jayden wasn't reaching his potential and that he appeared kinda bored. Since under Mr. Cambry's tuteledge, Jayden's enthusiasm and skill level has greatly improved. Thank you Mr. Cambry!

About

At first, I was skeptical. The last time I had a piano lesson was more than 30 years ago from a little old lady in a small town. But, in very short time, Clarke proved he was much more than just a competent piano player. He is also a great teacher. Clarke was able to instill confidence in my playing even though I'm starting all over again. I'm very glad I gave him the opportunity as a piano teacher. Once I'm proficient in the lessons he gave me, I will go back!

As an older student, I am quite impressed with Jeff's exceptional knowledge of music theory and ability to practically apply it to the guitar, piano, organ and singing. But what I find most impressive is his incredible patience and tolerance for this older student. I have recently received much positive feedback from different people in my community regarding my increased musical ability and although I did the work to make the progress possible, Jeff gave me the instructions and practice materials in a way that helped me use what little available time I have in the most efficient manner. Jeff Hardy is, indeed, a professional musician and teacher. I highly recommend him.

About

Andria is an amazing teacher! I know this first hand because I started taking piano lessons under her teaching when I was 10yrs old till i was 19. I've been able to enjoy sitting down and playing music since. I was interested in my daughter taking lessons and was once again in contact with Andria...best decision we've made. Her expertise not only in all instruments but with instruction and teaching young children so well only comes with 30+ years of experience. Sitting in during lessons and playing duets with my daughter during daily practice have brought music & joy into our home. She's very encouraging & brings out the best in each of her students.

I really enjoyed working with Peter. As someone who came in with classical training but also a natural ear, I felt very affirmed by the balanced way in which way Peter could assess my weaknesses while bringing out and building upon the skills I'd developed prior to working with him. I also enjoyed the way he would bring a discussion of the artists whose work we were playing into the lessons as well as an integral part of understanding how to play the music. As someone who hopes to continue my studies and potentially perform someday as a vocalist, I found this to be essential.

I've been looking for a good piano teacher for a few months now, and I've met with a few others before, but was disappointed with the lack of feedback I received from them. Tad, on the other hand, was able to breakdown my technique and give me feedback within the very first lesson. I've been playing piano for a couple years before starting lessons. Within the first 20 minutes of the first lesson with Tad, he was already able to identify areas of my technique that needed work, and then subscribe and walk me through exercises to work on it. The other teachers I've tried basically spent the whole first sessions testing my music reading, brushed off my questions about scales and exercises for technique as "stuff I don't need to worry about yet", and then sent me home with a repertoire piece to work on and very little guidance. To be fair, I expect it is very difficult to assess a student and give them useful feedback within the first few sessions. But Tad was able to, so that probably goes to show how much experience he must have. Also, he organizes and hosts student recitals. No one else is doing that.

Sally has been a great piano teacher for our 9-year-old daughter. She has kept things interesting and encouraged her to keep taking lessons. We also appreciate the piano recitals Sally organizes. They are personable and a perfect size. Sally is also flexible with setting lesson times and works with us when there are scheduling conflicts.

We've recently met Li-Ying and after a lengthy interview decided to hire her to teach two of our children. She has already given us much reason to feel very happy about our choice. Li-Ying is very thorough in her teaching methodology and adapts her instruction quite easily to the age of her students. Our boys (7 and 5) have both reacted very well and seem quite enthusiastic about learning the piano with Li-Ying. Her attentive and comfortable style, together with her own rigorous training are a great combination. We recommend her wholeheartedly. -- Liana P.

Her passion for piano gets manifested through teaching, motivating, innovating, leading and many more great attributes Maria (Licho) has to offer to her students. They learn because she's easy to learn from; extremely patient and knowledgeable about her lessons. My daughter loves her and has learn so much this past year. Thank you for your ways of teaching!
