What happens if you don't tune a piano?

Tunings can help prevent damage and maintain your piano. When you tune your piano, you’re correcting its pitch. So if you go too long without tuning your piano, the pitch will likely drop — which can add tension to your piano’s structure, according to the Piano Technicians Guild.

Is piano tuning hard?

Tuning a piano can be difficult if you haven’t done it before and don’t have the correct tools. For example, you’ll need a piano tuning lever, tips, electronic chromatic tuner and mutes. If you don’t have the tools or experience, you might be better off hiring a professional to tune your piano.

How long does piano tuning take?

Tuning your piano might take a few hours or less. Before your appointment, ask your piano tuner how long the process will take.

Is it worth tuning an old piano?

It may be worth tuning your old piano, especially if it’s highly valued or has sentimental value. Bring your piano to an expert piano tuner. They can assess your instrument and help you determine if it can be restored.

Can a piano be too old to tune?

Many old pianos can be tuned. Consult a professional piano tuner to find out if they can tune your piano.

Why do my piano keys squeak?

If your piano keys are squeaking, it may be because something is stuck between the keys. Or, your piano may be dirty. You may be able to fix your keys. If not, hire a professional to take a look at the problem and perform the repairs.

Can a piano be tuned after 20 years?

If you haven’t tuned your piano in 20 years, you can still bring it to a tuner for them to assess and perform a pitch raise.

How often should you tune a piano?

Some experts recommend tuning your piano at least two or four times a year, according to the Piano Technicians Guild. You should always see what the manufacturer recommends for your specific piano. And you should schedule additional tunings as needed.

Jin came to my home to tune a piano I found in the ally. It was octaves out of tune. He explained how piano tuning worked and that a piano which had not been tuned in a while may loose its tuning. After he tuned it, it sounded wonderful. I was really enjoying playing it. However, a few weeks later - as expected - some of the notes had settled out of tune. Jon was available again, only charged me for the time it took to get it singing again. I would recommend Jon for anyone who wants a punctual, professional, and up front piano tuner. I would give 10 stars if I could.

Dennis arranged to come at short notice. He was cheerful, professional, punctual and very effective! My old rebuilt piano hasn't sound this great in years! At my request, and at no additional charge, he even tuned it to A=432, a subtle difference from A=440, which is becoming widely recognized as a more harmonious overall sound and vibration. You may want to google it. I highly recommend it! And I most definitely recommend the talent of Dennis as your exceptional and trustworthy piano tuner!
