I was looking for an industry professional who could help update/refresh my current resume for future job pursuits; Keith far exceeded my expectations in doing so. We started by meeting face-to-face; Keith asked me questions about what I do, and what jobs I was seeking. The discussion was very casual and free-flowing, yet very pertinent: Keith took copious notes every step of the way, for use later. We then looked at my resume, and together decided what should stay on the paper, and what could be removed. Altogether, we spent two quality hours. From there, Keith took my marked-up resume, and his notes, and recreated a resume for me (Note-this was done for me the following morning!). I was truly impressed with the results: My resume was much more concise and readable, while keeping intact all robust content and also adding more achievements to really tell "my story". I look very forward to using this resume, and am confident that this will be a big help. If you are seeking a professional who can help give your resume a genuine boost, I highly recommend Keith Troemner.

LaunchPress owned and operated by Craig Hobson. Anyone can be a programmer or techie - but very few can be creative and technical digitally. Craig is a creative strategist on digital marketing approaches using Content Management Systems such as WordPress, information architect on helping evaluate WordPress Templates/Themes aligned to the business or brand, and of course technical in developing any custom tailored features as needed. He also understand the trends of websites with mobility sites and not just desktop sites. His concierge services are OUTSTANDING to help you decide what "tour" you want your visitor, customer, and clients to take when entering your digital realm for your brand, business, and company. He understand the big challenges of launching a digitalpress for a website/webpage is where to start and how to begin - he has developed in his 10 plus years of practice management for digital multimedia site development BEST PRACTICES on how to rapidly GTM for launching a new business, product, brand, or merely building up a project site. He also has knowledge of helping you with the "backoffice" getting started with registrations of domain urls and recommendation vendors for registrations. When you hire LAUNCHPRESS you are "outsourcing" the Digital Department staffed with Creative, Strategy, and Technical of your business to Craig Hobson and you can trust him for superior service, advice, and innovations. And if your project effort for digital realm launches needs expediting - Craig is there - and if it needs to be rescheduled or postponed - again Craig is there to accommodate with superior customer/client relations. When an entrepreneur, small business owner, and even an established mid-market company wants to select the right vendor to lead as a prime vendor for both project and ongoing services - LAUNCHPRESS should be your first choice in my opinion.

I've been working with Mike for more than a year for content writing in English. He is one of the most available and professional freelancers I've ever worked with. He is fast, creative and knows how to adapt his style to different genres. His articles are well written, catchy and easy to read. On a personal level he is a delicious person to deal with: friendly and professional at the same time, committed to the client's satisfaction and never overpromising (but often surprising in the quality of his service!). I honestly recommend him to anyone who is in need of an excellent English content writer.

I hired Mike to do some copy editing for an eBook I had written. Not only did he do an exceptional job with copy editing basics, he was able to recommend someways to restructure the content that would make the overall product better. On top of that, I asked if he could expedite the work and he was more than responsive. Overall, exceptional work. Very happy.

Gretchen is a creative powerhouse and a pleasure to work with. We worked together for several years at Time Out Chicago, where she never ceased to impress with her intelligence, sound judgment and creative thinking. She continuously developed smart, engaging story ideas and proved always reliable with deadlines. More recently, Gretchen and I have worked together in a freelance capacity, on a series of brand content marketing initiatives that included original blog content. That has been an equally positive experience.

When I need solutions, I call Faith. I can not begin to express how great it has been to work with her. I met Faith while serving as Marketing Director of a University. She was contracted for numerous editing projects. Later, Faith assisted me in transitioning to my present entrepreneurial role. We collaborated in web content creation/editing. Faith has a strong background in business services, accounting, and compliance. Yet, she enjoys writing and editing - what a combination. Her business recommendations have been invaluable and her excitement is phenomenal. You should see for yourself. Faith has my recommendation!

I have worked with Laina as a client in search of professional, expert advice on making important career decisions and launching an effective job search. Laina is an excellent listener with a great deal of empathy, who went below the surface and spent considerable amount of time to understand, clarify and fully comprehend my strengths, skill-set and professional experience, in order to deliver a very customized, unique and focused resume content which was highly authentic and accurate. Laina is positive and encouraging in her approach with her clients and at the same time resourceful with many fresh ideas and job-search strategies that are practical and relevant. She is generous with her time and she demonstrates a sincere interest in helping her clients achieve their goals. I enjoyed working with Laina and I believe I received a high quality range of services, including career advice, resume and Linkedin consultation coupled with specific job search strategies that were tailored to my individual needs and challenges. Laina collaborated with me, discussed in detail her views and advice and was flexible to incorporate my suggestions, requirements and specific needs so the final output will be as effective as possible. I recommend Laina as a Career Consultant and Resume / LI writer-consultant to all who are in job search. They will receive valuable service by a caring professional.

John's editing of my book far exceeded my expectations. Not only does he bring an eagle eye to line-editing, but he is that rare editor who can critique content, spot unclarity, repetition, and awkward segues as well. I recommend him highly, and in fact encouraged him to offer his talents to a broader community of writers. Try him. I think you'll be happy you did. AND he's easy to work with: no prickly ego, should you have a differing opinion about something. G.S.Reed

Lauren helped me to prepare content for a flyer with tips for first-time cat owners. She provided first-draft content and documented sources for that content, along with suggestions for formatting for the intended audience. I made some of my own tweaks, sent it back to her, and she polished that copy for me as well. Once I had it formatted, she also proofread the flyer. The quality was outstanding and the turnaround time was lightning fast. The entire flyer was finished in just a few days, and the end product was exactly what I was hoping for!

              Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why should you hire a web designer?

Your website is often the first thing your customers see when they’re searching for a business or service on the web. As the face of your organization, your website needs to be attractive and functional, offering the latest features that users now expect. To plan and design a site that both reflects your company’s mission and values and appeals to customers takes a professional web designer. While free online services can help people set up websites, web designers can provide a unique solution made specifically to meet customers’ personal or business needs.

Most web designers offer a wide variety of services to make your website aesthetically pleasing and easy to use. Modern web design must be mobile-friendly and scalable, capable of expanding to include a blog, social media sites, and even video streaming; web designers are experts at integrating various web technologies. They can build the site, add functionality, test it, launch it on a live server, and track and maintain its performance.

In addition to web design and graphic design, some web design providers also offer development and security services, including search engine optimization (SEO), social media marketing and management, logo design, site maintenance, domain registration and hosting, protection against malware, and digital marketing and content services.

How much do web designers charge?

The average cost for hiring a web designer varies greatly depending on the scope of the work, which may range from building a site from scratch to rebranding an existing one, as well as the amount of content and graphics the designer will create. In general, the more complex the project, the more time the design agency will have to spend. Because web designers often work on an hourly basis, the longer the project, the higher the costs; you can count on the web designer spending at minimum 10 hours to create a very basic website with just a handful of pages with few elements. Prices also depend on the designer’s skill set, the process, and the company’s rates. In general, the national average cost for a basic website package starts at $500, but a customized website can cost as much as $2,000 or more. Here are typical average hourly rates, broken out by the complexity of the work:

              • Basic layout and user interface: $15-$40 per hour
              • Content management system design: $20-$50 per hour
              • Custom website design with custom code: $45-$75 per hour

What should you look for in a website designer?

A professional web designer creates the look and feel of your website, collaborating with you to choose colors, creating logos and other branding materials, establishing page layouts, and creating sample pages. An important part of web design is making sure the site is functional, meets your goals, and is easy for users to navigate. When you’re looking to hire a web designer, start by reviewing the person’s portfolio. Look for samples of work that match what you envision for your website, including experience building the types of pages or features you want. Make sure the web designer is familiar with your industry and understands both industry trends and web design trends — an old-fashioned or out-of-touch site will turn customers away rather than intrigue them.

Because web designers tend to work as freelancers on a project basis, they must be excellent communicators, willing to manage their own work, and available on your schedule. Some critical skills, such as working collaboratively and responding enthusiastically to feedback, aren’t core to good web design, but make working with a web designer much easier. Finally, look for a web designer who has cross-functional knowledge, such as understanding marketing and conversion rate optimization in addition to web design.

What do you look for in a web design company?

The web design company you choose must be able to interpret your company’s mission and identity and turn it into an appealing website that connects with potential customers. They must help you reach your target audience and meet your business goals. A web design agency should have on staff both talented web designers, with fresh ideas and extensive technical and creative skills, and a marketing team that knows how to drive traffic to your site, encourage visitor engagement, and convert visitors into customers. Web designers should be able to build in search optimization and integrate your site with a content management system and e-commerce tools. Look, too, for a website design company that understands responsive design and can optimize your website for mobile devices and desktop browsers. The right web design company understand current design and website trends, has experience building sites in a variety of industries (not just yours), and has an expansive portfolio of live websites. Finally, don’t simply hire the cheapest bidder — in web design, as in all things, you get what you pay for.

How do you hire a web designer?

You’ve determined that the best way to create a professional, modern, mobile-friendly new website is to hire a professional web designer to build it. To hire the best person for the job — and to get the web design that best fits your company’s identity — it’s important to ask a few key questions:

              • What’s the scope of the work? Will the website be basic with just a few pages about your company, its services, and contact information? Or will it also have an e-commerce section for online shopping, a blog, or content for visitors to download? Before you hire a web designer, make sure you have a thorough, specific list of the components you must have the designer include in the web design.
              • What do you want your website to look like? Consider websites that are similar to the one you’d like to build, ideally in the same industry or serving similar types of customers. Build a set of examples of types of pages, design aspects, and website features that you can hand off to the web designer — the person you hire should have experience creating websites with the features you want. If they don’t have the right skill set, they’re not the right pro for you.
              • What’s the web designer’s start-to-finish process? What will the final deliverable be? Before you hire someone, make sure their availability works with your timeline and that their process meets your expectations. Most important is finding a web designer who will work collaboratively with you to create a successful online presence.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
