I have no idea why someone wouldn't rate five stars, when pleased with end results, like I am! Perhaps they just don't believe in giving full credit, but look no further than Wojciech Construction for excellent work quality, professionalism, responsiveness, punctuality and true value!

We hired McDonald Construction to tear out some old concrete and pour a new concrete walkway for our building. Mike was excellent to work with and was able to accommodate a tight timeline that we had to complete the work. Mike and his guys knocked out the project quickly and did an excellent job. The improvement made a big difference for our building. I would highly recommend Mike and his team and will definitely be contacting them down the road for other projects.

I hired Jeff after a home inspection while selling my home. I needed to fix a few things I didn't even know needed fixing. This included changing the main water valve under the house to working in the attic venting the bathroom fan. I also had some exterior eaves that need replacement. Jeff know how to handle all the jobs. He did a great job addressing everything. He is very knowledgeable when I comes to home construction. I plan on calling Jeff when I move to my new home for any work needed.

Bill did a job for our banquet hall-installing new moldings for a large dance floor. He did a great job, finished the project on time for the estimated price and was overall very professional. Outstanding job!

Well, of course the project ended up being way more work than I thought due to my house being old and "unique." Joe was honest about what needed to happen and I still feel that the price was fair for the amount of work he did. He took the time to do my project safely and efficiently. He's also a really nice guy, so that's a bonus. My yoga hammock is rigged and ready! Thanks, Joe!

I hired HGR Construction Services, Joel Sevilla by the recommendation of my heating and air conditioning contractor. I hired him for an insurance claim for hail damage to my aluminum siding, he worked with the insurance adjuster for almost 2 months to get me the most that he could from the insurance company. They ended up paying for partial of the siding that was damaged but more than what they first offered because Joel brought to their attention many things they had missed. Instead of replacing the siding with aluminum again I upgraded to vinyl and paid the difference of the upgrade. I also had him install all 15 new windows that were well over due to be replaced. Joel is very easy to work with the crews that came to do the work were very professional and thorough. Any problems that arose were taken care of immediately and professionally. I plan on having HGR Construction Services, Joel Sevilla re-roof my house this coming spring. I would recommend Joel 100%.

I can't say enough great things about working with Andronic Construction. Laying tile can be tricky, and Brian is a true craftsman. He is meticulous with fitting the tiles tightly, he re-arranged tile colors for me, he worked neatly, he cleaned up after himself at the end of each day. He arrived promptly and worked as quietly as possible. He was polite, respectful, and was truly a joy to work with.

After searching through a list of contractors, we went with ProPoint Construction. My wife and I felt more comfortable with someone who explained the process. Nick brought alot of structure and ideas he's had from other projects. He helped us focus and tunnel our vision for our remodel. Definitely, went with alot more of his ideas as he was aware what was trending. At the end of the day we received a contractor who helped correct our layout design with pros and cons. That demonstrated to us that experience was key. Everyone else barely spoke English and the communication and comfort level wasn't there for others. We've been hosting parties and everyone loves our new design to the house. Definitely, the easiest contractor we've ever worked with. Recommend him to three friends already! Thanks Nick! Workmanship and quality was above our expectations!

We needed to replace our kitchen floor. Not the tile but the entire floor. It was time to remodel our kitchen. We interviewed several different contractors. P&L Construction was the clear winner. When you hire P&L (which you should) you get more than Paul and Lester. They bring with them highly skilled carpenters, plumbers, electricians, painters and anyone else necessary to do what you need and do it very well. We were completely clueless about what we wanted. We knew we wanted to move the clothes washer and dryer away from the counter area in the kitchen. Paul was our primary point of contact and saw we were confused about what we wanted to do with the kitchen, the washer and dryer, and the adjoining pantry and powder room. Paul made several suggestions to get us started. He was always cautious about the costs and made some suggestions that would save us money. Paul gave us an itemized estimate on the costs separated by carpentry, plumbing, electrical, etc. P&L’s crew came in and completely rebuilt our kitchen area. When the floors, tile, cabinets, windows, moving and concealing the washer/dryer and other improvements were done the house looked like new. We were so impressed with the quality of the work that P&L did we hired them to do the rest of our home. Our house is now beautiful. It’s notable that the suggestions that Paul gave us are complimented the most when friends come by to see our new home. You would have a tough time finding anyone better than P&L Construction when it comes to quality, pride in their work, and most importantly results that will impress you. I’d give them 10 Stars.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do construction project managers do?

Construction project managers help in all stages of your construction project, starting from the very first step. Typically paid a percentage of a total project cost, they are part of the design and planning process and help ensure seamless communication between the design parties and the construction team. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, their scope of work includes preparing cost estimates, budgets and work timetables; interpreting and explaining contracts and technical information to other professionals; reporting work progress and budget to clients; collaborating with architects, engineers and other construction pros; selecting subcontractors and scheduling and coordinating their tasks; responding to work delays, emergencies and other problems; and ensuring compliance with legal requirements, building and safety codes, and other regulations.

The work of construction project managers may seem very similar to that of general contractors, but there are some critical differences. One difference is that, unlike most general contractors, project managers are not engaged in the actual construction — they are onsite overseeing the work of subcontractors. Another key difference is that project managers are hired during the design phase, while general contractors are hired after plans have been made. The project manager is generally paid a percentage of the total project cost, while the general contractor is more typically paid according to the bid they gave to build your project.

How do I find out if a contractor is licensed?

It’s important to know if your project requires work by a licensed professional, as licensing laws can vary by state, locality, and job details. You can find general licensing information online at the government websites that handle occupational licensing for a given profession in your state or location. Some states designate a project cost over which you have to hire a licensed contractor. To find qualified licensed contractors, search your state’s licensing board. For example, in California, the Department of Consumer Affairs operates a searchable database through the Contractors State License Board. In some states, contracting licenses are provided at a regional level. You can find links to specific databases on BRB Publications’ Occupational Licensing page. Red flags that a contractor may not be licensed or may be providing an expired or false license number are unreasonably low bids or a request for complete payment upfront. How much does a project manager charge per hour?

You may choose to hire a construction project manager for your residential or commercial project. For the hands-on homeowner who wants to be involved in home construction but isn’t comfortable hiring subcontractors, a construction project manager can oversee these relationships and supervise labor. Typically, construction project managers charge a fee that is a flat percentage of the total construction project cost. This may range from 10 percent to 15 percent, depending on the company and the services they provide. This means a $30,000 home remodel project would have a construction project management fee of $3,000-$4,500. Hiring a construction project manager generally precludes the markup on subcontractor labor charged by a general contractor. The drawback to this choice is that, unlike a general contractor, the construction project manager won’t be financially responsible for the work of the subcontractors. For larger projects, you may hire a construction project manager who will also hire a general contractor. This provides the benefits of the general contractor along with the management services of the project manager, who will be on board from the beginning. The construction project manager will be involved in the design phase and work with the architects and the building crew, facilitating a smoother overall process.

What is a contractor license number?

A contractor license number is proof that your contractor is operating their business legally, that they have the proper documentation required by your state or region, and that they are competent in their area of work (electrical, plumbing, construction, etc.). Licensed contractors should freely advertise their contractor license number. If not, you can request it before considering them for hire. You can also research your contractor using their license number. The database for your state will indicate the field they are licensed to work in; whether they are up to date on insurance, workers’ compensation and bonds; and whether they have any consumer complaints issued against them. If the licensed contractor you are hiring does not have employees, they are not required to carry workers’ compensation. Each state or region will have their own database for licenses, such as the State of Oregon Construction Contractors Board. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.
