Susan Is very knowledgeable about animals. She gave us an education along with the training. The one-on-one training is much better than the generic dog training classes out there and is customized to our needs as well as our dog's needs. Very much looking forward to our continued work with Susan.
After spending over 5k on dog training I was less than impressed when my wife suggested just one more trainer. I bought Frankie the Frenchie for my wife as an engagement present 3 years ago. I travel for business and we didn't have any children yet. So I thought hey how about a dog to keep you company while I'm away. So here we are with this tiny adorable little dog with the cutest ears I have ever seen. My wife was happy, so I was happy. Well about 6 months in I would come home and Frankie would growl and me and lunge at me, I figured it was just him being protective. I wasn't home that often so when I was Frankie was in his crate. Over time it got worse and worse with him and I began to worry that he may actually bite me if I try to get in his way of my wife. So summer 2013 we began looking for a trainer to help us. The first program was 2 weeks at a place called tops in grayslake, not only did is cost a ton but it didn't do anything for him and I feel like he came back worse than he started. We tried a few more programs and still nothing helped..I started thinking Frankie was just a mean dog and only liked my wife. Well in June of this year we found out we are going to have a baby, and my wife can't bare the thought of getting rid of Frankie, plus with his attitude we weren't sure someone would be able to adopt him. Our neighbor suggested YBFDH, told us if anyone can fix it Diana the head trainer can. We called them and after telling them we have already spent so much money we were about to give up. She told us please don't give up let's meet and we can help you. I though yeah that's what eveeyone has said leading up until now. They ended up only charging us 50% of the price because we already went through so much, and they refused to take a penny more. Frankie stayed with them for 6.5 weeks and then he was ready to come home. He has been home since September 28th and things have been great. He is such a sweet boy, it turned out he was very insecure so he was acting out because he was afraid of me. YBFDH helped us also to be better dog owners. Frankie is going on long walks each day, my wife and I rotate who walks him and feeds him each day. We plan to have a bit more training done in our home after the baby comes! But this program is great! It really works!
Are experience was truly amazing! We have a 1 year old German Shepard mix that is high energy and within the first half hour Dee had her understanding commands like sit, bed, lie down and stay. She also showed us how to get her to stop jumping and nipping. Not only was the training great and effective but her recommendations for items to help walking and keeping her busy while we are not home were as well. We also really liked that she is very passionate at helping dogs and and their owners and that was very evident because she works with you during first appointment and then if you need any extra help you can text, call or email her! I would highly recommend this dog trainer!!
Scott did a great job with house training/off leash training with my dog, Penny, and later bird training.
Scott did a great job of getting to root of my german shepherd's behavioral issues and identified what I could be doing better. Within one hour I was walking my dog without issues. Since our session, my dog and I are enjoying near-perfect walks as she a far-less distracted by her surroundings and more focused on me. At home, she is calmer and I noticed much less barking which is a nice plus. Overall, I am pleased that I could have this much control after one session. I would highly recommend Scott for any dog training needs.
Sherry is a great lady. She is kind, encouraging, and very knowledgeable. She taught us a lot of great techniques and was a joy to work with. Would highly recommend her to help with any dog training needs --Denise S
Great extra service added by YBFDH!! This place was really great with working out our dogs aggression, and then when we were ready they helped us get him certified as an emotional support dog. I noticed a review on here or their other page stating that a dog had been in a fight. I am the owner of the second dog in this " fight". The story in the review below is inaccurate. The owner of YBFDH acted as any business owner would in the situation that was presented. I think it is malicious and frankly disgusting to post such a review. YBFDH/AT YOUR SERVICE has been a god send for our family! If you're not satisfied with your experience I will reimburse you for your training costs!
Super friendly and my dog loves him!! Very patient and calm despite our anxious dog! Just 20 min and we've seen improvements!
Jim provides the creme de la creme in dog training. His knowledge and professionalism are outstanding. He is sincere and takes the time to listen to you and your dog. The changes he has implemented in our dogs life as well as our family is greatly appreciated and worth every dollar spent. Thanks Jim!
I could not say enough good things about working with Stephanie when it came to training my dog. I have a rambunctious bulldog who's a year and a half. Nothing but behavioral problems, nipping, chewing things, eating things, and not coming when called. She was always on time, patient with my dog and myself, and made me feel comfortable with having her take care of my pup. I would HIGHLY recommend having her train your dog. I was thoroughly impressed to say the least!! I fully intend on utilizing this training in the future with future dogs as well.
Even though I didn't eventually need a walker, I was impressed with the prompt, polite, and accommodating responses from your employee. If I should need dog walking services in the future, I surely will contact you.
Gina was excellent to work with. Not only is she good with our Dog, but probably as important: good with us (after all, Dog Training is more about teaching the owners to teach the dog, than teaching the dog!).
Jeanie Murray: Well, seven years ago Tom McMurchie worked with me and my 1-year old Labradoodle, Rush, in Phoenix AZ. I don't have adequate words to explain how wonderful the experience was. Tom was knowledgeable, professional, patient, humane, and just darn perfect. He trained me as well to make Rush an awesome, well-mannered family member. Then, Tom moved to Chicago. Rush is 8 years old (still perfect), but Tom has always been available for me to talk to him on the phone with dog-training advice. Then we brought a second Labradoodle into our home at 8 weeks old, Reagan. Do I ever wish Tom was still here to work with me and Reagan, who is a work in progress (almost 3 years old now). Actually, Tom did advise from afar when I had questions about Reagan. If you are looking for that perfect person to work with you and your dog, don't look any further than Tom McMurchie. Thanks, Tom!
Here is a little history, we adopted a tree walker coonhound from a shelter in Tennessee and brought him home to Wisconsin. The first month was ok as we all got adjusted to each other. There were counter surfing, mouthing and dominance issues from the beginning. We knew we had a stubborn ALPHA, ALPHA male but we were working through it. The dog and I had an altercation over a rawhide where he became very aggressive and tried to bite me. From that day forward he would try to attack me unsolicited any time he saw me or heard my voice. It got so bad I would have to lock myself in a room so my wife could let him out. I am 6',1" tall and 220 lbs, this is the first time in my life with all the dogs I've owned that I was afraid of a dog. We talked to many behaviorist's whom all said we should just rehome the dog and had no answers for us. I was determined not to give up and make things work because I knew that this was a good dog deep down inside. That is when I was recommend to Shelly at "Hair of the dog that bit ya". I got a great feeling from her right away on the phone and was intrigued by her explanation of how she handles her training of dogs (it was a much different approach from what I was hearing from everyone else). This is a large breed hunting dog who is aggressive and she knew exactly how to handle it. She came out the very next morning to a situation where everyone in the house was uneasy and afraid of this dog who now was in total control of the situation. Long story short after two hours Shelly had broken the dog had him taking commands from both my wife and myself. We felt like we had our lives back and believe it or not the dog seemed happier that he now knew the pecking order. This was truly a Christmas miracle for my entire family. The picture attached is from the same day where that morning my dog wanted to kill me and what he was like by the afternoon! I cannot thank Shelly enough and I am so excited for our new life together with Bohannon. Todd & Shelly Bloom
Leslie put me at ease the moment she walked through my front door! She is so easy to talk to about any issues concerning my dog and takes the time and care to personalize training to that dogs needs. Her training method allows for the puppy parent to both see Leslie herself do it and then for me to do it myself, since us humans needs training too! It's very crucial that the puppy parents takes and use her guidance as it will pay off immensely! My puppy, Rhett, was constantly love biting for attention and bothering us during non play time, like dinner. Thanks to her training (me and Rhett that is, lol), he is not nipping and knows when we go to eat, it's not play time. He's also much improved with greetings, has better focus, and is well in his way to be an excellent Canine Citizen! We love, Leslie! 2 paws up! !
