BOOK THEM RIGHT NOW!!!!! :) :) IT WILL BE THE BEST DECISION YOU MADE FOR YOUR SPECIAL DAY!!!! We are absolutely in love with our wedding video!!! It truly left us speechless. It not only captured the events of our very special day, but told a visual story. The quality of their work will take your breath away, you can tell they genuinely put their heart and soul into each film. We were in awe upon receiving the video, everyone we showed teared up and said they had never seen such an amazing/unique wedding video!!!! Our cinematographer Chris was so professional, cooperative, and more than willing to take input. He is a true artist. He truly captured our wedding night and all of the most precious moments. He was completely non-invasive yet somehow captured everything. He was very kind and an amazing asset to the whole night. We can honestly say, going with him was one of the best decisions we made. We can't possibly begin to express how much we appreciate this. We will now forever be able to relive the memories of our wedding through this video. One other thing, our previous videographer canceled on us the week before the wedding. Chris was able to help us last minute and we are beyond thrilled and lucky that the previous guy canceled on us. The work Chris did is beyond unique and cannot stress how much we love his work. The video is our absolute favorite thing we received from all of the vendors!!! Nothing compared. Thank you sooo much for capturing our fairytale and for allowing us to relive the best day of our lives. I will cherish my video forever & can't wait to show my children someday!!! I attached a few photos with them in the background. We never even knew they were there!! Even after the wedding people told me how impressed they had been with them and the footage captured was amazing since they never even noticed them. Thank you again for our gorgeous wedding video!

I cannot say enough good things about Tom and Blink of an Eye Productions. He originally did my sister's wedding video in 2009--a video we STILL watch time and time again at family gatherings. He did such a great job that I knew I'd want him to do my own wedding video (even 6 years later)! For starters, Tom is an absolute professional! He was on time; prepared; well-dressed (my bridesmaids were swooning over him!); and so accommodating. By far one of my best vendors! He was perfect the day of my wedding, as was his other cinematographer (TIP: Hire the 2nd cinematographer for the day so both Bride/Groom can have constant video coverage). I swear he’s like a ninja because he would blend in with the crowd and always maintain the perfect distance to allow us to experience our special wedding moments, while being able to capture it all the same. Most of the time I forgot he was even there. He also chose to stay and film my wedding at least an hour later than we agreed because he wanted to make sure he had everything he needed to guarantee our satisfaction. That detail alone would make me choose Tom over every other videographer. It’s simple, he CARES about his clients and their happiness. He isn’t there to just get some shots, leave, and make a stock video of your wedding. He’s an artist who is constantly inspired by his surroundings and wants to be sure he has everything he needs to deliver a product that is tailor made to each Bride and Groom. What more could you ask for?? Not only was Tom great to work with on the day of our wedding, but he was wonderful both pre and post wedding. He is super on top of things and has great communication with the client. And the end product (our wedding video) was nothing short of spectacular. I have NO idea how he took our 10+ hour day and edited it so beautifully. He has an amazing talent for detail and edits together your best moments to create a seamless story that you want to watch again and again. He captured moments that I didn’t even know existed. As a person in the film industry, I have a very high bar for quality of film. Tom surpassed my expectations and delivered my wedding in an art form that I can forever cherish. I am beyond grateful for all of his efforts. Because of him, I have the great pleasure of being able to relive the happiest day of my life anytime I please. Do yourself a favor and hire Tom to capture your wedding day! I guarantee he will end up being one of your favorite vendors, too!

Dan and I worked together on my short film project Catching Broken Glass. Dan was the assistant director, cinematographer as well editor and sound. What impressed the most was Dan's endless knowledge of his craft and that he's constantly learning and looking for ways to continually perfect his craft. As far as time is concerned. Dan would always come early enough to set up up his equipment. I am certainly looking forward to the final cut so I begin entering my project for the 2015 film festivals.

Noel guided and advised me during my video shoot. Certainly knew what he was doing and very easy to work with. The video was put together perfectly the first time. Needed no re-editing. Was extremely happy with the video. If/when I have future need for video work I would not hesitate to call him. Thankyou Noel !

Mason is a superb cinematographer. He's got a sharp eye for shots, knows how to get in and get em, and is an excellent communicator. He's highly creative but very flexible--he's able to either work with your idea or come up with one of his own and see it through to completion. Highly recommend him for any filming jobs you have!

I was incredibly nervous to hire vendors off of thumbtack due to one very poor experience but Vanessa made the entire experience one to remember. She and her husband are completely professional and do outstanding work. They were a joy to have around on my special day; very sweet, patient and respectful of the photographers which went a long way to having happy vendors all the way around. I couldn't be happier with our extended highlight video and 60 minute video. She was quick to respond throughout the process even after we were done which I loved. Choose Forty One Films, their work speaks for itself!

      New To Thumbtack

I am an aspiring cinematographer. I have this passion for arts, and I want to bring my ideas and vision to something people can appreciate. Seeing things in a creative way is one of my qualities that will surely justify the meaning of beauty. Capturing life's moments would be the best work I could see in myself.

I graduated from Columbia College with a BA in Cinematography and have been pursuing my dreams in the videography and cinematography fields. Though one day I would enjoy to be a cinematographer of feature films, I enjoy doing videography work for small events and helping on small budget shorts when and where I can.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

        • Package 1: $1,400
          • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
          • Two cameras with audio equipment.
          • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
          • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
        • Package 2: $1,800
          • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
