Sandy has done a terrific job. She is an excellent writer, but, more than that, she takes the time to figure out exactly what your goals are, and then tailors her writing to be in line with those goals. She is also prompt, dependable, and charges extremely reasonable fees. I highly recommend Sandy for your writing needs!

Laura is a professional in every sense of the word. From the beginning of the process all the way up until the end she was helpful and insightful. I would recommend her fully for all of you upcoming writing projects. In a very short time she was able to understand my voice, and write in that voice. She is also quite funny and very easy to work with.

Greatly positive and highly capable English tutor! Victoria is one of the best English tutors I have ever met. She is very patient, positive and energetic tutor who can work with any level of English learners. She is also very knowledgeable and skillful writing tutor in various subjects such as politics, culture, social issue and business etc. I used be a 'C' student from my English composition class, but she helped me to improve my weak points of writing and guided to build a strong firm foundation of college essay writing. I highly recommend Victoria as a tutor to whoever needs help in writing or leaning English. She is the best of the best.

I've worked with Kyra Marcano in a few different capacities. Kyra is incredibly personable and has a unique ability to cultivate authentic, trusting relationships with anyone. Strong writing and editing demands a commitment to detail and creativity. Kyra adds both. I wholly recommend Brilliant Light.

Jessie helped me edit and better the flow of the book that I had wrote. When I chose her it was initially because of her educational background and the energy she brought to my work but once we started to dive into the writing I was even more impressed! She lives for this, she did such an amazing job and I will be utilizing her serives for any future work as well as referring my friends and family to her. Some of the things I did not not know upon choosing her to edit my work is that she uses Google Docs to help create a collaborative environment that is also convenient, easy to navigate through and allows for the opportunity to compare the edits she has made to what was previously written. The best way to describe her work is that she took what I was trying to explain to the reader/audience and ACTUALLY made it into what I was trying to explain. Thank you Jessie!

I was fortunate enough to experience a true professional Racquel, with exemplary resume writing skills. She exceeded far beyond my expectations with phenomenal formatting, objectives, graphing and summary that marketed a customized footprint that represented my career achievements. I have had the pleasure to hear from HR hiring managers, " The best resume I have ever seen". Of course, it locked my position in for the job.

Remy was indispensably helpful in editing my papers. Her knowledge of good writing techniques and command of language helped transform my work to new levels. She provides great tips for how to strengthen your argument and how to add the strongest types of evidence and analysis to your work. I've never received such useful, personalized advice in or out of school. I will reach out in a heartbeat to her for my next project, and I would definitely recommend her!

I'm an experienced teacher/professor, having taught writing and mentored students through their dissertation processes. I will write resumes and cover letters and provide also a post interview thank you letter template for your use. My main area of expertise is with healthcare positions and/or entry level positions. I will also write stories, articles, talks, papers, etc... My only request is that you have a clear and concise topic or main idea that you can communicate to me. I am also available for light pre-interview and job hunt coaching. Again this is for healthcare based jobs and/or entry level positions. Writing is simply a gift I have been given. I'm not saying I could pen a novel or anything. I just have the ability to express things clearly and quickly on paper in the context desired. So, unless it's a novel, your writing needs are safe with me. Finally, I am also available for any type of skills tutoring that you might need in the field of Registered Nursing. Has that last drip rate calculation test thrown you for a loop? D/H x Q = A, Yes? No one to practice your IV or injection skills on? Not sure which end is up on a catheter? I can help! As long as you can bring the equipment from your school lab or job, we can practice until you are comfortable with whatever skill you need help with. (Obviously with skills such as catheter insertion, we will be pretending. However, with some skills I can get you actual "live" time). I also have several tricks to make studying very effective and much easier. And, a list of test taking tactics to share as well. I have been an RN for 18 years. I have worked in areas such as Labor and Delivery, Phlebology and Acute Alcohol and Drug Detox. These are all "skills intensive" specialties. Therefore, my nursing skills are well up to date.

I produce and direct films and spots of all kind, that being said writing is my passion. Through great writing you can create a whole new world and that's a superpower.

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

  • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
  • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
  • Expertise in your target area.
  • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

  • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
  • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
  • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
  • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
