I teach online piano and music theory lessons. I believe that music instruction should be enjoyable, built on a solid technical foundation, inspire creativity, and match each individual's goals. Learning an instrument — like the piano, for instance — has many scientifically proven benefits. Playing music enhances a student's development in areas of focus, memorization, motor control, reading and more. It enriches lives and brings families together.
I am a highly experienced professional musician who currently teaches classical, jazz, blues, gospel, show tunes and c&w. I have been a performer, composer, songwriter, and teacher and played acoustic piano and electric keyboards. My versatile background enables me to teach all styles of music adapted to the student's learning style. I have a Bachelor of Music degree with a major in composition and music theory and a minor in applied piano [classical performance].
Albert Hirsh, known for his advanced piano technique, taught me on the collegiate level for 5 years. I have taught in various music studios and private homes, but am currently only taking live one-on-one online students. I love teaching online and have had students who stayed with me for up to 9 years. I have taught ages 6 to adults online and most stay with me for 5 years or more.
In an administrative role, I served 5 years as Executive Director for a non-profit arts organization that organized the Houston Jazz Festival and Juneteenth Blues Festival. I previously worked extensively as a concert jazz pianist, classical accompanist for ballet schools, and director of music for theatrical productions. I lead my own group, which shared the concert stage with notables such as Ahmad Jamal, Kirk Whalum, Charles Rouse, and others. I worked as a pianist with notable jazz artists: Milt Larkin, Arnett Cobb, Jimmy Ford, Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson, and many others. I worked also as a gospel pianist for 7 years. I am currently only teaching online.See more
