Bob, was great... He came to our home at 6:30 in the morning to fix our air conditioner. He was on time, very professional. He figured out what was wrong very quickly and fixed it. I would definitely call him again if anything goes wrong with our heating or air.

I hired Casa Heating & Cooling to install a new air conditioner in June. Overall, it was a good experience. Mike came out and looked at my current AC unit and setup before giving me a quote. The quote was competitive. He worked with me to find a unit that met my needs. The install took longer than expected but they were able to complete it in one day. The new AC worked great all summer with no issues. I didn't have to call him back out at any point during the summer to make adjustments. I would recommend using Casa Heating and Cooling for your AC needs.

Came over to fix a mystery water pump issue that several plumbers hadn’t been able to identify, identified the issue very quickly after deep-diving into the pump’s manual (air in the pump), and fixed it right there on the spot.

I needed to have my air conditioner replaced. The owner of ComfortAire Inc and his technician showed up on time to give me a quote. They were much more thorough than the other company who came to give an estimate. Unlike their competitor, they studied my system before providing quote. Their price was also reasonable. When they did the installation, they were on time. The job took as long as they said it would. The unit is working great. I am really happy because of my significant electric bill savings and how quiet the unit runs. I recommend ComfortAire Heating & Air conditioning Inc. for great, caring service.

Ronaldo showed up early and did an amazing install of a new Air Conditioner. Tim's quote was HUNDREDS of dollars less than the next few guys for the exact same unit by the exact same manufacturer. TDH bumps the normal warranty from 10 to 15 years. They've been in business for 35+ years, trust these guys!

Dion was BEYOND fantastic!!!He responded almost immediately after i posted the job, and he was at my house less than an hour after he and I spoke on the phone. Dion fixed the issue with my AC and was very patient and knowledgeable when explaining everything to me. While he was working on my AC, I mentioned that i was fairly certain my air ducts were full of dust from a recent home renovation & probably needed to be cleaned. Dion gave me a reasonable quote to clean them, and I was going to talk it over with my husband that week and would be in touch to schedule it for a later date. However Dion took extra time after completing the AC job to examine my vents. After inspecting them, he told me that they really were not that bad, and he didn’t think they needed to be cleaned at this point. What an HONEST GUY! He could have easily taken advantage of the situation and made a quick buck off of me, but he didn’t!!! He was completely HONEST & clearly wanted what was in the best interest for me and my home. We will definitely be using Dion again!

It was discovered that the problem was not the air conditioner but the circuit board. We therefore need a electrician instead.

Vitaliy was great! He came out for a quote the same day I contacted him and the job was done just a few days later. We're very happy with our new central air conditioning. It works well! Vitaliy upgraded both the unit and a pump free of charge because of our home's unique quirks. I would definitely recommend him! Thank you, Vitaliy!

I was very pleased with the work! I was having an air conditioner put in what was previously a transom window. RMR had a clear understanding of what was needed for the demolition and exactly how to rebuild and support the AC. Matt worked very quickly and efficiently. He also was able to tackle a few other projects on the same trip. I would definitely recommend and plan to have RMR return for other projects.

As Murphy's law would have it, our air conditioner broke down in the heat of the summer. I used Thumbtack once before and had good luck so I tried it again. I received multiple responses all in the same price range, but Bobby offered quality options instead of just the cheapest unit on the market. On top of that, he was willing to install the unit on the weekend without an up-charge! He was at our house early Saturday morning and had the unit installed by noon. He actually came back on Sunday to redo some external pipe wrapping because it bothered him that his helper didn't do it up to his standards. Honestly, I never noticed anything wrong, but that just showed me that he cares about quality work and his reputation. I would definitely recommend him!

EXCELLENT company!!!! John Polermi is the person I worked with and he and his team did a great job. This company installed a new home heating system for me and a new air conditioning part. They were reliable, professional, fairly priced and left the work area spotless after a major installation. I give this company my highest recommendation.

Jason was excellent I was without heat on the coldest day of the year & waited all day for Four Seasons to arrive to install new boiler when they finally showed up at 5:30pm they were trying to charge me a price of over $6000 for a boiler that is advertised for $3600 because it was so cold out & we were desperate to get heat. I could not agree with that I called Jason from COMFORT AIR he came to my house 7:30pm checked all my radiators & the boiler Four Seasons was gonna install was not the proper size for my house so I will recommend COMFORT AIR THEY ARE GREAT I FEEL THEY ARE CARING & HONEST I'm really thank God I called him. I will HIGHLY recommend THIS COMPANY.

The company did an outstanding job on the installation of my new air conditioning unit. I was so happy that the company came out right away to give an estimate and then installed the new air within a few days after the estimate. The pricing of the new air was so reasonable and the cleaning of my furnace was included. The company came out the day they said they would come and despite having an earlier job that they needed to finish they came and stayed until 10pm to complete my air installation. They could have come back the next day but they stars and completed the job!! I was so impressed. The air is keeping us cool!!!! I would highly recommend this company to family and friends.

I have been knowing Kermit for 17 years when I bout my house. He was referred to me to put in a new furnace in my house which I had only been living in for six months. I still have that same furnace. If I call Kermit about any issue whether its my furnace, air conditioner or electrical he is prompt to fix the issue. I have and will continue to refer him to friends, family or my neighbors. This company deserves five stars. They did not just replace my heater and air conditioner, but they built me a whole new system for my house. Going above and beyond is an understatement with these too young men. Johnny and Joey were two of the nicest workers I’ve came across in a long time. Friendly, knowledgeable, also very clean. Truly top rated company. Thank you Johnny and Joey. Great job

I spoke with Gabriel over the phone and he sent out his technician, Luis for the job. Luis was courteous and had the job completed in less time than I thought it would take and at a price much less than other quotes I received. I highly recommend Air Quality.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is an HVAC system?

The letters in HVAC stand for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. An HVAC system enables you to regulate your home or building’s internal temperature (thermal control) for comfortable living and working. You can bring heat levels down in the summer and up in the winter, keeping your home or office livable year-round. HVAC systems can also help with humidity levels and regulate indoor air quality in a home or office. There are many types of HVAC systems and technologies available.

Many homes have a forced-air HVAC system. Both the heating and the central air conditioning units share a ductwork system where they either push in or pull out warm or cooled air. There are also heating and cooling systems that don’t require ductwork — such as ductless mini-splits — but work on the same principles of heat exchange. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670, with costs varying depending on the work you need done and the equipment you are installing.

How many years does HVAC last?

The number of years an HVAC system lasts depend on the type and brand of components that make up your system. The lifespan of an air conditioner averages between 15 and 20 years. The life expectancy of a tankless water heater is approximately 20 years, while a storage water heater is closer to 10-15 years. Ducts may need replacing within 10-15 years. Your equipment will have a longer life if you have regular tuneups and maintenance to keep everything in good working order. If you’re having repair problems and your HVAC system is over 10 years old, it’s a good time to consider the costs and benefits of repairing vs. replacing. Energystar.gov provides the following tips to help you decide whether to repair or replace:

    • Your HVAC system needs frequent repairs and your energy bills are increasing.
    • Your cooling or heating equipment is less efficient.
    • Rooms in your home are too hot or too cold.
    • Your heat pump or air conditioner is more than 10 years old.
      • Replacing your system with an Energy Star-certified unit could save up to 20 percent on your heating and cooling bills.
    • Your furnace or boiler is more than 15 years old.
      • You may choose to replace your system with an Energy Star-certified furnace (which is 15 percent more efficient than a conventional furnace) or an Energy Star-certified boiler (which is 5 percent more efficient).
    • Your home has humidity problems.
    • Your home has excessive dust.
      • Leaky ducts can pull particles and air from attics, crawl spaces and basements and distribute them throughout your house. Sealing your ducts may be a solution.
    • Your heating or cooling system is noisy.
      • You could have an undersized duct system or a problem with the indoor coil of your cooling equipment.
    • Your score on the Home Energy Yardstick is below five.
      • That means your home energy use is above average and you're probably paying too much for your utilities.

How much does it cost to get central air?

Prices for central-air HVAC systems will vary. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670 but can run as high as $5,000 or even $12,000 depending on the capacity you need and other factors. Installing central air conditioning requires an entire system that works together to draw hot air out of your home. The system includes an outdoor unit, which houses the condenser and compressor, and the evaporator coils. If you don’t have an existing duct system, ductwork will need to be installed, which will affect labor and material costs. Leaking or damaged ducts will also need to be replaced.

How much does it cost for a new air conditioning unit?

If you’re ready for a new air conditioning unit, it’s time to start exploring HVAC prices. The price will vary depending on the type of air conditioner you buy and its cooling capacity. Window units, which require minimal installation, are one of the most affordable options on the market. If you’re purchasing from a big-box store, you can expect to pay approximately $120-$1,000 for a window unit. Window units are appealing for their quick setup and relatively low cost, but they can use more energy over time than central air and only cool the room in which they’re installed. Portable air conditioners don’t have the cooling power of a window unit, but they do have the perk of being transportable from room to room. Expect to pay between $225 and $800 for a portable air conditioner, on average. For a whole-house air conditioning system with coils, condenser and line (not including installation or ductwork), the cost from a big-box store can range from approximately $2,000 to $4,000 or more. If you don’t have (and don’t want to put in) ducts, a ductless mini-split air conditioner is a good option, although pricey up front. Pricing can range from $650 to $4,250 per unit on average; you’ll need one unit for each room in which you want temperature control.
