I had Ram install all new crown molding throughout my house, including kitchens and bathrooms. Everything was installed and finished within two days of start - and it looks amazing. Some of the walls in my home are uneven and not perfectly square around the cabinets, but Ram was still able to install the crown molding with a very professional look. One other comment....When installing the crown molding in my bathroom, there was a slight issue with my bathtub faucet and didn't notice the issue until after they completely finished installing the crown molding. I let Raul know there was a slight issue and he came out same day had it fixed in no time. Anyone that has ever dealt with renovations knows there are always little unexpected issues that arise during the renovation process. I think what separates Ram from other contractors is that he is willing to own his work and fix any issues that arise - and fix them immediately. I highly recommend Ram!

Our household has a fine china cabinet which needed structural support and finishing. It was an heirloom past on from pervious generations; we were looking for an experienced carpenter for the job. Andy was very professional, efficient and thorough in his assessment of the job. He had the eye of a craftsman and the efficiency and knowledge of a contractor. I would highly recommend Andy for any carpentry job, be it a large entire room installation or delicate cabinetry work. The Leon Family Chicago, Illinois

Couldn't be more pleased with the entire process and end result. They built us a custom standing kitchen island, makeup vanity disk that matches the existing cabinetry and brand new fireplace mantel. Incredibly well priced, creative, communicative and went above and beyond to ensure the designs and work matched my initial vision. They matched existing paint colors and stains, created custom doors to match existing cabinet doors and even came by to show mockups before installation. I wouldn't even bother with looking at other companies -- K Cabinet is the only choice.

My wife and I bought a house that was a bit of a fixer-upper in Chicago. The built-in hutch was showing a lot of wear in the finish, and the original wood work in the kitchen and dining room were looking pretty dismal. We were recommended Fay Furniture by some friends after they had worked with them to completely refinish all of the wood in their home. Within a day of calling to set up an appointment, the Fays were at our home looking at the wood and discussing possibilities with us. We had some ideas about the color we were looking for (a darker espresso that still showed the wood grain - it matched our furniture) and they were off. It seemed like a huge job, but they were finished within three weeks. That's all the trim around the floors and ceiling, the hutch, and the kitchen cabinets. The level of detail was simply amazing - the color of all of the refinished wood in both rooms matches perfectly with our furniture, and they were absolute perfectionists when it came to making sure we were satisfied customers. So what else can I say? Being a small, family-run business, they were extremely attentive to our needs, gave us an amazing price ($150 less than the nearest of 3 quotes), and left us with a beautiful home. They have made customers for life!

Hi I had A-Top Remodeling do some work on a house I was updating. I met Tony while looking for someone to replace interior and exterior doors. We had a great experience with that phase of the project that we asked him to bid the kitchen cabinet installation. The cabinets came out beautiful and the he gave us some great ideas for finishing touches in the kitchen and dining room. He came up with the idea to add crown molding in the dining room and living room which looks fabulous. He also suggested crown molding in the kitchen over the upper cabinets and adding led lights in the crown molding and under the cabinets in the kitchen. Tony has the ability to turn a basic job into something breathtaking. I am very happy with the quality of the work performed and the time required to finish. He was also great at returning to install damaged and missing cabinet pieces. I have some more projects on the back burner that I look forward to working with him on. Tony has great ideas to take the project over the top and best of all he is dependable. He shows up when he says he will be there. All in all a very pleasant experience. Look forward to working with him again. Ron Zomparelli PS My daughter will post pictures as she lives in the house.

Jerry did a great job on hanging cabinets with intricate trim work. He was able to adapt to some unforseen challenges with uneven floors and ceilings and made the finished product look great. We will use him for future fine carpenrty work.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.
