Bruno and crew are top notch. He has been extremely responsive even though my job was on hold for four months since he first quoted me. Once I was ready we got things going immediately. He came back to double check everything and quoted me on everything we would need to finish flooring on a new remodel project. He was punctual, competitively priced, and above all, does detail oriented, professional work. When it comes to flooring, carpentry, tear outs etc. he is very knowledgeable and it shows. He holds himself to a high standard and has stayed longer than he perhaps expected on certain days to mediate uneven walls and ceilings etc. and make the jobs perfect. His guys are quiet and respectful. Very clean. They come with powerful vacuums and brooms and clean the floors and areas multiple times throughout the day. In this big renovation we’ve done, they’ve been the cleanest and most professional to deal with. I have a baby and a toddler, and it is very tough having people in my house with loud machinery and dust and all of the commotion. They have been cognizant of that and done their best to be on time and work with my schedules and be respectful of our space. Below are photos of our floor now, and the tile and doors before. They pulled out tiles, laid down concrete and new flooring, and did carpentry work where doors came out to open up our house into a new sunroom. I will post more pictures of the carpentry work once finished.See more

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What’s the best way to set up a consultation or an appointment with a painter during the COVID-19 pandemic?

To stay safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s important to use virtual tools for communication. If you’re hiring local interior and exterior painters, contact them to see if they’ll set up a video call to assess your project. During this call, they can get a feel for what needs to be done and may be able to give you a price quote.

Discuss potential plans and strategies for getting the work done safely. And ask whether they accept virtual or digital payments.

How can I find out if a painter is considered an essential COVID-19 service provider?

To figure out whether a painter is considered an essential service provider during the COVID-19 pandemic, visit your local jurisdiction or state’s government website for information.

The CISA website also provides a helpful resource: Identifying Critical Infrastructure During COVID-19. This page is intended for a national audience and includes 16 different categories of critical infrastructure sectors. Some jurisdictions follow CISA’s definitions of critical infrastructure, but not all of them do.

Can I use digital payments to pay for painting services?

Many painters accept digital payments through Venmo, Square Cash, Google Pay, PayPal, Zelle and others. Due to COVID-19, others may quickly adopt this technology to maintain social distancing practices and follow health recommendations.

Contact professionals beforehand to ensure they’re able to accept digital payments and continue to follow safety guidelines throughout your interactions. Compare local interior and exterior painters’ profiles to see which types of payments they accept.

Does a painter need to enter my home?

If you’re hiring an exterior painter, the painter will likely not need to enter your home. But for interior paint jobs, the painter will need to enter your home.

When talking to potential painters, discuss a strategy to make sure you and the painter(s) stay safe while they’re completing the job in your home. Or, you might want to discuss scheduling the paint job at a later date.

Do painters offer remote or virtual services?

Though painting has always been an in-person job, painters may be willing to offer some virtual help due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. If you come across painters’ profiles that state they offer remote services, message the painters to see what those services include.

How much value does painting add to a house?

Due to a lack of data available, it’s hard to say whether painting your home’s interior or exterior will increase its value. But there are some important things to keep in mind.

If you're thinking about selling your home, you might want to repaint areas that look especially worn, dull or chipped so your house looks fresh and new to potential buyers. On the other hand, it’s possible some potential buyers will repaint the home upon moving in. So if you have a limited budget, your money (and time) might be better invested in other types of home projects, such as remodeling your bathroom or kitchen, installing new floors or fixing broken appliances

When in doubt, check with your realtor before making a final decision.

How often should you paint your walls?

You should repaint your home interior once every few years, depending on the condition of the current paint.

Paint on walls fades over time, regardless of the room — it could happen in a bedroom, kitchen, dining room, living room or bathroom. However, paint that is exposed to more dirt, particularly flat or matte paint textures, may need repainting more frequently.

Areas of the bathroom or kitchen that routinely get touched may show signs of collecting dirt and grease over time. These would require more frequent painting.

If you're ready to repaint the walls in your home, get free estimates from the best painters near you.

How long does it take to paint a room?

The length of time it takes to paint a room varies, depending on a couple of factors. For example, the size of the job makes a difference. With a small bedroom, or with only a wall or two that have to be painted, the job can be done in half a day. Larger jobs take longer.

Also, if there are several different colors being used, the job may take longer, as one may have to dry before the other is applied. A 12-by-12 room with one color may take a morning. With multiple colors, the job may stretch into the afternoon.

Before you hire an interior painter near you, ask them how long it will take to paint the room(s) in your home.

Do you tip painters?

Yes, it’s best practice to tip house painters if you’re pleased with their work. Painters perform detailed, skilled work that can last for many years, if not decades.

Tipping house painters is good etiquette. You can base the tip on the size of the crew, and request the amount to be evenly divided. Or, you can leave a tip based on the size of the job and leave it up to the foreman to decide how it is distributed among the crew. Sometimes — especially with big projects — the painters on the job change during the course of the project, so it’s often customary to leave one tip for the whole job.

Jordan and his team did a great job! We were in process of purchasing a house and wanted to paint the interior prior to moving in. Jordan met us at the house on closing day and started painting the next day. They painted the walls, trim, doors and some ceilings in 3 1/2 days. We are very happy with the quality of work and the willingness to work with our schedule. We will be hiring them again for future exterior painting. Great job!

Frank Faircloth is the best! I hired someone (known to me) to paint my condo while I was a way for a long weekend. He claimed he could paint and had painted a lot homes etc. Well, when I got home my condo was a disaster. The worst paint job I have ever seen. There was paint on the ceiling, the trim was half painted, paint on my furniture, and so much more. It was just awful and I was so distraught over this. My son posted pics on thumbtack and within 10 minutes Frank called and came over to look at my place within the hour. Even he was surprised at the paint job. We came to an agreement and scheduled an appointment for Frank to come and clean up, fix, repair, repaint my entire condo. I am 100% amazed at the fantastic job that Frank did. He was wonderful and kind. He worked all day to repair the paint job in my place and make me happy. I am very happy. I will recommend Frank to anyone. I wish I would have known him prior. If you need a paint job done. You should call Frank immediately, he is detailed, clean, and caring of your home and people. He has fair and reasonable rates too! Thank you so much Frank!

Ed & Karen did a great job painting our son's room and new baby girls nursery. They caught a problem with the paint color in our son's room that allowed us to get just the shade we really needed without having to pay for more paint or labor. They showed real attention to detail and did great work with bright colors.

I requested that Nick paint my whole house in the few days it was vacant (before I moved in). Previous paint jobs were pretty bad, so I knew it was going to take a lot of work. He not only did a fantastic job with everything, he also took on a few extra paint projects I requested, and everything was done on time! I'm very happy with how everything turned out.

Joshua and Victor did a superior job! We weren’t sure the walls could be saved with just paint, but they all look brand new! They painted the entire 1620 sq ft in a couple of days with all of our belongings in the way. We did do most of the patching ourselves as there were hundreds of nail holes, but Josh made sure the holes were sanded properly. We are extremely pleased with the work and the price!!!
