The girls were able to help me out over Thanksgiving with less than a week's notice! They set up a time for an intro to meet me/my pet, go through an initial checklist and questions/requests, and then they texted me an update each day!

Mary is fantastic! She took care of all our pets which includes 4 cats, a dog and turtle for a week while on vacation. She spent time with them multiple times a day and gave us updates and sent pictures while we were gone. Our dog is very nervous when we leave and she really warmed up to Mary. We have had multiple sitters over the past few years but by far she has been the best. I would highly recommend her. Also it was a plus having her since she also does house cleaning. We come home from vacation to a clean house and happy pets!!

Francie watched 5 dogs in our house and did a fabulous job. She loves dogs. She kept us well-informed and shared pictures of their adventures. I would definitely ask her to dog sit again.

We are always able to get away for a few days or a week without worry with Trisa caring for our two boys. They get tons of attention, snuggles, walks and love, barely noticing our absence. We come home to happy and healthy pets. I recommend Trisa for your pet sitting/walking needs. She is competent, caring, trustworthy, and fair. Do.yourself and your pets a favor and place them in the care of Crate Escape Indy. Then enjoy your time away!

About

I live on a small hobby farm north of Indy with goats, pigs, chickens, dogs, and cats. Over 15 years work experience at dog daycares, veterinary clinics, and grooming salons has given me a well rounded background caring for animals. I work in animal welfare as an animal care supervisor, which involves being responsible for the care of hundreds of animals a day. I have fostered animals for numerous local rescue organizations and shelters. I am passionate about animal nutrition and have owned an online natural pet supply business and am working on building a storefront for a pet supply shop. I have taken care of animals my entire life and have built a career around it. My background in veterinary medicine has given me knowledge on what to do and look for if a dog is sick, injured, or overheating. You can feel comfortable while you are away knowing your pet is in good hands! I can look after any type of animal or walk any breed. It is important for me to know any special instructions for the animal as well as any medical or behavioral needs. It is beneficial to learn your pet's routine in order to keep them comfortable and less stressed while you are away. All details can be discussed during your complimentary home visit.

About

This is a family run business which I believe makes it more personable. I put my heart and soul into my work. The thing that all of my clients point out is how their pets seem so much more relaxed upon first meeting. "Wow! They never act that way with strangers! They usually bark like crazy or go hide." It took me awhile to figure out what that was because I had no idea why it's always been that way. I now know it's my real compassion, relaxed energy, and empathy. It all comes naturally. And as my business continues grow, I will only look for people with the same natural gifts to join my team.

About

I have worked in vet offices as well as a boarding facility. Because of all of my experience with animals, I am comfortable even with aggressive pets. I will do whatever I can to ensure your pet feels comfortable and safe in my care.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
