I didn't hire Rockwell Remodeling to do my work, but Tim was great to work with. He was professional, helpful, and very responsive via text, call, & email. I hope to hire Rockwell Remodeling for future projects.

Mike Goldman is an outstanding professional. Mike brings over 20 years of hands on experience to building and repair projects. His dedication to the work had him fixing a drywall problem for me within 24 hours of being hired. His work for perfection included insuring proper paint and pattern matches. Mike was protective of the carpets using drop-clothes and ensuring no spills, He cleaned up thoroughly after himself, even leaving paint rollers and containers clean and ready to use again. Mike is # 1 on my speed dial for all future build and repair needs. Thank you Mike!!!

We did not know any flooring remodelers in the area. We found Ralph Severson on Thumbtack. Not only did he give us a reasonable price, his work was outstanding. I would recommend him if you need any type of remodeling.

This company came to my house and gave me a price on tearing the drywall off my garage ceiling and hauling it away. I accepted their offer, which was much cheaper than anyone else would do it for. They came back when promised and did a excellent job and cleaned up the mess when they got done. I wish there were more contractors out there like this company. Thanks again for a job well done!!

Worked with me on budget and items of the project I wanted to do myself. Helped advise and direct our project to keep us within budget and use our space as wisely as possible. Great communication on project goals and no hidden cost on materials. I plan on using Jeremy every time I can afford to or have a project out of my skill set. The finished tile shower with multiple heads is amazing and constructed to a quality of perfection I am not used to seeing from contractors. I would recommend him to any of ky relatives or close friends. ( In the photo the ceiling is intentionally left undone for me to do some electrical work)

I recently purchased a home and after being taken by an unscrupulous contractor,Divine Development came in and saved the day. I cannot say enough good things about this company. They go above and beyond to get your work done in a timely manner. And the work is done very well. I've worked with them on two home projects, flooring ,and just recently had them do my kitchen remodel. I priced out the big box stores, as well as other smaller companies ,and Divine Development hands down had the best prices. They listened to what I wanted and my vision for the space ,and my kitchen turned out beautiful. If you are need quality work at a great price give this company a call .You wont be disappointed.

He did a great job on building my 14x14 deck on the back of my house. He was very professional, honest, dependable, on time, and organized. He is a bit of a perfectionist, which is ok with me because I'm sure things will get done right. Would definitely recommend him to anyone looking to hiring a contractor for their home or business.

Colston General Contractors helped us a great deal when we had an insurance claim. They went above and beyond our expectations. If we had a question about anything, Tim answered it. If we had any issues, Tim took care of it. Colston also backs up their work with a 1 year warranty. I would definitely recommend them to do any home repairs or remodeling.

LeePaul Services did a fabulous job of removing multiple layers of wallpaper and repairing the walls.  They also repaired the ceiling where a hole had been cut in the ceiling to repair a leak.  They did an amazing job of matching the texture to a point that you could not tell that the ceiling had ever been damaged or repaired. They did a great job painting – we had them paint walls and trim.  We also had them perform exterior work. They also replaced some vinyl siding that had been damaged and repaired some wooden columns. James put forth extra effort to research the best option of how to repair or replace the columns. He provided us with cost and time estimates of each option to help us make the best decision.   Their pricing was extremely competitive. We had 4 contractors quote the work we wanted performed. LeePaul Services was almost half of the highest big. It was not the lowest bid, but the lowest contractor required us to wait several months to schedule.   The did go beyond their original estimated time, but not their original cost estimate.  They are nice people to work worth with and they try to please the customer.

I do decks, pool decks, covered porches, fencing, vinyl siding, concrete, gazebos, remodeling (inside and out), roofing, floor replacement, custom handrails, and handicap ramps. I also do any storm damage work that needs to be done. I am very detail oriented, and I take pride in what I do. I have great craftsmanship and professionalism. I will give a quote and work with customers with all of their needs. I do have pictures and plenty of references.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why should you hire a contractor?

Hiring a general contractor is a good idea for many remodeling projects. Home renovation contractors have a broad range of skills to manage, coordinate and complete a project. They should help make sure your project comes in on time and within your budget as they hire and supervise all the necessary subcontractors, including electricians and plumbers. They also handle procuring all the materials required for your job. Some homeowners look to save money by acting as their own contractor, but an experienced home renovation contractor is worth the cost. They should know local building codes, be able to pull all necessary permits, and work with inspectors to make sure the construction meets local codes. Also, because they get professional discounts, they can typically buy materials at a better price than you can; better prices on materials and labor save you money, and make up for at least a percentage of the cost of the contractor.

    What is a general contractor?

When starting a home remodel or new construction project, you will probably hire a general contractor. A general contractor is a professional who is qualified to take a set of building plans and construct them as outlined. The general contractor may help perform the day-to-day building, or they may just hire workers and oversee all the work activities. In either case, the job of the general contractor is to see that your project gets built.

When you have a building project, ask for bids from various contractors. The bids tell you how much each will charge and what their scope of work will be. Once you have selected a bid, you sign a contract with that general contractor outlining the specifics of the project and the milestones during the project when they will receive payment installments. Once the contract is official, the general contractor will bring in their crew to begin construction. The contractor will manage the workers and subcontractors (anyone who doesn’t work directly for their company but that they need to outsource, like a marble installation pro), order all the materials, obtain work permits, and confirm that all the workers and subcontractors are completing their projects as planned. They typically handle all the payments to the workers and subcontractors, and send you invoice. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.  If you are organized and competent to oversee construction projects, and are able to make sure everything is being built properly and meeting code, it’s possible you can be your own general contractor.

How do you choose a commercial general contractor?

A commercial contractor provides similar services as a residential general contractor but specializes in working with large-scale projects for businesses, schools, nonprofits, governments and development firms. When researching commercial general contractors, review their portfolio of work and confirm they have ample experience working in the area you need. For example, if you are building a small strip mall, ask if the contractors have experience successfully incorporating all the needed elements such as a parking lot, meeting ADA requirements, accessing the proper permits, and completing work on time.

Once you’ve identified several qualified candidates, request bids for your project and then compare the scope of work with your needs and budget. Your commercial general contractor should oversee design, permitting, construction, materials purchase, and adherence to building code and zoning regulations, as well as sticking to an agreed-upon budget and schedule. It’s important to establish clear communication with your future commercial general contractor, as this will mean a smoother process for everyone. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.

Do I need a contractor for a kitchen remodel?

A kitchen remodel is one of the most important investments you can make in your home, and it’s critical to get the details right; that’s where a home renovation contractor comes in. A minor remodel usually includes new cabinet faces and hardware, replacement appliances, and paint, while an extensive job may enlarge the kitchen’s square footage, install new cabinets or an island, change the layout, and lay new tile or hardwood floors. Any renovation that includes filing permits, construction, or electrical or plumbing work is best completed by an experienced contractor who knows local codes.

How much will it cost to remodel my house?

The cost to remodel a home is highly variable — size and scope of the project, quality of materials, and the number of subcontractors required to complete the job all affect the total cost. The average national cost of a home renovation project is $13,500. The national average per-square-foot cost of a remodel ranges from $25 to $100. Nationally, kitchen and bathroom remodels are the most popular types of projects, in part because they typically have the highest return on investment when the home is sold. The national average cost of a major kitchen remodel ranges from $25,000 to $62,000, while the average bathroom remodel tends to cost $6,000 to $18,000. In addition to materials and labor costs, many remodeling project costs include permit fees, which, average $900 or more, depending on your location.
