Laura is very proficient with coaching English as a second language. She will teach you the skills to interact with people (e.g.: in your line of business when you are in their country) who speak other languages. The skills include learning to be comfortable with the second language, and not just with the words themselves.

I have been working with Victoria Reeves for 4 years now and I must say that her teaching/help is outstanding! Not only have I been able to improve my writing skills grammatically, my vocabulary has increased tremendously. Her personality is very fun as well, so whenever you're taking classes, you won't feel bored or ready to fall asleep. That is one of my favorite parts about being tutored by her. It breaks the image of a traditional, dreadful tutor. You get to learn for someone with a bubbly, lively personality while getting studies done. I definitely recommend her!

Hi! I am Irina V. Nikitina, Associate Professor at the School of Interpreting and Translation of the State Linguistics University of Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. Extensively working in the field of translation and interpreting, I have engaged Marina Sokolova in many translation projects as a freelance translator and editor in both Russian and English. Marina has excellent qualifications required for the job. With MA in Second Language Studies (USA) and English Language Pedagogy (UK), as well as such well-established certificates as CELTA (Cambridge English Language Teacher for Adults), Current Trends in Theory and Practice of Language Teaching, she makes a truly valuable contribution to a solid team of translators that I closely cooperate with. In every project Marina has been part of or has lead, she has demonstrated a set of qualities that are truly valuable for a professional: authentic and idiomatic language, broad outlooks, inquisitiveness, accuracy, commitment to deadlines, meticulousness, flexibility and responsiveness. Marina has deep knowledge and wide experience in the following areas: business correspondence, general documentation, academic, fiction. Her translations are always proofread and never require double check. I frequently address Marina to get her expert opinion on various linguistic matters both in Russian and English and find her approach to the job of translation and editing truly passionate.

    About

OUR MISSION To enrich the American education system, helping children discover the world through language, culture, and connections. OUR VISION Language Adventures will change the way children see our multilingual world by fostering an early love and curiosity for other languages and cultures through innovative and engaging education methods. OUR TEAM Language Adventures teachers all have degrees in education, language, or both. They speak Spanish natively and have extensive experience in the classroom with children of all ages. Our curriculum team uses only the most recent research in early childhood education and language acquisition, as well as their many years of experience in full-immersion classroom settings. Preschool Adventure classes For children ages three through five, we capitalize on their increased desire for independence. At this age, children are able to learn through social play. This is why Preschool Adventure classes focus on role-play activities, competitions, and collaborative projects. Our small class sizes allow our native-Spanish-speaking teachers to engage the group as a whole, as well as address the individual needs of each child through one-on-one interaction. Elementary Adventure classes Kids ages five to eight still love being silly, but they also crave guidance in reading and writing as well as instructions for more complex games and puzzles. For this age group, we strike the perfect balance between academic challenges and getting kids to giggle, all while immersing them in the Spanish language. Preteen Adventure classes As children approach the end of the “window of opportunity” for acquiring a language naturally, they require a slightly more focused method of language instruction. In these classes, we tackle the written language and a wide variety of vocabulary and grammar structures without ever resorting to instruction in English or rote memorization. Our Private Spanish Classes Private classes are a great way to ensure that your child is achieving their specific goals with a high level of attention and interaction from a native speaker at the most convenient location for you. Our world-class teachers who excel in larger groups also make some of the best one-on-one or small group tutors out there. Spanish Classes at your school It couldn’t be easier to add a Language Adventures program to your school’s curriculum. Our native Spanish teachers seamlessly integrate themselves into your school’s community and can provide as many classroom hours as your school needs. All they need from you is a place to teach. Spanish Excellence at your School Here are only a few of the benefits of working with Language Adventures to meet your school’s language learning goals: Tailored to your school We bring our innovative curriculum and customize it to fit your school’s needs. Our programs can be added right into the school day or offered as an extracurricular enrichment activity before school, after school, or during lunch. We use a specific method that we adapt to each class’s age range, size, and skill level. Only the best teachers All of our Spanish teachers are native-speakers with extensive experience in early childhood education. Since our entire team uses Language Adventures’ research-based curriculum, each teacher is able to focus on delivering lessons that meet each child’s needs and result in consistent impressive results. Helpful support staff Set up a meeting today with a member of our School Support Team, and we’ll help you determine what kind of program will most benefit your school. Then, we can schedule an in-school demonstration with one of our fantastic Spanish teachers, so even before committing to Language Adventures, you’ll be just as confident as we are in our program’s success. How to Bring Language Adventures to your School. First step: Determine what you want for your school. A full-time, dedicated Spanish teacher delivering the Language Adventures curriculum to all of your students? One hour a week of instruction for each class? An optional before or after school program, so the language is conveniently available for interested families, even if there isn’t room in the school day? Second Step: Get in touch with our School Support Team, who will help finalize a program proposal for your school and match you with the best Spanish teacher to suit your needs. Third Step: Get to know your new Spanish teacher with an in-school demonstration or at your first Language Adventures class! Final Step: Watch your students rise above the crowd with improved reading and math scores, higher confidence, and smiles on their faces.

    About

Learning a new language can be challenging when the content you're learning does not apply to your professional background or interests. My teaching philosphy focuses and considers the students' likes, hobbies and everyday life to make sure the lesson ties in with their lives; thus, allowing for knowledge retention and student motivation to learn a new language. I also utilize a Total Physical Approach of teaching, where technology, art, music and visuals are used for a more relaxed way of learning. In short, the students' life is what makes up most of the lesson content, for better engagement in the lesson.

I got a degree in languages. I love to teach kids and make the learning process fun! I'm fluent in English and Spanish.

    About

It was in my 6th grade introductory Spanish class, where I developed a great passion for the language. From the start of our very first lesson, my love for Spanish was automatic. Never did I anticipate how much of an impact this passion would have on my future not only as a student but also as an individual. Following my graduation from high school, I studied abroad in Cuernavaca, Mexico, at the Cuauhnahuac Institute of Languages and Cultures for 3 weeks. While in Cuernavaca, I lived with a lovely host family, and therefore had the opportunity to advance my Spanish language skills even when not in the classroom. In college, I traveled to Lima, Peru, to study abroad for a full academic year. In Peru's capital, I was fortunate enough to live with two different host families and study at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, where I attended classes with Peruvian students. Although a tutor's academic background is important, I believe that the ability to be an effective listener is invaluable. For this reason, patience is my number one priority as a tutor. I hope to not only assist a student in learning a new language but also to ignite an enthusiasm for the subject, particularly for those whose difficulty with the language has caused anxiety or disinterest. Despite the fact that a tutor has the background knowledge, I will always see myself as a student, as there is always something new to learn! This makes teaching exciting and refreshing, as there is always something about the language to discover or rediscover. Please visit me on Wyzant to view my tutoring profile where you can find my Spanish certification, passed background check, and reasonable pricing.

My rates are as follows: - $40/hr. at a student's home within 10 miles of Wood Dale, IL - $20/hr. at my studio in Wood Dale - $15/30-minute lesson via Skype I am a guitar teacher with over 10 years of experience teaching all different styles of music, including blues, folk, acoustic, funk, ska, rock, metal, melodic, country, classical, punk, alternative, and various other melodies. I have played concerts all over the state of Illinois, and I have taught many students throughout the years. I teach beginning, intermediate, and advanced players. I am very passionate at what I do, and I will guide you through the proper steps in becoming a great guitar player. Playing music takes a lot of time and patience as well as a lot of practice playing by yourself and in front of people. I am very relaxed and motivated to help my students learn, and I will guide you through everything. I would prefer that students bring their own guitars, so that you would be more comfortable playing their own instrument. If you can't or do not have one, I have guitars here that you may use but during our sessions only. Check out my video. With a lot of practice and a lot of studying, I can show you how to play like a pro and have fun! Lesson Details In my curriculum, students will start off by learning the basics of the guitar, knowing the parts and accessories and so forth. Then, we will move on to tuning and perfect pitch. As we move on, students will learn how to build and maintain a rhythm. Learning how to play chords is essential, and we will be going through chord progressions and how to recognize and memorize the various chords. Furthermore, I will be showing students how to read tabs and write music. I will be showing students the different types of scales there as well as the keys that they are in for those who want to become soloists. I will also be teaching different techniques that are incorporated with tapping on the fretboard as well as various other techniques. All of these lessons will be taught in our private sessions, and each student will receive homework assignments, so that he/she can go home and practice what he/she has learned. I will be having tests later on, in which I would ask you to play one of your favorite songs. With enough time spent practicing, you can become a master of your instrument. Studio Equipment Basement studio: amps, guitars, wah pedals, music stands, guitar picks, and music sheets. Travel Equipment I have an amp, wires, picks, guitars, gig bag, case, music sheets, picks, and music stands. Specialties Teachers marked as a student favorite have taught a minimum of 25 lessons and have received the highest feedback rating from students. My styles include rhythm and blues, rock, funk, pop, classical, country, classic rock, metal, thrash, alternative, punk rock, folk, and various other melodies.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

How much do Spanish tutors charge?

Nationally, the average cost for a Spanish tutor ranges from $30 to $40 per hour. The cost for a Spanish tutor can vary depending on whether you choose private instruction or group lessons. Geographic location can affect cost; tutors in expensive cities and pricier regions command higher rates than in rural areas and small towns. The experience and education of the Spanish tutor will also affect their rates. For adult education, many people learning Spanish choose to join a Spanish school with tutors who teach group classes and also offer private tutoring for students. Typically these schools charge a monthly tuition that gives students access to a set number of classes per week, with private tutoring available at an additional cost. One example of an average cost is a monthly tuition of $200, which includes five 90-minute group lessons per month. Monthly tuition can vary depending on the school and the teachers. Short-term workshops are also a way to learn Spanish. Students may work with a Spanish tutor and group of other students at their skill level for a short period of time. One example of an average price is $100 for an eight-week course, with one 60-minute group class per week.
