As a fellow wedding & video industry professional, I can honestly say that Name Sake Pictures does a fantastic job! I use them regularly to assist in video shoots and also for post-production work on larger projects. Mauricio and Bobbi run an excellent company and I'm blessed to now consider them friends as well as business partners. Mauricio is deeply passionate about video quality and truly focuses on story-telling which is an absolute essential quality in a videographer. The quality of his productions is always top-notch and I'm truly appreciative of his work ethic.

Grace is HANDS DOWN the most AMAZING person! We decided on a videographer kinda late in the wedding planning game and our planner Katy (with Coastal Coordinating) recommended Grace. Leading up the wedding, working with Grace was also a pleasure. I had a million and two questions to ask and she was always prompt and professional with her responses. She does outstanding work and you will not be disappointed with your video. We got our wedding video back this morning and it was better than the preview could even let me imagine! It's absolutely perfect in every way! A few of my friends have even commented that they didn't even realize there was a videographer at the wedding! And she was there the entire time! She did such a great job at capturing the moment while not being obvious to the guests! Or even to myself! The video was just beautiful, I really couldn't ask for a better wedding keepsake. Now to find a way to have her at all of my big life events! Thank you again Grace!!

Rick is a fantastic photographer and videographer. I have hired him to work on several projects with me and his professionalism and quality is one of many reasons he's one of the first numbers I call when a project comes up. He is always prompt, courteous, and his prices are extremely fair. I would highly recommend Rick for any number of projects, be it portrait photography, wedding photography, or recording special events.

We hired Adventures in HD Production do our family portraits and we had an AWESOME experience. The shoot was relaxed, fun and professional. I am pregnant and Caitee really helped put me at ease and gave us some beautiful shots of our family. The turn around time on the photos was very quick, which has not always been my experience with other photographers. I loved our session so much, I hired Adventures to do my professional portrait, which also turned out great! Our baby is due this February and we have also booked Caitee to do our newborn photo shoot. Can't say enough about Adventures in HD Production! Wish we knew about them for our wedding photos and videography! Look forward to working with them again.

There are not enough words to describe how amazing it was to work with Pine and Perfume. They truly captured every special moment and little detail of our special day. Our wedding video is the most beautiful piece of work I have ever seen. Especially because they personalized it just for us. From the Disney music throughout the video that went with our theme, to showing candid shots of us with our MOHs and Best Man throughout the day while they were giving their speeches to the Disney castle as the end credit and everything in between, I am so happy that I have this amazing video to look back upon. Every time I watch it, it takes me back to that day. Thank you guys for all your work to make such an unique memorable video. I would recommend Pine and Perfume to everyone!!!

We used Adam as a videographer for our wedding and he was absolutely AMAZING! I chose Adam because my sister had hired him for her wedding a few years back and I was absolutely in love with his work. Leading up to the big day, he was very responsive, professional and easy to coordinate with. On the actual day, Adam showed up with a huge smile and a very calming demeanor. He took the time to get shots from the bridesmaid's room, and then headed over to the groomsmen's room as well. I could tell her was very focused and was working very hard to capture details. But it wasn't until I received my wedding trailer that I knew exactly how good of a job he did. Let me start by saying my wedding trailer was 16 minutes long and every single second of it is perfect! I thought it was my final video because of how many moments he captured! I have watched my video at least 45 times. On the plus side, he got it to me only three weeks after my wedding. The video captures ALL the feels. It is completely insane how much time and effort you can end up spending to plan your big day... and it flies by in what feels like minutes. But having these moments captured in a video really lets you go back in time and relive the best day of your life! He captured laughs, cries, selfies, preparation, details... everything! I would HIGHLY recommend using Adam as your videographer, he was worth every penny!

I'm not even sure where to begin, working with Jonah was incredible. My husband and I could not be happier with the results, whenever watch the video, we are reminded of the emotions of the entire day. Jonah was such a sweetheart, he made sure to work with our photographer before the ceremony so that they were both on the same page. My photographer (been in the business for a long while) told me how professional Jonah is, and I noticed it as well. He was out of the way when he needed to be, but got all the shots I wanted and he needed for a great video, he mingled with the family quite nicely while we were doing formal shots. I have nothing but great things to say about him and his work. If you are contemplating whether or not to get a videographer, Seriously. DO IT! You can tell that Jonah puts his heart and soul into these videos and into his work. If I ever have a need for a videographer, I'd hire him again in a heartbeat. You will not be disappointed.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
