I had a one on one session with Tom and it was fantastic. At first I thought I was pretty ok with my speech outline before I talked to him. It wasn't until we talked about the structure of my speech that I realized my speech lacked focus. Long story short, we completely restructured my speech together and Tom gave me extremely great insights on how to plan out my speech before I even begin writing it. This is knowledge something that I will take it to the heart and will never forget.

Jennifer was easy to work with, very professional and helpful. If I had a question, she was immediately responsive and even attached an article for me to read that pertained directly to one of my questions. An excellent value for the amount of work she did on both resume and cover letter. I have already referred Jennifer to one of my colleagues!

P. R. Cheek has helped me numerous times on my colllege essays. She was very professional and provided assistance to ensure my papers were cohesive, flowed in a way to make sense, and were on topic. She would tell me what to eliminate from the paper and how to add more descriptive yet pertinent details to make sure my ideas got across. She would explain feedback to make sure you could understand your paper and your voice was in the paper. I got all A’s on the papers she helped write and still use her to this day!

Coach Lynn Johnson is excellent. I am an older worker over 50 who needed to make a transition from my career. She researched and identified transferable skills in a career that is lucrative and enjoyable. She wrote my cover letter, resume and coached me. I got hired by 4 offices and had only applied to 5! This has changed my life! She is the best at what she does! No wonder she has so many awards for being the best Executive/Life Coach by Forbes!

Laurie has edited many of my documents over the past 20 + years. She is professional, talented, creative, and has an excellent eye for detail. She has provided substantive copyediting and proof-reading for many of my published articles and professional papers. She also developed and regularly updates my PowerPoint presentations and hand-outs, that I use at conferences throughout the US and Europe, often adding Excel charts, or suggesting diagrams and exhibits, to more clearly describe a concept. Her work has also included reorganizing and editing my professional resume and detailed application, which helped me receive a Fulbright Scholarship. She is responsive, and diligent to make sure it meets all the requirements. I highly recommend Laurie Cohen for editorial services.

Nancy Halsey has written grants for our organization for almost 10 years. She has exceptional writing and editing skills. After Nancy wrote a particular grant, the foundation called me to say it was the best well-written grant they had received. I have never received a phone call like that before. Nancy is professional and honest; she uses research and wisdom when writing grants and talking with employees. I highly recommend her for any writing opportunities that you may have. L. I can't say enough about how Amazing Julie's writing skills are! I hadn't had much luck with landing interviews... That is until I found Julie! She worked with me to develop a resume that just blew my mind when I saw it. She pulled out what I knew was in me, but couldn't put into words or articulate well in my old resume. Within two days of sending out my amazing new resume, I was contacted by multiple companies - including Apple, my dream job. I interviewed and landed the job. I can honestly say that I know they wouldn't have looked at my resume had it not been for Julie's fresh style and amazing writing. Do yourself a favor and let her help you! You won't regret it!

    About

I provide the services to local home owner associations (HOA) that the volunteer members dread doing like producing updated newsletters, creating and managing community Facebook pages with news and updated community pertinent information, organizing community events and fund raisers and picking up trash in the common areas of the community. Yes, even picking up trash. It's a dirty job but someone has to do it! Everyone that owns a home wants their community to be one that they can be proud to live in and managing a community and keeping it safe and beautiful requires alot of work and volunteers but let's face it, the homeowners that typically volunteer to serve on the board are almost always go-getters that are stretched way too thin as it is so that's where I come in! There's no reason to let things in your community go undone because you don't have the manpower or the time needed to get things accomplished. As long standing HOA board member myself, I know how hard it is to rally the troops together for the good of the whole community. Whether its creating an attractive quarterly newsletter, setting up a community Facebook page or writing the Welcome to the Community Handbook, I can say what you want to say in an effective and professional manner. My rates are affordable and will help take the pressure off board members that really need to concentrate of making the proper decisions on behalf of the community and not writing content. Some of my clients include Armstrong Management, Gables I of Gunston Corner, Pine Forest, Village of Gun Springs. Glen II.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

    • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
    • Strong writing skills.
    • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
    • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
    • Expertise in your target area.
    • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

    • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
    • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
    • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
    • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.
