Stephanie is the most reliable pet sitter I have found. I love her and my pets love her(dog & cat). She is dependable, caring, prompt, loving and always available in an emergency. I will not use anyone else. She has stayed at my home for vacations when we weren't able to take the pets along. Very trustworthy. I have never had any problems with Stephanie and I highly recommend her to those people who want their pets to have the attention that they themselves would give to them. She treats your pets like they are her own and you don't find that with every pet walker/sitter.

We had a wonderful experience with Thumbtack and Shatiya. Our longtime pet-sitters left town. We gave the website a try and quickly made the connection to Petstigious. We liked the team's experience, and rates were competitive. The initial meeting was helpful, and we felt confident while we were gone. It was fun and adorable to get pictures and updates. We know the cats were happy and well taken care of. Thank you so much! Until next time, Stacia and Brian (+B & B)

I started riding at Pond View Stables 9 years ago when I was 7. Thinking back on all those years I cannot think of one thing that I wish mrs Joan would have done differently. She has shaped me as a rider, horsewoman, and person. The horses there are great, and can teach a wide variety of skills. I show every so often, and mrs Joan is so supportive. I can't think of another barn I'd rather ride at.

Vicky was great! She not only took great care with all of our animals, she handled my anxiety well! We received photos and notes every day with updates of the animals and how they were doing. I told her not to worry about one of my super shy cats because if she tried to find her, it would stress her out more than just being left alone...well, the first day I get a picture of that cat just chillin with Vicky! When we came home we were greeted with an, "Oh...it's you. You're back" bored look from the animals...that was GREAT! I knew she kept them so happy they were not pining away for us or stressed out. I had used another pet sitter for seven years due to convenience, but the animals seemed stressed when we returned. With Vicky, everything was great.

I have held off on hiring a pet sitter for a long time, soliciting the help of friends and family...after reading Rays reviews, I decided to take a chance and I've been SO happy I did! He makes sure I have nothing to worry about when I'm out of town - often sends a picture of my sweet girls and a note about how they are! He does a meeting beforehand and takes extensive notes so he gets everything exactly right. I would recommend him to ANYONE!

Nikki spent a great deal of time in our initial interview asking questions and meeting my two cats. I have an IBD kitty so I am happy to find a pet sitter with veterinary tech experience who can administer medication. When I returned from my trip both cats looked happy and well cared for. Thank you, Nikki!

Jane took care of our FIVE little fur-bearing family members while we were away for a week. She is by far the best pet-sitter we have ever had! She started with an initial meeting in our home, which was incredibly thorough. It's clear she has a real love for and understanding of dogs, and real skill handling behavioral issues with pets. It's also clear now that we've had her support that the full range of services she offers is delivered with the same gentle, insightful, and steady care that every pet owner wants for their four-legged loved ones. She also retrieved our mail and made sure the house was safe while we were away--a real bonus! Jane provides daily written updates, which were incredibly helpful (she also identified an issue with our bathroom ceiling that would have taken us a few days to notice after we came back). She even found our shy guy, Skinner, every day, even though he is very good at hiding from strangers! We returned home to a happy, snuggly, healthy menagerie that had been expertly cared for. It was such a comfort knowing we had reliable, thoughtful care while we were away. We'll definitely reach out to Jane again the next time we're out of town. Strong endorsements from both of us humans and our furry five-some!

Kim is very professional and sweet, she took care of my kitty cat and chinchilla while we were away for our wedding. I have an incredibly needy cat but he wasn't super desperate when we got home so I could tell he had enough attention. We then used Kim to check on the house and chinchilla while away for our honeymoon. I usually worry a lot about my animals and can get a bit anxious but she was very understanding and I felt relieved to have her with them. I left my cat at a friend's house for our honeymoon but I think if we go on another long trip I will just ask Kim to come back. She has even brought in packages for us and made an extra stop to turn off my ridiculous house alarm so the beeping noise wouldn't bother my chinchilla. Highly recommend. (Oh and she is one of the only pet sitters we have had who isn't scared of the chinchilla. I can tell she is a real animal lover)

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32.
