Crissi has been taking care of my cats (and watching my house!) whenever I go away for many years now. With her knowledge, overall capability and degree of integrity, I am able to relax and enjoy my vacation, knowing all will be taken care of. I rely completely on Crissi for pet sitting and can recommend her without hesitation.

This company has been horrible. The first assigned sitter canceled for personal reasons. Fine, life happens. Not a big deal. Second sitter comes, she seems fearful of big dogs. Third assigned sitter has been M.I.A. She is supposed to be at my house watching my dogs right now. The company's response is "we don't have a status update right now. " Why am I paying almost 90.00 per night ?!?

Jodie has been fantastic with the information and training she provides. She is very organized with her puppy classes and provides additional information on puppy care at the end of each class. She also came to our home for an individual training session and was very insightful and helpful with tips on house training and providing tips on our puppy setup, schedule, and obedience training. She has been very helpful and is clearly very experienced.

Brandon watched our dog and cats and was fantastic! They absolutely loved him and we felt really good about leaving them in his care. He took care of the animals and our house like his own. Would definitely use him again!

Highly recommended pet sitter. Shaki went above and beyond our expectations for taking care of our cats while we were out of town. She sent us videos and pictures of them to warm our hearts and pictures of all the completed duties around the house. She even watered our plants! We'll definitely be calling her again and recommending her to our friends/neighbors.

How do we love Melina? Let us count the ways! I don't often write long reviews like this, but she is worth it and we think every family with pets should have someone like Melina. First of all - we want the world to know about her! She truly cares about our pets, booking her is super convenient, and her service goes beyond pet care. She looks out for our house and plants, loads the sheets in the washer when she leaves, and manages the trash bins if we're away on trash pick-up days. The last time she was here, she took the kitchen trash out for us. We have a dog door and fenced yard, and she even picked up after the dogs the last time she was here (totally not a requirement for us!). She doesn't complain if our cat has an accident, and she's never charged us more for the little extras. We have 2 large dogs and a cat, and she always asks questions if she notices something is amiss. My husband and I tend to be last minute planners (we do the best we can, and I don't recommend it!), but have never once had an issue booking Melina when we're in a bind - that's because even when she's got a full schedule, she does what she can to work around her other commitments to fit us in. We've actually only met her in person one time for the initial meeting a couple of years ago. She makes it super easy, by being extremely responsive and using common and current technology - text message, email, Thumbtack, spreadsheets, and Venmo. She doesn't mind when I send long email updates or send a spreadsheet if we need to coordinate due to one or two-week long trips. She always sends an update and photos of the pets every time she arrives and leaves. Finally, she didn't originally have a frequency discount, but when we asked about it, she created one for us. Melina is a rockstar and comes highly recommended from a grateful pet family! Thank you so much, Melina!

Kim is very professional and sweet, she took care of my kitty cat and chinchilla while we were away for our wedding. I have an incredibly needy cat but he wasn't super desperate when we got home so I could tell he had enough attention. We then used Kim to check on the house and chinchilla while away for our honeymoon. I usually worry a lot about my animals and can get a bit anxious but she was very understanding and I felt relieved to have her with them. I left my cat at a friend's house for our honeymoon but I think if we go on another long trip I will just ask Kim to come back. She has even brought in packages for us and made an extra stop to turn off my ridiculous house alarm so the beeping noise wouldn't bother my chinchilla. Highly recommend. (Oh and she is one of the only pet sitters we have had who isn't scared of the chinchilla. I can tell she is a real animal lover)

Love them! We already used them twice and are very happy with the service they are providing while we are on vacation. Love to find the notes of how our cat Tigger was doing every day and how he responded to someone coming into our house. It has taken all the anxiety out of him when we travel as he knows he gets to stay in his home and will be taken care of. I also like that Cupid Pets will check on the house (mail, plants, trash) if needed and I found everything in good shape when we came back home. I highly recommend their service and I find their rated very reasonable for the love and care they give our cat.

Care for two indoor cats and two caged parakeets for a weekend This was the first time that we have used Debbie and this was the first time that these pets have been left since we got them four years ago We had a previous pet sitter experience a couple of years ago that was not good at all so we were hesitant about needing the service again.Debbie responded to our request very promptly on thumbtack and arranged for a meeting with us to discuss what we needed.she was very willing and eager and understanding with all of our requests. When we arrived home we were definitely not disappointed. Debbie exceeded our expectations. She was in touch with us via text message during the weekend each time that she came to the house to give us an update which we very much appreciated. When we arrived home we found the areas vacuumed the trash had been disposed of and everything was in order. She also had provided us with a very cute daily journal of each of her visits and more details as to what the pets were doing each time and how much they had eaten. Debbie even took care of refilling food containers on our front porch that we leave for the feral cats in the neighborhood. We would not hesitate to ask her back again to care for our pets and we highly recommend her to anyone in need of pet services. We have told Debbie that she could give our name and contact information to anyone who needed a reference

I am fairly cheap, normally about $10 an hour. I am just looking to get some extra money on the side, but I will work as hard as I can.

My house is probably the most challenging around for pet sitting. We have 3 dogs, 3 cats, 1 ferret, 1 iguana, and 1 bearded dragon. It's a lot of responsibility and Adam does wonderfully. Our most recent trip had us away for 1 week. We came back and the house was in perfect order and the animals looked happy, healthy, and relaxed. He sent us updates and pictures every day. We wouldn't think of using anyone else.

Orla was excellent when I had her come to my house to visit my cat for 5 days while I was away recently. She came for a pre-visit, to get acquainted with the kitty, and was there every day to feed and play with my cat, as well as change litter and water plants. She sent photos (even videos!) to let me know how everything was going. Very professional and sweet! I would definitely trust her in my home again, and recommend her very highly! Kelly (Boston)

My dog LOVES Jessica. She's watched him many times and he never is frightened to be left at her place (or left at my apt with her watching). She's a friend to all animals and hiring her would be a great decision. A+!

Linda and her husband house- and dog-sat for us for forty days. From the moment we met them we knew everything would be fine, and, indeed, the experience was perfect! The house, indoor plants and garden all look better than when we left, and I swear that our dog even seems better behaved! Linda provided regular updates while we were gone, even attaching pictures. We could not possibly recommend Linda and Dick more highly and hope very much that they will be able to help us again in the future.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is house sitting?

A house sitter watches your house while you are away for work or vacation, or if you have to be away for an extended period. House sitters can also provide pet-sitting services, staying in your home and caring for your pet while you are away. The house sitter can say overnight in your home while you’re gone, or stop by once a day to ensure everything is in order if your pet doesn’t need overnight supervision. Reptiles and most cats are just fine with daily visits and feeding.

House sitting provides major advantages to the homeowner. A regular presence in your house deters break-ins and theft. Home safety issues such as water leaks get noticed and dealt with right away, so you don’t come home to big problems. A house sitter can bring in your mail daily, care for your houseplants, and provide home safety and peace of mind.

How do I find a reliable house sitter?

House sitting can help keep your home safe and well cared for so you can be worry-free while you’re away for work or play. There are several steps you can take to make sure you hire a trustworthy house sitter and do your part to be a responsible host. One of the best ways to ensure a safe home is to hire a professional house sitter. Here are some key points to look for when hiring a house sitter:

  • Reviews and referrals: When searching for a house sitter, always read reviews. Previous experiences will indicate how the house sitter will care for your home while you’re away.
  • Contract: Sign a clearly written contract outlining services to be provided (e.g., mail in each day by 5 p.m.), the daily rate you are paying, and how long the services will be provided. You can also include any agreed-upon house rules in the written contract.
  • Your part: Leave important phone numbers (vet, emergency contact, etc.) and information on where to find emergency items like the circuit breaker and the fire extinguisher, and have a credit card on file with the veterinarian in case of emergencies if the house sitter is watching your pets.
