Top Rated String Quartets Around Ashburn, VA
I have used Alvin Smithson's services for over five years as a piano tuner, teacher and performer. I am always impressed with his skills, artistry and professionalism. Alvin first came to tune my 100-years old Steinway after it had been neglected for a number of years. He first examined the instrument, diagnosed what needed to be done and then proceeded with his expert tuning. Immediately after he was done and started playing, I was amazed at how good the piano sounded. Alvin explained that with a piano that hasn't been tuned or played in so many years, it will take some time to achieve its best form and sound for which it was built. A short time after, my wife started taking piano lessons from Alvin and as she started gaining proficiency in playing under his guidance, the piano itself gained a rich pleasing sound. Alvin paid close attention and adjusted notes or did a full tuning whenever needed. He also took the time to clean the strings and do minor technical adjustments. When a string needed to be replaced, Alvin recommended a technician from a highly reputable company. Overall, we owe it to his expertise to have the wonderful old piano do what it was built for by the Steinway masters. I should also mention that I heard some great musicians at venues where Alvin is the regular piano tuner. People who visit our house and hear our piano, or play it themselves, always compliment its sound. But the best comes when Alvin himself sits at the keyboard, whether at our house, at a social function or performing in the theater, it's such a joy to hear him play some great classical pieces as well as his own wonderful compositions. He is truly a very talented, sensitive and highly knowledgeable artist. And such a pleasant person, too. My wife and I feel fortunate to have Alvin give us the best piano sound to enjoy live music in our home. I would recommend him to anyone as piano tuner, teacher and overall musician.
We hired Kim's trio for our jazz soiree and they were excellent! Kim let us know a few days prior to the event that he couldn't make it, and gave us the option of canceling or having the trio w/ another pianist playing in his stead. We could have gotten another band altogether (three replied to our request on Thumbtack), but we went w/ his option of the substitute pianist and could not have been happier. The trio was fabulous, attendees from the young to the not so young loved all the tunes, and everyone had the best time. We are definitely putting Kim and his trio or quartet on our slate of events for 2018.
We hired Kaitlin, the violinist to play during our ceremony. It was a small wedding / short ceremony so we didn't need the quartet. I didn't get to really experience Kaitlin's performance because I was busy getting married, but there were rave reviews from the guests. She was easy to communicate with as far as planning went, she was punctual, and she did her job well. It was great to have live music playing- she really added a nice touch to the ceremony.
As an adult student with no music experience, I think that Christine does a good job breaking down the basics into something that can be easily followed. She is patient and will work to accommodate busy adult schedules. She recommended the Samuel Applebaum String Builder book; which I really like as it teaches the basic hand position along with the associated notes. Rather than learning to play by listening then learning the notes. Again she can tailor her lessons based on children or adults learning abilities.
We do gospel quartet style singing for concerts, church services, family reunions, weddings, birthday celebrations, outside events, etc.
Anita is an exceptional music teacher. She is very patient and knows much about music theory. She is inspirational and has a passion for music. I enjoy having her as my instructor and have learned much. I look forward to advancing in my music career in the future.
We are a jazz quartet, made of extremely talented Peabody Conservatory musicians. Our instrumentation is a saxophone, piano, upright bass, and drums. We play a wide range of music, from jazz to blues, to funk, and Latin, and can tailor our performance to your liking. We would love to play your next event/party!
Celeste performed at my dad's surprise birthday party a few years ago, and although my father was the guest of honor, she was the hit of the party. Guests, ranging 20 to 80 years old, still send me messages and approach me at church years later to tell me how much they enjoyed singing and dancing with Celeste and her fiddle. I can't wait to throw another party just so I can have an excuse to hire Celeste again.
DC Strings were great to work with! The team did an awesome job performing songs for solo and throughout the ceremony. I highly recommend this company for future weddings and special events.
my services are very professional you will be able to play a song the very first day
Strings for Christ played for my daughters wedding and did an incredible job. They are a very talented group of musicians and contributed making the wedding a once in a lifetime event.
Our son has benefited from Alan's instruction at the Anchorage Chamber Music Festival - summer intensive program for a full week in 2014 and 2015. He is an incredibly kind, patient and sincere individual who went out of his way to help our son's ability, technique and confidence. He was equally patient with we the parents who know very little about music, making us feel confident in guiding our son's musical education to date, and offering himself as someone we can contact with any questions about anything, any time. Alan is a wonderful role model for the type of human we hope our son to become; extremely talented yet so unassuming; obvious confidence yet with zero arrogance. His intonation is outstanding; you can single out his sweet tone when he is playing in chamber groups as we have had the privilege of attending more than eight performances. One final observation might be that he expresses sincere joy when playing music; often times unable to suppress smiles when the music is flowing beautifully. When we bumped into Alan on the campus of Indiana University for String Academy 2015 he went out of his way to make us feel welcome and well-remembered from the weeks in Alaska, and again giving very positive encouragement in all we do. We just wish we lived in the same city as Alan because we would love him to be a part of our son's continued musical and personal development.
