Jose and his team were not only so kind, but VERY knowledgeable and worked efficiently. I hired them for a basic dryer vent cleaning and they wound up with a lot more work due to an issue with my dryer connection. Jose explained every step of the way to me and got the job done perfectly. Buying my first home and the issues that came along with it has been stressful, but it was so helpful to have Jose on site getting the work done well. Will be hiring again for air duct cleaning and chimney work!

Leo did a good job , he was on time and professional. Initial Quote for dryer vent cleaning was $129 and after seeing in person and dryer vent pipe goes all the way from living room to deck outside , the quotation was increased to $289 which is higher than the quote i received from the same company for whole house Air duct cleaning for 6-10 vents($249) . After negotiation they gave me a discount of $50 ($229). Even though it seemed still expensive for me after discount , i went for it.

We asked for proposals for duct and vent cleaning. We got a number of fast responses. We decided to pursue The Best Air Quality and Restoration based on reviews, cost proposed and the credentials and info on their website. The response from the firm was quick and we were able to schedule at my convenience. The vendor showed up on time and did the work thoroughly and professionally and even added some additional services we needed without excessive charges. I was very pleased with the work and the personnel. I asked them to follow up with me when this service was needed again. I would definitely recommend them.

The folks from Colonial Chimney cleaned our dryer vent, which was clogged by a birdnest and a great deal of backed up dryer lint. They did a great job. They arrived on time, they finished the job quickly, and they were very friendly and professional. There was a special for dryer vent cleaning at the time, so the price was great. The only thing that could have been better was the clean-up after the job was completed. The laundry room and back patio were covered in lint and dust after they left, but for the great price we paid, I didn't mind cleaning it up myself. I would hire them again.

We had the basement cleared of insulation material and carpet with mold, and the basement walls and floor washed off existing mold, and sprayed for mold prevention. We had dehumidifier and vent registers put in, and basement walls painted with Drylok. The basement is now mold-free, with adequate air circulation and humidity control, thanks to RestorClean's professional work and recommendations. Very impressed with the company!

SNG was an excellent company to do business with. Gary arrived right on time, very professional and polite, did a great job, and left the place clean after he was done with my chimney cleaning, back wall repair, and dryer vent cleaning. Plus the price was very reasonable compared to other companies' quotes. What more could you ask for? Definitely 5-star service.

Garrett and Lloyd with DMV Chimney and Masonry Repair were great. They showed up on time, explained everything they were doing, completed everything perfectly. I'm very happy with their work. Garretts also took some measurements for patio job and got me in touch with a local company for estimates. I highly recommend DMV for any chimney, masonry, or dryer vent work.

Anthony worked with our limited schedule and arrived right on time. He performed the job well, cleaned up afterwards. Was honest about the state of our HVAC vents (not as bad as we thought) and our dryer vent (way worse than we thought). We would recommend his services and use him again for sure.

the cleaning of two old wing back chairs. a good job was provided with care and professionalism. they where on time and called prior to the service. I would certainly call them again. my only concern is that the quoted price was different from the price quoted after seeing the chairs. I just wish that there had been clarity on the original quote to expect different pricing. also it would have been very helpful if the original quote had the price break down for different types of cleaning products/services that maybe needed. such as deep cleaning, steam cleaning, and a fabric protection product, etc. other than that keep up the good work.

Walter installed a 50 gallon power vented water heater in a basement crawlspace. From the first time i contacted him until the project was complete he was responsive and did what he said he would do. Walter even went out of his way to fit the install into our very busy schedule. He is a true professional and he completed the project on budget. Will be working with him on future projects.

I had a great experience with Breathe Easy. They were on time, responsive, and did a great job of cleaning out my dryer vent. They showed me how much gunk was built up and I'm so thankful they came as it definitely was a fire hazard. Thanks Breathe Easy!

I hired MJ Home Services to complete some work around my house that was on the inspection list. They offer a wide range of services but seem completely qualified and able to do everything. Roof was repaired (leak in the master bedroom from vent pipe) Mold Removed in basement front wall from a spicket leak (which they repaired as well!) I was extremely pleased to find 1 company that did everything. I received a certificate once work was completed and the entire crew was a pleasure to work with. I would recommend them if you need any type of work. Thank you John (who is the owner) he spent a hour doing the first walkthrough and was overall a overqualified inspector/owner that really seems to care which is hard to find.

They cleaned carpets for the entire house and the carpets look great. It's like I bought new carpets. They charge reasonable rates. They cleaned the vents and my HVAC system 6 months ago. They know how to clean and do it right.

Dan was fantastic. He did all he said he would do and then some. He not only cleaned the vents to my dryer, but went into the attic, disassembled the outside vent on the roof, and found the blockage that was keeping my dryer from working properly. I was thinking I'd have to buy a new dryer, but it works great now. He and his crew were very polite, skilled and professional. I will use them again, without a doubt.

I was due for my annual air duct cleaning & didn't even know it. A very nice representative called me & explanined the special packages to me & gave me a choice of which one I wanted. The technicians they sent out the next week to my home arrived on time, performed a thorough inspection on my unit & explained to me the Cleaing process. They were efficient in making sure all of my ducts as well as my dryer vent were cleaned out. I never felt pressured in to spending more money on any service beside the one I chose. The $59.95 package was inexpensive for the 3 part cleaning they performed for me. I have seasonal allergies so this definitely helped clean the air in my home. I would definitely recommend it to friends & family.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How often should you get your air ducts cleaned?

How often you should clean your air ducts depends on your situation. If you or someone in the home has asthma or is acutely allergic to certain airborne materials or pollen, regular duct cleaning may be helpful. The Environmental Protection Agency doesn’t have an official position on the necessity of air duct cleaning unless the ducts have been contaminated by rodents, insects or mold, or you are aware of particles blowing out through the vents. The EPA recommends you have your air ducts cleaned on an as-needed basis. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) suggests having air ducts cleaned every three to five years.

Be cautious with companies that offer “whole house air duct cleaning,” urges the NADCA. The company may be using unscrupulous tactics to upsell you once they get started. Before any work begins, always clarify in writing what the job entails and what the cost will be. To protect yourself against fraud, read customer reviews and verify that your HVAC cleaning service has applicable licenses and certifications.

Do you need to clean your air ducts?

Air duct cleaning is done by heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) professionals. The pros use industrial-strength, truck-mounted vacuums and powerful brushes and hoses to clean inside the metal ducts that make up your forced air heating and cooling system. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends duct cleaning if there is “substantial visible mold growth inside hard surface ducts, ducts that are infested with vermin such as rodents or insects, or ducts that are clogged with excessive amounts of dust and debris and/or particles are actually released into the home from your supply registers.”

You should also have air ducts cleaned after recent water contamination or water damage to prevent mold; after renovations or remodeling to ensure debris and dust didn’t settle in the vents and ducts; if you are having problems with allergies or asthma; or when you are moving into a newly purchased home, especially if the previous owners smoked or had pets. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) recommends getting your air ducts cleaned every three to five years, or every two to three years in regions where homeowners use their air conditioning and heater for many months of the year, while the EPA suggests homeowners have duct cleaning done as needed.

How long does it take to get your ducts cleaned?

The amount of time air duct cleaning takes can depend on how extensive your duct system is, how old your air ducts are, and whether they have ever been cleaned. On average, expect a standard size home (between 2,000 and 3,000 square feet) to take 2-5 hours for one to two technicians to clean. Here are the proper protocol and equipment you should expect from a professional duct cleaning service, as recommended by the Environmental Protection Agency:

  • All doors and access ports opened to ensure the entire duct system is inspected and cleaned.
  • Thorough system inspection prior to cleaning to identify possible asbestos-containing materials. If asbestos is present, specially trained and equipped contractors must do the removal.
  • Use of approved vacuum equipment that exhausts particles outside of your house. If the vacuum exhausts inside your home, it must be HEPA equipment.
  • Furnishings and carpet covered and protected.
  • Soft-bristled brushes only on fiberglass duct board and sheet metal ducts internally lined with fiberglass.
  • Ductwork properly protected.
  • Adherence to guidelines and practices set down by the National Air Duct Cleaners Association.

How much does it cost to replace air ducts in a house?

If your air ducts have been damaged, you’ll need to replace them. The national average air duct replacement cost is $150-$280, which may not include materials. Factors such as duct material, labor, location of ducts and linear feet of ductwork will all affect your final costs. Labor costs will vary based on how accessible the ducts are and what material your ducts are made of. The least expensive duct material is a flexible, non-metallic ducting that costs approximately $1-$2 per linear foot. Flexible aluminum is generally more expensive and stronger than non-metallic ducting. Stainless steel ducting is the strongest, the least flexible (meaning installing it typically has higher labor rates), and usually the most expensive. An average price for air duct replacement could range between $35 and $55 per linear foot, including basic materials and labor. A typical single-family home has 6-10 duct runs; replacing or installing one duct run could average $150-$250 for labor.

How much does it cost to have your air ducts cleaned?

If you’re concerned about dust, allergens or mold, it may be time to have your air ducts cleaned. The national average cost for air duct cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Air duct cleaning costs will vary based on a number of factors such as your location in the country, the age and condition of your air ducts, the number of linear feet to be cleaned, and any repairs your ducts may need. HVAC cleaning companies should clearly outline what is included in their services and at what rate, so always make sure you understand and have a written agreement before work begins. Here are some examples of average air duct cleaning costs:

  • Tiered pricing for different levels of service:
    • Standard cleaning: $100, which may include truck-mounted industrial vacuums, high-pressure air wands and air snakes to clean all supply and return vents, branch lines, and main trunk lines.
    • Advanced cleaning: $200, which may include standard cleaning services, plus rotobrush or viper clean sweep in the main trunk lines.
    • Ultimate cleaning: $400, which may include advanced cleaning, plus insertion of a viper microline into all vents to force debris down the branch lines and into the main trunk lines, to be handled by the viper clean sweep. Typically, all ductwork surface is contacted, before-and-after photos are provided, and the furnace is cleaned.
  • A flat rate for unlimited vents: $289.
  • Additional fees for larger houses: $20 for each additional 500 square feet over 2,500.
