    (17 reviews)

Private piano lessons are currently being offered in the Reston area by Donna Whited, an experienced (have taught for over 20 years, including at the college level), degreed teacher with advanced training (DMA-Eastman School of Music). I have been teaching in the Reston area since 2005. Currently, I have places for beginning to advanced students in my schedule. Lessons vary in length (30, 45, 60 minutes). The emphasis of these lessons is progressive instruction of music fundamentals and piano technique & literature, as well as theory in preparation to perform classical music. There are many opportunities for students to perform throughout the year (studio classes, recital, auditions, and festival participation). I am a member of MTNA, VMTA, NVMTA, and American College of Musicians, where I serve as an adjudicator. I offer reasonable rates for profesional quality piano instruction with an emphasis on individualized attention. Please contact me for a free, no-obligation trial lesson. • Eva's Piano

    (3 reviews)

I have been teaching private piano lessons for children and adults for 15 years as well as group piano classes in Loudoun and Fairfax County Public Schools for a year. During these years, I used many different methods, tailoring the lessons towards the students needs, wants, interests and capabilities. I am a strong advocate for teaching music notations but also understand that many children have difficulties with dots on five lines, so I use colors and numbers to train their eyes and help them learn songs by ear. I love to play the piano, and also love to share the joy of playing music.

  • Ms. Sheen's Piano Lessons

    (2 reviews)

I teach and instruct piano lessons. Lessons will include piano technique, music reading, rhythm counting, performance pieces, duet music, music theory, composing, and much more. My students and I typically pick out music pieces together and I would give mini assignments to the student that are readily within their reach given a bit of practice. The type of technical and musical training I give to my students would enable them to relate to the music at hand and allow them the ability execute and express the music. Performance pieces range from various periods and genres including music composed by W. Gillock, David C Glover, M Mier, C. Rollin, J.S. Bach, W.A. Mozart, L.V. Beethoven, F. Chopin, R. Schumann, F. Mendelssohn, F.J.Haydn, D. Kabakevsky, E. Macdowell ,and Scott Joplin to name a few. I host recitals to local nursing home residents on behalf of my students. I am an approved adjudicator for the Piano Guild Exams, as well as the National Federation of Music Clubs' annual spring festivals. My students love the fact that I let them choose and pick pieces. I give out rewards to motivate them, especially the little ones. I also assign sight-reading pieces for the students; however, when the time is right and when needed, I do play the pieces for them to hear. I have over 15 years of experience in teaching and over 20 years of experience in performing.

I am a piano and voice teacher with over 15 years experience teaching children and adults from beginner to late intermediate levels. I come to homes in the Chantilly, Centerville, and South Riding areas of Northern Virginia. Rates are competitive. I also teach on camera acting and drama. I teach all ages, but most of my beginner students are between 7 and 12. I enjoy working with this age group because they are a lot of fun and it is great to witness how quickly they learn new things! Some students who started with me as beginners are now teenagers and are performing at the intermediate level. Aside from performing more complex pieces, they also get to do popular songs they like. For many of them, music from the TV show "Glee" is a big favorite! Some of my favorite composers are Anton Dvoreck, JS Bach, Ludwig Von Beethoven, and Scott Joplin. Some of my favorite bands and musicians are Paul Simon, The Beatles, U2, Tori Amos, Alicia Keys, Coldplay, and the B-52's.

We offer clarinet lessons for beginners through advanced. Ms. Bley teaches 45-minute and 60-minute private lessons on B-flat clarinet, E-flat soprano clarinet, and bass clarinet to students ages nine through adult in her studio located in North Reston. Here are some comments she received recently from students and their parents: "Thank you so much for everything you have done for me during the past three years. You have been a great teacher and are an inspiration to me. You are an amazing person and have such a great spirit. As challenges approach, you handle them with great poise and keep your calm. You are incredibly organized and always are one step ahead. I have learned so much from you both in playing the clarinet and becoming a better person. I have developed so much as a clarinet player over the years thanks to you. Thanks for always believing in me!" "I don't know if I can really describe how much you have done for me these past years. Before I started taking lessons from you, I was in the lowest ensemble playing 3rd part and I barely knew my scales. Now I'm first chair in the top band, playing better than I ever have before and I have a real love for music. I wanted to thank you for all the time and energy you put into teaching. You have been so kind and patient with me over the years. I have loved playing the music I never would have gotten to play if I hadn't taken lessons, and I have greatly enjoyed talking with you about everything from band to college. You have imparted a wonderful love of music to me and I hope to continue playing as long as I can." "Thanks for being such a great teacher and role model!" Here is a sampling of Ms. Bley's students' accomplishments during the 2010-11 school year: First Chair: 13 of Ms. Bley's students were first chair clarinet in their school band. Second Chair: 5 of her students were second chair clarinet in their school band. Solo Festival: 30 of her students played a solo with piano accompaniment for their school district's solo festival. Of those, 27 received superior ratings and 3 received excellent ratings. All-District: 12 of Ms. Bley's students were accepted into their All-District Band. All-State: 4 of her students were eligible to audition for All-State; 1 (a sophomore) placed top in the state on Eb soprano clarinet. Youth Orchestras: 5 of Ms. Bley's students were accepted into youth orchestras.

Thumbtack Spotlight

TNotes Music Studio

(5 reviews)

At TNotes Music Studio, they believe that learning piano can be as much fun as playing it. They are known for their fun and effective teaching method that gets their students begin playing the piano with both hands right away.

What do you love about your job?

I love that the method I use makes it so easy to have folks playing piano with both hands so quickly! They come in wondering and hoping (especially the adults) and if they are are coachable, then I know they are going to playing soon and well!

Who or what inspired you to start your business?

I have always loved to play piano and for years, I performed and played in contemporary bands and did weddings and other events. So when I found this method, opening my own studio was a natural move! My students and what they are achieving, inspire me every day! The method is a bit different, but highly effective and lots of fun. They do call it playing the piano, after all!
