Porter painted our master bedroom. We had just moved in and never hired a professional painter before, but we couldn't have had a better experience. The ceilings are very high, there's a large high shelf space, and a large arched window. He nailed every bit of it. The color was awesome, he was on time, efficient, very kind and patient with my schedule, and left everything very clean. I'd highly recommend him for any painting needs!!

Great experience. Milt took a job that would take me 3 weeks to do and accomplished in 3 days. He was professional, honest, and dependable. His price made me feel like I was stealing money from him, it was that reasonable! If I need another project completed, no need to search for another painter, I'm calling Milt. Hands down best experience.

Mark is a breath of fresh air as concerns handymen. He does everything very well, has reasonable prices, and does what he SAYS he'll do (without BS excuses) or disappearing for days at a time. I would highly recommend his services.

Mark provided a painter with 24 hour notice to fill-in and paint 33 individual doors for my team. He was professional on the phone, easy to work with and his crew that arrived to do the work took care of business. While our process experienced a hiccup with a shortage of material, we couldn't ask for a faster and more responsive individual to work with. Great contact!

Hired Fred for painting 3 concrete storage areas in our house. Was very happy with his work. The painters came on time, did spray painting in concrete storage areas and they look great now (aqua blue color). He also painted accent wall in one of the rooms with royal blue and we are very pleased with his work. We gave our other house painting work - 2 rooms and deck repaint based on our experience with him. Hiring him again for garage painting. Pros - Responds quickly, checks with us for the exact color we need in the morning or day before so there are no surprises. Also his prices are competitive and affordable. He will not overcharge.Quality work. Great crew. Cons - Didn't move furniture back to wall which they moved to the middle of room before painting. Also, paying through CC will cost a minor surcharge.

I was surprised when I hired a painter that I was expected to provide the painting supplies. I expected to buy the sheetrock but not the brushes, roller pans and roller covers. I thought a "painter" would have those supplies.

Andrew did a wonderful job painting many rooms in my new home prior to furniture being delivered. I was blown away by his work ethic and his dedication to the job. Andrew removed border wallpaper in one room prior to painting and also had to sand down a wall with crazy paint colors before painting another room! He worked really hard and I appreciated the job that he completed! I highly recommend him to others looking for a painter and will refer him to friends and family in the future!

Wm. Griffith & his crew of professional painters will exceed your expectations. They power wash, caulk all seams & cracks, replace damaged siding or rotted wood, & use quality paint for durability. They keep to a schedule from start to finish & our home looks unbelievably better now than when it was new! If you are looking for quality work, look no farther.

My experience with Scott & Overland Painting Pro's was by far the best experience I have ever had hiring someone to complete a project on my house. He is extremely professional, incredibly easy to work with and just an all around nice guy. I had several painters bid my exterior painting job and he was definitely the most reasonable of them all. With such a reasonable bid (and the fact that I didn't have the best experience with workmanship of another contractor) I was afraid he might cut some corners but I fears were unfounded. When he was finished, he asked me to walk around the house and point out any areas that might need extra attention. I will definitely use him again and recommend him to anyone without any hesitation!

I have to say I have had painters in the past paint rooms for me. But C.F. Painting is top notch.. I will only have him and his crew paint for me. He’s done the exterior and kitchen, laundry room, hallway, living room.. bedrooms and barhrooms are next.

Carlos was easy to work with. The scope of work matched exactly with our needs. As he adds painters, he should be able to handle larger jobs well.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
