Introduction: Hi! I love teaching and have been consistently doing it since 1993. I teach people of all ages. As young as 4 years old! From complete beginners to advanced. I also have extensive performance experience in rock, jazz, country, funk, reggae, and electronic music genres. I also do a lot of recording. I play with a few local bands including Dark Side of the Wall. I also have a bachelor's degree in music and a master's in music technology.
I live in Louisville KY. I teach mainly online. But if you are in the Louisville/southern Indiana area we could also have in-person lessons.
My goal is to help my students be able to play the music they love. Some of my students have gone on to pursue music in college, others are touring professionals. Most of my students stay with me for years. I will always start by answering your questions or addressing the issues that are important to you. Then, I usually recommend daily exercises and ways of practicing to address other issues I see or hear. These can include ergonomics, technique, timing and rhythmic exercises, patterns, coordination, etc. I have used most of these exercises to improve my own playing but I have also seen them help countless students over the years.
At the end of our lesson, I will send you a detailed email with the materials we covered and how to practice them.
The first lesson is 20% off. The regular price is $1 per minute.
I recommend that all my students have a drum set (acoustic or electronic), a practice pad, and I will probably recommend a book or two. I can help guide you on the purchase of these materials. You do not need to have all of this to start but eventually will most likely need them. I also recommend that my students practice on a daily basis.
We can use a few different online platforms including Zoom. You will need to have a reliable internet connection and at least one device with a camera and microphone. Ideally a laptop, but a phone or tablet will work as well. Things work best when you use headphones or earphones. We can set up a brief test call so you can experience what the lesson will be like and iron out all the technical details, at no charge. I have a multi-camera setup so you can hear and see everything clearly.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have. I look forward to meeting you.
