Fantastic experience from start to finish. Gianni contacted me immediately after I placed a request for fence contractors in my area. We met the following morning (he was there ahead of time!) he gave me an extremely reasonable quote and worked with my schedule to get it done. The fence is perfect. Now we are moving onto many other projects. I highly recommend Gianni and his team as they have both integrity and professionalism. Five stars!!!!

I would wholeheartedly recommend Duncan. I hired him to construct a fence for the back patio of my condo. He was always the consummate professional -- polite, courteous, prompt, and true to his word. In all, the project took approximately 4-5 days. He was early most days and I had never met a contractor who was usually early. He always cleaned up after himself each day and continuously kept me updated regrading his progress or what we would do the next day. He went above and beyond my expectations. In fact, one day he was even working in the rain. I am so pleased with the finished product and have received compliments from envious neighbors. Thank you, Duncan!

Thomas showed up immediately to give me a quote and finished the job in record time. He helped brainstorm some ideas and fixed my leaning fence and he installed a new section of deck and fence. He's absolutely precise with his measurements and his work quality shows he's been building for many years. I'm hiring him to install cabinet hardware because I know they will be level and installed correctly.

I found Roderick on this website a few months back. I was actually looking for someone to work on my fence, but Roderick ful fillled another need for me when I decided to use someone else for the fence. He agreed to repave my driveway and sidewalk leading up to the house. I liked his quote that he gave. Didn't try to gouge me at all. It was much lower than some of the other people I had talked to about it. Roderick was always in touch with me and finished the project the same day. Did a fabulous job on the driveway. I had zero complaints and drastically improved the value of my house. I got a lot of compliments from the neighbors on it. He know how to do many different thinks when it comes to home improvement.

Travis is officially my go-to guy. He has taken care of numerous projects around my house. And he does an excellent job. The price he quoted me for my projects is what I paid when the job was done. Would definitely recommend to friends and family. Will hire him for future projects. I also want to mention Joey and Jimmy. They are very friendly and professional, too.

I saw Rose Construction doing a job in the neighborhood. I called and then I had a talk with Jordan, who owns the company, and I liked what he had to say. I'm an engineer so I knew a lot of questions to ask. It was a pretty big project -- taking the Roof off the existing garage and adding a master bed and bath. The project was completed the first 5 weeks of 2016 because they were here everyday until the job was complete. A lot of contractors start and then they'd stop and then they'd come back to drag it out. But the project I had with Lemus was continuous. They listened to me very carefully and did everything I asked. I had a list of things. Anything that I saw that needed correction, they corrected it. They did a good job and I was very pleased with it overall.

Services are beyond professional and Ben keeps an honest and open communication. Definitely well priced and you get the job done with great care and on schedule. Ben has completed several different projects after I had a nightmare experience with a contractor. He has renovated a garage into a wonderful guesthouse, done fence install and repairs, and built a porch that transformed my house completely! I often get lawn care services as well as I can't keep up with that myself, and I'm always so happy with the end results.

I had called Mr. Lucas in regards to repairing a broken fence in my yard, he showed up a few hours after speaking on the phone. After meeting and looking at the fence he informed me he'd have to buy supplies first, then he would call to schedule a day to return. Luckily, from a previous attempt to fix the fence I already had all the supplies he needed, and since it was urgent for me to get the fence fixed the same day due to my dog who kept escaping into traffic, he agreed to start the repairs right then and there. It took him about an hour to complete the project, he left my yard clean, and my fence looking good as new! I was very satisfied with his work and the timely manner in which the job was completed.

John built us a double privacy fence in Waveland, Mississippi. The property was right in front of a pond and in the Katrina direct hit path, so John, used pipe fence posts filled with concrete, but the fence itself was made of wood hung with screws instead of nails. The fence that John built exceeded our expectations, was professionally done and was completed timely. John also did various renovations for us, including new divider walls, crown molding and painting. He did a refinish on a walk-in closet that was so sturdy, he could hang from the clothing pole holder. John has multi-faceted experience as a contractor and has always been able to complete any request we have made. His professionalism and work quality are highly recommended by us for any of your construction needs.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

      • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
      • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
      • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
      • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
      • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
      • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

      • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
      • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
      • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
      • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
      • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
      • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
      • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
      • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
