Thomas installed a sliding barn door for me in my guest room as well as helped me with another small repair to a plexiglass window. He was on time, did an excellent job, and even swept up the area and took out the trash which I have never had anyone do before. I will be saving his # for future issues that pop up and I highly recommend him. Thanks so much Thomas!!

I hired Heart and Soul Residential Cleaning for a one-time deep cleaning. I have two dogs and a cat, which makes things a little furry. Alverina and her daughter and niece were fantastic. They made sure the baseboards, interior windows, surfaces, bathroom, and floors were clean and they even dusted my artwork on the walls. The best part about the service is that it is affordable and they cleaned the entire house (about 950 square feet, 2 bedrooms, 1 bath) in about two hours. Also, Alverina was very polite and nice and seems like a terrific person. I highly recommend their service.

Arthur Douglas, New Orleans, LA Window Replacement Thank you Mr. Duncan for doing a fantastic job. Mr. Duncan puts the pro in professional. He took out my existing window. Saved me tons of money by installing a 36 by 52 window instead of the 36 by 51 and 1/2 (Uneven dimensions means special order). He sealed the gaps in my brick. He put a never rot barrier around my window and a silicone seal that blends straight in ( Wonderful work I still don't know where the silicone is). He transformed the new construction window that I bought into a replacement window (saving me more money). He chalked my existing window frame and filled in all the holes. And that's not all folks. His clean up was excellent. You would have not know work was done unless I told you. He carries all his tools and shows up early. Did I mention he shows up early? And the best part is he is very knowledgeable and creative. Everything you need into one. I highly recommend Mr. Duncan for any home improvement needs. P.S. Mr. Duncan I have more projects waiting on you!

I hired Mr. Rodrick and his crew to repair termite damage in my kitchen and several repairs outside. He was very thorough, neat and always there when promised. He was able to squeeze me in during the holidays when I had time off. They replaced rotten soffit and facia boards around my house, cleaned and repaired my gutters, repainted all of it, and added some columns on my carport. As it turned out, the damage from the termites was much worse than we thought. The entire wall had to be ripped out, window re-framed, cabinet taken down, new sheetrock and painting. I spent more money than I wanted, but we couldn't see the damage without opening the wall. For all the work they did, the price was right. I would definitely re-hire this company for any future work needed.

Hunter and crew saved my marriage! My wife was visiting her mother in Jackson one weekend and I locked myself out of the house. Thinking I could easily fix it in the morning before she returned, I went to bed. It was the last sleep I got for the next two days. It was not as easy as replacing a pane of glass, OH NO, I had to order it and it would take at least two(2) WEEKS for it to arrive. The cat is out of the bag! Called Hunter and crew and they had it replaced in a day. WHEW! Will definitely use again and tell My friends. H Howard MS Gulf Coast

I am looking forward to amending this review if we can get our renovation finished. The biggest problem started when the 3rd floor addition was not tarped properly and it rained on first floor which is our living and dining room. So, we had to completely clear those rooms out. Which has led to us only being able to live in two rooms of our house. They treated their mess up like another part of the renovation and they STILL have not replaced the floors NOR hooked up the AC to the be other side of the house. My kitchen is literally Hell’s Kitchen. With two small kids, who both finish school this week, I don’t think I have to tell you how hard it is to not have even the part of the house that WAS supposed to be functional throughout the renovation working. See photos. Also, my yard is still a mess. Full of rusty nails and a rusty saw blade and the dumpster that hasn’t been taken away yet. So can’t send the kids outside. Bill didn’t include the windows as part of our estimate - so be aware of that. I find that fascinating. He also is claiming not to “remember” the original plans to demolish the stairs and rebuild them - a $5000 part of the renovation - even after haggling with us about windows - he said “he doesn’t remember” that the stairs were part of the estimate. I would like that off the top of the price. So- I sincerely look forward to amending this review if they can get their stuff together and finish this up. As a counter to the negativity - the upstairs work is beautiful.

I truly enjoyed working with this family team and we have more projects on the horizon. The first project we completed together was a restoration of four 100-year-old, 15ft windows - a task which many other contractors refused to even quote because it is so specialized. The Barilleau team was knowledgeable, creative, timely, and reasonably priced. I have already recommended them to friends and neighbors.

Garcia Remodeling Construction are punctual, diligent, and extremely thorough. We have an old 100 year old shotgun home and every single one of our windows leaked when it rained, letting water into the walls and creating horrendous mold inside and outside of the walls. Erix inspected all our windows and understood the problems immediately. Within a week he provided an estimate and we scheduled a start date for the project, which included fixing and sealing the windows and opening up our walls to remove and replace all the damaged wood and insulation. Erix and his colleagues took great care throughout the project, including moving and covering all our belongings to limit dust from the work. Most impressive is one would never know that our walls had to be cut open and replaced around the windows. They did an impeccable job spackling, painting, etc. We have peace of mind now, whenever it rains, that our house is completely sealed from the elements, and that we don't have to worry about mold any longer. I highly recommend Garcia Remodeling.

This was an unbelievable amazing experience. The job of cleaning out my window ac was completed above my expectations. The ac looks and blow like brand new. Mr. Kasey had a great attitude and even appeared to enjoy it...with my 4 year old great-grandson peering over his shoulders. I will continue with handyman for all other projects..this service is a blessing in my life.

Cris installed windows and blinds for my home. He did an amazing job! Cris was very professional. He came out to measure everything himself and he was the one who installed them himself. I appreciate when the owner is out on the job making sure everything is done correctly! Cris made sure to keep me up to date of when my products came in and when he was going to install them. Turn around time was excellent! I would highly recommend Cris to my friends and family. I will be calling AAA Shutters again for future work!

I had two Sunrise noise reduction glass windows installed in my bedroom. They work great, and are cheaper than other companies' soundproof windows. I live on a flight path, and my neighbor's F150 is parked right outside my room, so the noise woke me up a lot. Now it doesn't! The windows took a little longer to come in than I was told, and I had to keep checking on them because I was not kept updated. But once they were installed, I was happy with them. Picture is of the 6 ft long window.

This was the first time I used Thumbtack and also a first time for my painter. The app gave me the ability to receive multiple quotes and I took advantage of the opportunity when I scheduled 5 walk through bids in my home. I'll start by saying that my home is over 35 years old and I have high expectations. I wanted my walls to look like new construction. This was not going to be an easy job as it entailed floating all of the seams in my sheetrock, multiple layers of high build to give my walls a new smooth finish, new interior paint throughout, baseboards, crown molding, window sills, trim, cabinets, all new 6 panel interior doors, and a lot more. I also had a VERY tight deadline. 3 of the 5 painters that gave me a bid were one man shows and I didn't have the confidence that the job could be complete in time. I couldn't have made a better choice hiring Bobby. He is extremely easy to work with. His pride of workmanship shows. His painting crew and carpenters hold the same values. He was not the highest nor the lowest bid and I can honestly say the highest bid could not have completed this job to my expectations like Bobby did. If you are painting 1 room or an entire house, I highly recommend him. I will submit before and after pictures once I get decor back in place. I was considering putting my home on the market but everything looks like new construction so I may stay a while longer :)

Amanda performed interior design and construction services for our new house design and build. She has an uncanny ability to sense what your design wishes are and translate them into executable prints. She totally designed our kitchen and bath layouts complete with cabinet layouts, appliance, and plumbing choices. Everything fit and worked out beautifully from an aesthetic and functional view even down to the choice of paint colors. Amanda's construction crews installed flooring, did painting, and installed some incidentals such as a gas fireplace. All was to our complete satisfaction. Not to be overlooked in Amanda's strengths is her ability to provide creative solutions. We are into cooking and Amanda developed a kitchen design that included two full size ovens with a cook top between. The cooktop is "sunken" relative to the ovens providing a unique custom design. We also had an architectural design problem with two corner windows over the kitchen sink. Due to the roof line, the windows would have been too high to see out of. She came up with an idea of a full size garden window on the side without roof line problems and a reflective mirror on the other. Hence, we have the desired view with what appears to be two full sized windows. Bottom line is that we recommend her services highly. She is a talented creative designer.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

    • Trim repair:
      • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
      • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
    • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
    • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
      • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
      • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
        • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.
