The tree in our front yard needed some serious attention as it was beginning to touch our home as well as hung over our driveway so low that I couldn't park in it without getting all kinds of stuff on it. We knew that we needed to trim it but, being first time homeowners, we didn't have a clue as to where to start. We had called Terry for another project that we are hiring him to do and when he saw our tree he mentioned that he trimmed trees as well. We liked Terry and it was a no brainer for us to hire him for this project as well. His crew did a wonderful job on our tree and hauled away the debris for us as well. Him and his team are kind, professional, and can be trusted to do the job right the first time. His pricing is affordable and communication isn't at all an issue. We definitely look forward to working with him again in future projects.

Gianni was fair with his prices. What I liked best about his work was his quality to detail. He explained things to me and also helped me decide what to do with my condo for what was best for my budget to remodel. I highly recommend this gentleman for his quality, thoughtfulness and honesty.

Working with La Cora Della has been an absolute pleasure from the beginning! The quote they gave us was incredibly reasonable, and they gave it to us in an itemized form so we could pick and choose what we wanted to move forward with based on our budget. They were on time, clean, personable, and were in constant contact to let us know what was going on with the renovation. If I had questions, it never took them more than an hour to get back to me. They were also able to recommend some awesome other professionals for services they weren't equipped for, like electrical work and plumbing. We are planning to hire them for any work we have going forward, and we are 100% comfortable recommending them to our friends and family. You will not regret hiring them!!!!

I am looking forward to amending this review if we can get our renovation finished. The biggest problem started when the 3rd floor addition was not tarped properly and it rained on first floor which is our living and dining room. So, we had to completely clear those rooms out. Which has led to us only being able to live in two rooms of our house. They treated their mess up like another part of the renovation and they STILL have not replaced the floors NOR hooked up the AC to the be other side of the house. My kitchen is literally Hell’s Kitchen. With two small kids, who both finish school this week, I don’t think I have to tell you how hard it is to not have even the part of the house that WAS supposed to be functional throughout the renovation working. See photos. Also, my yard is still a mess. Full of rusty nails and a rusty saw blade and the dumpster that hasn’t been taken away yet. So can’t send the kids outside. Bill didn’t include the windows as part of our estimate - so be aware of that. I find that fascinating. He also is claiming not to “remember” the original plans to demolish the stairs and rebuild them - a $5000 part of the renovation - even after haggling with us about windows - he said “he doesn’t remember” that the stairs were part of the estimate. I would like that off the top of the price. So- I sincerely look forward to amending this review if they can get their stuff together and finish this up. As a counter to the negativity - the upstairs work is beautiful.

Garcia Remodeling Construction are punctual, diligent, and extremely thorough. We have an old 100 year old shotgun home and every single one of our windows leaked when it rained, letting water into the walls and creating horrendous mold inside and outside of the walls. Erix inspected all our windows and understood the problems immediately. Within a week he provided an estimate and we scheduled a start date for the project, which included fixing and sealing the windows and opening up our walls to remove and replace all the damaged wood and insulation. Erix and his colleagues took great care throughout the project, including moving and covering all our belongings to limit dust from the work. Most impressive is one would never know that our walls had to be cut open and replaced around the windows. They did an impeccable job spackling, painting, etc. We have peace of mind now, whenever it rains, that our house is completely sealed from the elements, and that we don't have to worry about mold any longer. I highly recommend Garcia Remodeling.

We are beyond satisfied with the job done by Walter. He responded to our request for an estimate to install bathroom vanity cabinets within 10 minutes, with a better than competitive price. He is friendly and keeps you informed of every step of the job. He is meticulously thorough and takes great pride in his workmanship. After dealing with numerous lackluster workers during our bathroom renovation, Walter was a breath of fresh air. No corners cut! He is our guy from now on.

I am writing this review to express my satisfaction and to compliment the contracted repairs and enhancements work at my home by Shivers Nellon with Chase Remodeling and construction, Inc. following the Flood destruction which occurred in the August 2016 event. I was pleased with the bidding process and their work was all done very professionally and in a timely manner. I would highly recommend Mr. Nellon and company to home owners and Builders.

I couldn't envision a better contractor. Cesar completed the total rehab of a home I purchased that was in foreclosure. The house was in terrible condition and needed to be gutted to the studs. All new utilities were installed. I've been living in the home for the past 7 months and I still struggle to find issues with the work that was completed. Cesar was able to understand my renovation budget, acknowledge my vision of the completed project, manage my expectations of what could be completed with my budget (let's be honest...we all have expensive tastes until we get to the cash register lol), and was dedicated to providing quality craftsmanship. Cesar was always accessible to reach by phone, answered any question I had, and was willing to provide insight when I was contemplating decisions that I would probably regret after the project was completed. I'd recommend Cesar to anyone I hear in need of a contractor. I've included a few before and after pics to illustrate his work.

Mr. Lanning did excellent carpentry work on my house during recent renovation work. I would rate the large pergola he built on my patio as outstanding, as well as a very handsome kitchen vent hood and a unique coat rack in my mud room.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why should you hire a contractor?

Hiring a general contractor is a good idea for many remodeling projects. Home renovation contractors have a broad range of skills to manage, coordinate and complete a project. They should help make sure your project comes in on time and within your budget as they hire and supervise all the necessary subcontractors, including electricians and plumbers. They also handle procuring all the materials required for your job. Some homeowners look to save money by acting as their own contractor, but an experienced home renovation contractor is worth the cost. They should know local building codes, be able to pull all necessary permits, and work with inspectors to make sure the construction meets local codes. Also, because they get professional discounts, they can typically buy materials at a better price than you can; better prices on materials and labor save you money, and make up for at least a percentage of the cost of the contractor.

What is a general contractor?

When starting a home remodel or new construction project, you will probably hire a general contractor. A general contractor is a professional who is qualified to take a set of building plans and construct them as outlined. The general contractor may help perform the day-to-day building, or they may just hire workers and oversee all the work activities. In either case, the job of the general contractor is to see that your project gets built.

When you have a building project, ask for bids from various contractors. The bids tell you how much each will charge and what their scope of work will be. Once you have selected a bid, you sign a contract with that general contractor outlining the specifics of the project and the milestones during the project when they will receive payment installments. Once the contract is official, the general contractor will bring in their crew to begin construction. The contractor will manage the workers and subcontractors (anyone who doesn’t work directly for their company but that they need to outsource, like a marble installation pro), order all the materials, obtain work permits, and confirm that all the workers and subcontractors are completing their projects as planned. They typically handle all the payments to the workers and subcontractors, and send you invoice. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.  If you are organized and competent to oversee construction projects, and are able to make sure everything is being built properly and meeting code, it’s possible you can be your own general contractor.

How do you choose a commercial general contractor?

A commercial contractor provides similar services as a residential general contractor but specializes in working with large-scale projects for businesses, schools, nonprofits, governments and development firms. When researching commercial general contractors, review their portfolio of work and confirm they have ample experience working in the area you need. For example, if you are building a small strip mall, ask if the contractors have experience successfully incorporating all the needed elements such as a parking lot, meeting ADA requirements, accessing the proper permits, and completing work on time.

Once you’ve identified several qualified candidates, request bids for your project and then compare the scope of work with your needs and budget. Your commercial general contractor should oversee design, permitting, construction, materials purchase, and adherence to building code and zoning regulations, as well as sticking to an agreed-upon budget and schedule. It’s important to establish clear communication with your future commercial general contractor, as this will mean a smoother process for everyone. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.

Do I need a contractor for a kitchen remodel?

A kitchen remodel is one of the most important investments you can make in your home, and it’s critical to get the details right; that’s where a home renovation contractor comes in. A minor remodel usually includes new cabinet faces and hardware, replacement appliances, and paint, while an extensive job may enlarge the kitchen’s square footage, install new cabinets or an island, change the layout, and lay new tile or hardwood floors. Any renovation that includes filing permits, construction, or electrical or plumbing work is best completed by an experienced contractor who knows local codes.

How much will it cost to remodel my house?

The cost to remodel a home is highly variable — size and scope of the project, quality of materials, and the number of subcontractors required to complete the job all affect the total cost. The average national cost of a home renovation project is $13,500. The national average per-square-foot cost of a remodel ranges from $25 to $100. Nationally, kitchen and bathroom remodels are the most popular types of projects, in part because they typically have the highest return on investment when the home is sold. The national average cost of a major kitchen remodel ranges from $25,000 to $62,000, while the average bathroom remodel tends to cost $6,000 to $18,000. In addition to materials and labor costs, many remodeling project costs include permit fees, which, average $900 or more, depending on your location.
