At the last minute, my brother's widow requested we find a videographer to film his Memorial service. A couple of local calls were made, but everyone was already booked. Utilizing "Thumbtack," Michael Connell responded; I was nervous about booking a stranger over the internet. But, no worries: We couldn't be more satisfied! Prompt, courteous, professional, and responsive, Mike had the final video ready in just a week. His photo's and editing were spot on! Outstanding, actually.

I am so greatful I found Dante to film my daughter's wedding. He was pleasant to work with and reasonably priced. Dante made sure he captured all the right moments and the way he edited the footage into a movie was just amazing. My daughter and her husband are so happy to have such a wonderful memory of their special day. We highly recommend Dante Luna film & photography to anyone who is looking to document their special day or event. Denise

Mr. Foley did a fantastic job filming and editing a live performance for my band at the prestigious Wolf Den at Mohegan Sun. His creativity with his camera angles, and engaging video he edited has garnered a plethora of views on YouTube and has been the main video we use in pitching for gigs and sending to industry professionals. We definitely will employ Mr. Foley again for our next major live show!

We looked for a videogragher in Boston to film an all-day corporate event at the Marriott. We needed two cameras and significant post production editing. Jeremy had the best looking portfolio and gave a lower estimate. He was easy to work with and accommodating to last minute changes. He was professional, respectful and behaved appropriately for the corporate occasion. Additionally, he showed attention to detail, and did not just set up a camera and walk away. We are very pleased, will be using him again, and would recommend him.

When it came time for our wedding, my then fiancé and I were always on the fence about having a video made, not because we didn't want one but because with all the expenses we didn't think we could afford one. Just one month before our wedding day of 6/10/16 I made an executive decision and went to Thumbtack in search of a videographer for our big day. Here I had a few options but ultimately settled on Magic Moments and I couldn't be happier with that decision! Brian from Magic Moments was phenomenal from start to finish including the planning up to our big day and the videos he took and provided us. Brian / Magic Moments were professional, punctual and provided fantastic, quality footage of our wedding day which included both a 5 minute highlight film and 4 hour unedited film both shot it wonderful HD and given to us on Blu-Ray DVDs! Thanks to Magic Moments we have a wonderful, quality video which we can enjoy for years to come! I would absolutely recommend Magic Moments for any videography needs you may have!

We hired Ayan5 Media to film our wedding in December 2015. We came across this recommendation the week of the wedding. We couldn't believe how we lucked out! Josh was extremely attentive to detail, kind, and an overall wonderful addition of positive energy to our wedding day. I couldn't imagine a more genuine person to spend our entire wedding day with. Josh caught moments on film that I will cherish forever. He sent us a "trailer" soon after our wedding that was the most outstanding film and editing work we have ever seen. It was nothing short of perfectly done, and a magical experience we can relive over and over again for the rest of our lives! We also worked with Josh after to put together a longer version of the video because we were so impressed with the trailer. We recommend Josh to anyone and everyone. It was honestly the best decision we made in our whole wedding planning process. I am forever grateful to Ayan5 media for the memories I now have of the best day of our lives!

We thought that Jim Nogueria was a great wedding videographer! We found out about Jim's videography services through this website, Thumbtack. We were very satisfied with the overall quality of our wedding movie. We thought that the video captured all of the high points of our wedding, which included the key parts of the ceremony and reception. Although Jim was filming for 8-9 hours, the final edited wedding video was around 1.5 hours and included DVD chapters so we could navigate with ease to a certain part of the wedding movie. I had thought that Jim would have filmed the ceremony in its entirety, but he didn't include some of the standard Sunday mass aspects, like setting of the table, communion, etc. or the entire duration of the receiving line at the end of the ceremony. This was not a problem for us, but you just want to make sure the expectations are set and that you are both on the same page to avoid any disappointments at the end. Prior to hiring Jim as our wedding videographer, we liked how he was very responsive to the emails I sent him with my questions and how thorough he was with explaining the entire process. We actually never met face to face with Jim prior to the wedding, but felt that phone calls and emails were sufficient. We also liked how Jim, at the time of booking him which was almost 1.5 years ago, was one of the very few videographers in our area that was offering filming in 4K, which is the current and highest standard for video resolution. Jim always made sure that I was happy and completely satisfied with his services, including after he provided the finished product. In addition to the wedding video which he provided in the Blu-Ray disc format, at my request, he also provided me with the final wedding video/trailer video files, as well as all of the raw video footage which was not in the final wedding file. He sent me an external hard drive which I then I copied the files to my computer for backup purposes. Overall, we were very happy that we decided to hire a wedding videographer because the wedding video will be something that we will cherish forever.

If you are looking for a videographer/filmmaker, you can stop looking You want Nola. It was such a pleasure working with Nola on our memorial service (which she jumped into with less than a week's notice). She makes the process easy, she listens, and she is very talented. Nola didn't just film the moment of the event, but the meaning of it. On the day of the service, I barely knew Nola was there. In her highly respectful, quasi-invisible way, she shot four hours of footage and edited it into a professional film we are proud to share for generations to come. Unprompted, Nola ALSO created a 2-minute montage of the service that we cherish. Thank you, Nola!

East Coast Content has been filming our corporate training seminars for over 18 months. Each Month they present in a timely manner, film the training portion and quickly turn over a branded video for new and current employees to recap the training. The videos always turn out brilliant and the experience is consistently great while they are on site and while scheduling the next training video. I highly recommend using them for any video needs and I will be utilizing them for all of our needs in the future.

Spencer helped film and create a video for my event called Hurricane Challenge which was a service event for kids with disabilities. He was there early and stayed late, making sure he captured every wonderful moment. He was very professional, had all his own equipment and had the video finished in a very timely manner. He even took suggestions before finishing the final cut. He is a great videographer and editor!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

      • Package 1: $1,400
        • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
        • Two cameras with audio equipment.
        • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
        • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
      • Package 2: $1,800
        • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
