There's a reason Steve has so many positive ratings - because he does a great job at a reasonable price! For months I've been trying to find cabinet professionals to fix my cabinet, and they either wouldn't do the job or they would charge $300 for a house call. I was ready to give up when Steve gave me a quote well below what cabinetry professionals were going to charge for what was in my mind a very simple fix. Steve quickly arranged a time to meet a week later, called the night before to confirm, and came within an hour of the time he thought he'd be here. He not only fixed the cabinet, but re-enforced it and strengthened it. I appreciated Steve's attention to detail and crafty solution but also making sure it would last. The price ended up being as quoted which was great, and after all is said and done, I have a fixed cabinet! He also does audio/video and other home repairs, so if there are other things I need, I won't hesitate to call him up again!

We were looking for a cabinet refinisher to come out to the job we were not able to find anybody . Nelson was able to get to the house. This was not a easy job to do the people that live there with pigs the cabinets were a mess . Nelso cleaned and refinish those cabinets when he was done with those cabinets finished look like I just came out of the factory . He's workmanship was excellent his price was more than reasonable I would highly recommend Nelso and would use them again .

I hired Jeff Thompson to design and build a custom beverage center, a personal work station and a built in linen cabinet in my powder room for storage. He worked with me on the design of all of these pieces and he had great creative ideas. His work is impeccable , the job site was always clean, the project was done in the amount of time he projected and for the price we agreed on. Jeff is very personable so it was a pleasure to have him in my home. I am so happy with the work he did for me. I would highly recommend his services

I was in search of a carpenter to build a couple of cabinets for my existing kitchen. I found Wayne Davis who came to my home and listened to what I wanted. Wayne looked at my cabinets and said "I can match them." I gave him a sample piece of my existing cabinets for a color match, and he took some pictures. I received a mock up of the new cabinets via e-mail and they looked great. I gave approval for the building to commence. Upon delivery I was stunned! Wayne matched my existing cabinets to a "T." I am extremely happy with my new cabinets! Every time I go into my kitchen, I stop and stare at them. If you want an experienced professional in the field of carpentry, call Wayne Davis. You will not be disappointed!!! Attached are 2 photos, the photo of the cabinets with the mini fridge between them are my existing cabinets. The second photo of the floor to ceiling cabinet with the matching buffet cabinet is what Wayne built for me. Awesome!!

We had a pair of golden oak pantry cabinets refinished to match our new dining table, which has a chocolate finish. I provided the table leaf so he could see the table color and finish firsthand. Dennis was excellent to work with. He was very responsive, and gave us regular updates on our project. The quality of his work is also exceptional. I've attached photos of the before and after so you can see what he can do. Overall, I would work with him again, and I would recommend him to anyone else who has similar needs.

I had a pleasure of hiring Russell for home floor repairing job (engineered hard wood). I would highly recommend Russell for such carpentry work. Based on this fantastic experience, I would consider him for other home repair/installation jobs (gutters, storm door, etc). I had a buckled (peaked) floor due to the seller/installer not leaving enough gaps at the edges to account for expansion of hard wood during summer. I had about 6 estimates, and by far, his pricing was the most reasonable. While most people charged per job, Russell quoted me an hourly rate. Some more reasonable than others. A few were flat out reluctant to do the job, due to its small size (maybe thought it was less profitable) despite the full day needed for its completion. By giving me a ridiculous quote (similar pricing to a new floor installation), they implied they didn't want to work. The job required removing the moldings from the impacted walls, removing all of tiles, then laying them again from the problematic area. He sticks to the quote and to his estimated time. He has a good pace and doesn't linger to buy time. Also, I found him to be very personable. The job was done to the utmost satisfaction. If you want an honest, hard working man to look after your home repair jobs, this would be the guy.

We contacted Northeast Construction first based solely on the very professional email they sent. They were also the first to come look at the job, had the estimate to us the next day. Not the cheapest price but after speaking with Brandon I was sold on their experience. Three guys came out to our house, two worked the Sheetrock and one on the cabinet. Everything was covered and throughly cleaned over the couple days that they were there. The work was great, cabinet is perfect, couldn't ask for any thing better or different. Brandon came out to look everything over once the job was done.

I've had Eric Mann work on several projects for my home. One of which, a custom shelving storage system for my daughter's bedroom, was completed to perfection onsite in one day. I have other unique showcase pieces of his throughout my home. One of which, a beautiful barn wood decorative shelve/hatrack unit, is the highlight of my mudroom entryway. His work, combining function and style within my living space, has added unmeasurable value to my home.

I am so happy that I chose Mark for our kitchen remodel! Mark listened to my ideas and offered his own suggestions and improvements from his past experiences. After working through the layout together Mark's work was superior quality. He has strong attention to detail, and it showed in his cabinet making and installation. I highly recommend Mark for any project and I know we would be delighted to use him again, or know that our recommendation of Mark encouraged others to move forward with Mark! You will not regret it! I am so grateful to have found a customer focused and solution orientated contractor!!

I have had Stephen Cabitt create some of the most incredible custom cabinets and furniture on a personal and professional level for over 12 years. The level of fit and finish is impeccable, and his design input can take a rough idea and turn it into a remarkable finished piece. I would not hesitate to call Stephen for any of my future projects, in fact, he is the only one that I will trust to refinish the woodwork in my Victorian home following a fire last summer.

Igor has GREAT customer service skills! He is knowledgeable and patient and makes sure that you understand and are in agreement about the work/ job. Igor will go to Lowe's Home Depot with you to make sure the materials for the job are exactly what you want; I've never worked with anyone that is willing to do that. Igor re-furbished our staircase and built a built-in cabinet into our dining room closet; both are exceptional work! I would gladly hire and work with him again; HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.
