Tommy has been an amazing guitar, bass, and audio engineering teacher. Recently, we've been working together on some college auditions involving jazz bass, which I knew little of in terms of techniques and terminology. With Tommy's help, I've learned what would have taken me forever, and I feel a lot better about the audition process.
My fiancé and I signed up his 10 year old son for guitar lessons. He had never picked up a guitar in his life but he knew how to read music from playing crumbs in the middle school band. Mark was patient and understanding as he taught him how to place his first note. Mark was an excellent teacher and went at the perfect pace. We stopped lessons for a couple months to allow him to get better on what he's already learned. I look forward to starting again in the fall with Mark.
Bob is an excellent teacher! I have been taking bass guitar lessons with him for the past 4 months. As an adult just beginning to learn the bass, I am very happy that Bob tailors the lessons for me and my interests. From the beginning, we played songs from musicians that I enjoy (Black Sabbath, The Kinks, The White Stripes) and not the simplistic Mary Had a Little Lamb stuff you find in most beginning guitar books. Bob also incorporates music theory into our lessons in a fun and interesting way. For example, we'll be working on a Black Sabbath riff and he'll use it to demonstrate the pentatonic scale. Bob is kind, friendly, and professional. Our lessons start on time and he uses every minute of the lesson to its max. I am always excited to go to each lesson. I would highly recommend Bob to anyone looking to learn the guitar or bass guitar!
I love working with Lynn. I am just starting to learn the guitar and she has been a great instructor. She is very patient but also makes sure to encourage you when you are doing well! I have enjoyed every lesson and am excited to keep learning!
Dave has been my guitar instructor for the past 8 years, since I first began playing at age 60. He has a most effective teaching technique which allows skill building while permitting musical interest and direction to evolve. He is strongly suited to instruction in many genres including Classical/Flamenco, Jazz, Folk and Acoustic Rock.I have seen him work well with quite young students and those considerably older than my age of 68. Quite honestly, it is nearly impossible to request a song that Dave cannot play, transcribe, and find a key in which to play the song comfortably. He writes the charts for his latin jazz band, so my occasional forays into the world of music theory have also been well supported by Dave.
I hired Stan as a guitar teacher. I had never played before. Not only is he a great teacher but he's a nice guy. Always shows up on time and flexible to my schedule. After a few months I am further along than I ever thought possible. I would recommend Stan to anyone looking for a guitar teacher.
My son was bored with guitar because his previous teacher only did "book work." Mike asked my son what type of music and songs he liked, and used them to teach him his chords and eventually apply what he learned to any song. My son has learned to read music as well as pick up the song just by listening. Mike is a patient and passionate music teacher!
Matthew is a truly excellent guitar teacher. Not only is he a complete expert in all elements of playing and musicianship, he was able to respond exactly to my needs and wishes about how to improve my playing. He's patient, clear and also a lot of fun to work with! I give him my highest recommendation and would definitely send anyone who wanted to learn guitar to him for lessons.
I hired Preston for guitar lessons this summer and met with him for three lessons before having to go back to school. Preston is a real chill guy, with an incredible beard and even greater passion for music. He'll listen to your questions patiently (I had thousands) and enthusiastically give incredibly thorough answers that, although sometimes may circle around to a few different topics, always come back around with really interesting insight to boot. Although he's a talented guitarist, probably the best things about Preston are his personality and availability. He and I texted about problems I was having with learning a song or scale, and he would (and still does, actually) email me with exercise suggestions. Great guitarist, better guy. Definitely check him out no matter what you're interested in learning on guitar!
Both my daughters took guitar lessons with Wes. Hands down he is the one of best in the area. Wes has the ability to reach anyone at any level and brings out the absolute best in them. He listens to the individual student and understands their needs and desires to help bring out their personal best. Wes is versatile and talented and we were fortunate to know Wes and be taught by such a consummate professional. He relates well to any age level and doesn't push his music repertoire/agenda onto his students but gives them the opportunity to explore their style and genre of music freely. I highly recommend this fine and talented musician and teacher!!
John is a very talented music teacher. His passion for music truly comes through in his ability to teach and inspire. John taught my daughter guitar for a year ... we were sad that he was moving, otherwise he would still be teaching her! She learned a great deal and developed a true appreciation for music. What impressed me the most about John is that he is very patient, has a great way of interacting with kids, and really enjoys what he is doing. If a lesson needed to go over by a few minutes, it always did. That is very unusual with private lessons ... and was much appreciated! We highly recommend John as a guitar teacher.
Danielle gave my daughter one-on-one guitar lessons at our house. She always came prepared, with lessons tailored to my daughters skill level and interests. She made learning fun by throwing in some easy to learn songs that would feel like a real accomplishment for a beginner. Plus, I liked to groove along while they played the Beatles and other classic rock hits together. I would highly recommend Danielle for her guitar expertise and her easy-going nature.
As a person, I'm trying to stretch this thing out to 100 characters. The whole business seems disingenuous. I'll help you learn some guitar.
I am a trained guitar player with 16 years experience in writing, recording, performing, touring, and teaching. I have a rich background in a variety of styles of popular music and music theory. I have taken part in countless recording sessions for the past 16 years and have done session work for other musicians, had international write-ups and praise for various groups I've written and performed with over the years, as well as a background in bass guitar, piano, and voice as well. I currently have multiple private students and am looking forward to take on more. My lessons are appropriate for all age ranges, for the beginning and intermediate levels, and are tailored to the exact needs of the particular student in regards to physical exercises, music theory emphasis, and stylistic focus. I have an easy-going and friendly demeanor that people take an immediate liking to, and am incredibly supportive and patient with all my students in my goal to help them realize their musical potential. I also am a certified luthier from the prestigious Roberto Venn School of Luthiery in Phoenix, Az. A luthier in common terms is a guitar builder/repair person. This is an added bonus for my students due to the fact that I am qualified to upkeep and repair their instruments, which I do for free or at a discounted cost for students, depending on the nature of the upkeep/repair. While I have 16 years of experience and training, I am still relatively young (30 years of age) and still gig all around New England with a couple of rock groups. So, younger students are at ease with me and find they can relate to me and don't find me stuffy. Conversely, I handle myself in a professional manner, and am mature and well-spoken enough that older students are at ease around me as well, and will be pleased by my knowledge and appreciation of older, more timeless music as well. While I do not mind having students travel to my place for lessons, I do prefer to give the lessons at the customer's home in order to respect the privacy of my roommates. However, if the customer is not comfortable with the lessons taking place in their home, my home will suffice as it is quiet, drug-free and professional, and provides a pleasant atmosphere.
This is pretty much music as a second language. I teach reading music, music theory, the physical and aural aspects of guitar, ways around bad habits, righty and lefty, acoustic or electric. I have 42 years of playing and over 10 years of teaching.
I am looking to teach people how to get started up to some more advanced topic by making the material easy to understand .
I teach beginners rock, popular, older classics, R/B, and basically what the student wants to learn. Most of my teaching and my own playing is done on an electric guitar, but I can use an acoustic, if requested. I am mostly self-taught, so I know how it feels to start from nothing, but I have played for over 40 years. I look at each student's abilities and desires and come up with the best way to teach them; not everybody can go by the book. I am extremely patient and easygoing and allow the student to learn at a pace in which they feel comfortable. I have a comfortable studio in Pittsfield, but am willing to travel for an hourly fee. If my travel distance has exceeded, we can still talk. I serve the Berkshires and beyond.
I will teach anyone who wants to learn how to play the guitar. I can teach students chords, tablature, scales, some music theory, rhythm, and picking techniques. I like to play rock, blues, jazz, and some bluegrass/country stuff. I am no shredder, but I can pick out some tunes. Let me teach you if you are interested.
I have 50 years' experience in playing guitar. If you like what you hear on the website, I can help you learn to do it. I will help you learn to play the guitar, not play things on the guitar. I present a set of tools to allow to make the music you want. I am not a good teacher for someone interested in contemporary pop music or a complete beginner. I do not give weekly lessons. The intervals depend on the student. I can give enough in an hour to keep someone busy for many weeks. My fee is $50 per hour.
