Great experience moving! The two movers showed up right on time, packed everything securely in their truck (even going out of the way to extra wrap some items), and got everything into my nice place. The gentlemen were friendly and helpful the entire time, I highly recommend their service.

Name Yours Price Movers was ideal for our move from Southern Maryland to Virginia. They gave a clear estimate about the cost of the move and came in under budget. They arrived on time and packed the house remarkably fast. Additionally, the 3 men that arrived were incredibly polite and professional, making sure to take wonderful care of our things. They assembled and disassembled our large furniture flawlessly. Would definitely recommend!

These movers from Baku Moving are extremely professional. I have moved a few times and this is the best company that I had so far. Very punctual, working super fast, yet very careful not to make damage on furniture or in the apartment. The foreman and his team made this moving so less stressful. Also whatever extra request I had they said yes without hesitating, which can be challenging to find. I would definitely use this company again and I will most certainly recommend them.

My family and I couldn't have asked for a better experience than what Zebna Movers provided. From the initial in-home estimate to ultimate delivery of our household goods, the entire Zebna team provided top-notch service at an extremely competitive price. El Ibra, our moving liaison, was prompt, respectful, and truly did everything in his power to ensure that our last-minute move from Virginia to Florida went absolutely seamless. The actual moving team showed up ahead of schedule and worked tirelessly and efficiently to pack our entire 4+ bedroom home in a matter of hours. Since I was forced to remain in Virginia and finalize the sale of our house, the moving crew then traveled to Florida and went out of their way to make absolutely certain my pregnant wife had everything she needed; the team was comprised of genuinely considerate people. We honestly could not have accomplished this move without Zebna's exquisite service. Having requested quotes and meeting representatives from a number of moving companies, I am absolutely certain we made the right choice in selecting Zebna Movers.

Charlie and his team were awesome. I needed movers last minute for moving my 1bedroom apartment into another and he was able to move me the very next day. They were extremely friendly which I loved, and they had a great system to get everything done quickly. They really worked well together which made my moving process so smooth and quick. I already referred him to a family member who needs help moving equipment for his business (big job) :-) I will hire these great group of professionals again!

I called Proah Movers on a Monday and he was available almost immediately to move my items from a storage facility to my new apartment. We agreed upon a time and he called me to day before to confirm. He arrived on time and with another man and they moved quickly and handled everything carefully. I was pleased with the service and the price.

We hired Great Nation for an office move that included the complicating factors of a tiny loading dock, a busy city, junking half of the contents of our office and the need to store the other half of our belongings for a few weeks in-between moving out of our old office and in to our new office. I was dreading the move, but to be honest, it was the most seamless part of the relocation process. We received a very thorough estimate, the movers were always on time, they worked extremely hard and very quickly and everyone we interacted with at Great Nation could not have been nicer or more accommodating. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend hiring Great Nation for either an office or a personal relocation. Or storage! Or junk removal!

From booking the appointment to the final handshake after the move, everything was handled with the professionalism and polish that you would expect from this brand. The gentleman I dealt with over the phone, Ali, was friendly and courteous. This was the first move I have ever paid for. He was very good at explaining the policies and conditions of the move and making it feel more like a conversation instead of just exposition. Everything was handled and tailored to my needs. For instance, I could not start the move on the hour because I had to drop the kids to school in the morning, so they tailored this start time to suit my availability. Little things like that mean so much! If the booking was any indication of how the move was going to go, it was going to be a great experience -- and it was! Once it came to moving day, I met with David and his team. Everyone was very personable and went to great lengths to make sure I was comfortable. Again, the little things mean a big deal in a move. They were polite and any personal problems or attitudes that you would associate with movers (as is the stigma) were not present here at all. Not only was everything handled with all the care and empathy that you would want, but they worked great together as a team, and that is truly hard to find. Now I sit and think about it, they treated me like family and that was truly beyond my expectations! No move is without its problems and challenges. Turns out the place I was moving to only had one elevator which the property owner was aggressively insisting to not put the elevator on service! This could have easily been used by the hired movers to increase the move time ergo increase their final pay. This was not the case at all. David professionally communicated with the property owner, came to an mutual agreement for how the rest of the move will be completed and it was done in record time! They did not even take a break! There is no way any other company would have handled these challenges with the professionalism, care and teamwork that Skyride did that day. I wanted to move again just to have that experience. They are highly recommended!

Joseph was a TRUE GENTLEMAN. He and his associate went up and beyond the call of duty. When we ran into difficulties with the leasing office - ultimately resulting in canceling the move for the day (after their truck was packed), they unloaded our belongings BACK into the old place. We rescheduled for 2 days later - more difficulties. But, through it all, they were both pleasant and extremely easy to work with. I would recommend them to anyone who needs fast, courteous and reliable movers. Despite everything going on, they had us all laughing and making the best of a horrid situation. Thank you to Joseph and your associate! You guys are THE BEST!

We used Relocation Solutions, Inc. for our office move, and they were absolutely amazing! From the first site visit to working around problems leading up to the move, to dealing with people, and to mastering difficult situations (like blocked loading ramps) - Greg and his team provided stellar service! Estimates were spot-on, planning and communications were superb, and the team's invaluable can-do attitude turned this move into a great experience (and who can say that about a move!?). The moving crew was experienced, professional, courteous, careful, efficient, and FAST. Relocation Solutions left everybody impressed, including our landlord. We are very happy to have chosen Relocation Solutions. Even if you can find cheaper movers: a good mover makes all the difference- and that is what you get with Greg. Five stars for Relocation Solutions.

The salesman Pierre was helpful from beginning to end... His team of movers came in and saw a stress filled situation and jumped in to help us get done... The weather proved wet and they wrapped EVERYTHING to ensure it didn't get wet! They protected the floors. They had a challenging move over some rough ground and never complained or dropped anything. I rate this company as OUTSTANDING. Pick Up Movers will be the First call when we move again.

My two movers showed up and gave 100% the entire time they were there! Would definitely recommend this company to my friends. The only negative I have is that on Thumbtack and my responses the price states $89 and yet when I went to website is say $99. When I asked about it, I was told that the price they quoted was wrong and they still charged me the $99. They should either change the price on here or honor the price they advertised.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
