Ed Bilo and his team did an amazing job on our house! We had all types of weeds, ivy, and just plain old nature growing on our home, and even through the walls. I had to plant trees, install sprinkler system, pave walkway. I did some research to find some landscapers. Finally found EBRR and Ed gave us the best price, got it done in a day and did a great job to make sure it does not grow back. I would highly recommend using EBRR Property Maintenance Services and I am thrilled with the work that Ed and his team did. Thank you so so much!

We had Victor and company remove 4 bushes from our front yard. They had become diseased and were a real eyesore. In a little over an hour, Victor solved all of our woes at a very fair price. I also appreciated that he drove to the house and gave me an estimate within an hour of our initial contact. It was only a mere 23 hours from the time of our first meeting til project completion. Would definitely use again for landscaping projects.

I'm tremendously optimistic about my new Longterm relationship with Del Ray Landscaping. I put of a request on Monday, met with the owner on Wednesday and his Team are at work as I type this review. Punctual, professional, tremendously skilled, and he not only manicures my lawn, but he takes ownership of its appearance. If this week is indicative of what's to come, I believe that I'm finally found my landscaping company.

I hired Hernandez Company to remodel a half bath. It was not a simple, straight forward demo and replace; they had to do some custom modifications. They did an excellent and timely job. I would recommend them and I will definitely use them for future projects.

I cannot say enough about Hayden Lovell. He was professional, courteous, trustworthy, prompt and, most of all, he had the expertise and creativity to offer sound advice. He took our ideas and made them better. He was fairly priced. The gentleman who accompanied him for the job was also experienced, knowledgeable and offered sound advice. We are looking forward to having Hayden return to do more landscaping and design projects for us. (Our neighbor also hired him!)

If you're searching for a professional landscaper who is communicative, efficient and certain to get the job you want completed in short order, then look no further. P&P is a fantastic company to work with. They did a fantastic job adding shrubs to our front yard and re-leveling our back patio that was poorly installed originally and settled drastically. Highly recommend them for any landscape or hardscape work.

Alonsso and his crew have been absolutely phenomenal! He has clearly communicated, helped with ideas, has worked quickly and above all is a genuine person who has not tried to up sell! We have had his company remove TONS of plants, shrubs and trees, transfer some of them to new locations, plant multiple items, do a spring cleaning and mow and maintain our lawn and landscaping!! We board dogs at our home, and over time, our gates weakened; one a walk-thru gate, another a double drive-thru gate. KG Yardworx was one of many we considered to replace our gates, but hands down we were very impressed in Kelcey's enthusiasm and interest in working with us with alternate materials and custom design. We provided Kelcey several pictures from Houzz and Pinterest of our gate concepts, and together we came up with a most original sturdy gate for both entrances. Both gates were completed timely and to our specifications, with literally hundreds of views within days of being posted! Kelcey's coming back for more of our projects.

Green Art was amazing! Francisco was on time, professional, friendly, and did incredible work. The hostas that he originally planted were not growing, and he came back and replaced them at 7pm one evening. We will be using him for ALL of our landscaping!

Maynor and his team came and did our estimate and then his team came two days later to complete the work. We had two trees cut down and a ton of landscaping in the front and back. They were fast, courteous, efficient, and went above and beyond what I expected. We will definitely be using them again for our landscaping/ tree service needs. I highly recommend them.

These young men were polite, efficient and hard working. They are not trained landscapers, and may need a degree of guidance from the home owner -- we had a minor misunderstanding about what to weed and what not to -- but they behave in a professional adult manner and do very good work. I would absolutely hire them again, or recommend them to friends and neighbors.

Matt and his crew did a great job on my short-notice landscaping (drainage control). He assessed the drainage issues my property was experiencing and provide a clear and concise solution for a fair price. He worked with local utility companies to efficiently install sub-surface piping thus ensuring my property retained it's value. I strongly recommend AEL for your drainage control projects.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
