I first met Joe Lee in 2011 when I spent seven days with him as we traveled with the Wreaths Across America convoy from Maine to Arlington National Cemetery. Joe conducted himself with the utmost professionalism at each of our many stops along the way. He captured the special moments on audio, video and in still shots enabling me to recount the entire trip as if I was there in person again. This past July, Joe flew to Minneapolis to volunteer as the photographer and videographer for a two day memorial event held in honor of my son, an Army Ranger KIA in 2009. The morning of the first day, my house was struck by lightning and a fire ensued. Joe lost some of his equipment but quickly replaced it on his own so he could still do what he came to. This was a chaotic situation that others may have become discouraged from, but not Joe! He stayed the course and never faltered from his commitment. Joe Lee is not only very professional, he is a very personable guy whose positive presence will add to any event. Highly recommend!

I searched thoroughly for a videographer to film a bridal shower and received lots of quotes. I look at many past projects of several videographers and I decided on Ronnie because of the great editing shown throught his previous work and his quick responsiveness to any questions/concerns. I never had to wait more than 15mins to hear back from him although he had other projects! Communication is extremely important to me and I give him an A++ on that. I never base my decisions strictly on price but Ronnie's rates are excellent!! He was laid back & cool, he blended in with my guest and didn't disrupt our event in any way. He got the job done and went the extra mile to accommodate us on very short notice and adjusted his plan to still film in nonstop rain! As a result, we have an awesome highlight video of our entire day that he edited without complaint until we were 100% happy!!! He's going to be my go-to videographer for any local events that we plan and/or host!! Thank you, thank ypu, thank you Ronnie! 😊

I requested a videographer the Wednesday before my Saturday wedding reception. FAS Filming showed up an hour before my reception started to film my guests arriving. He edited the video and made it available to me in less than 2 weeks!! It would have been quicker if I would have provided them the information they requested in a more timely manner. I was very pleased with the finished product. My husband and I have watched the video twice!

Eric was an amazing find. I was on the fence about getting a videographer mainly because of the high cost. Eric was a third of the price of most other videographers I contacted and provided more service than any of their golden packages. He was phenomenal! I can't say enough about how great he was to work with. He made us feel at ease in front of the camera, he gave great direction and I just saw my highlight reel (only a couple of days after the wedding!) and it is the more beautiful than I could ever imagine. His talent is out of this world! People have asked me if he travels to do videography, that is just how good he is. You will not go wrong by hiring Eric as your videographer. One of the best decisions I ever made!! Thanks Eric!

On July 17th I found Thumbtack and placed a request searching for a Videographer for my daughter's wedding to be held on July 28th. I had 5 or 6 respond to this request with availability. Mark was the first to respond. His response was very detailed as to what he provided, he included his website link and a quicklink to one of the highlight video's he had produced for another wedding. We scheduled a time with Mark to speak over the phone and were very happy with all his responses to our many (and I mean many) questions. This was our first time hiring a videographer and my daughter had waited till the very last minute to make the decision she wanted to do the video as well as a photographer. Not only were his prices very competitive (well he was the lowest offer of the 6) but his responsiveness to us was amazing. When our day arrived Mark was early to arrive to the venue, he asked for a quick tour which I provided and he met with Tabitha (my daughter) and I to go over his plans and preparations he was making - weather was coming and he wanted to be sure to capture the outside venue shots early so not to miss those (which was perfect because there was a constant downpour from 3 pm until well after the wedding was over). I had guests ask me numerous times throughout the day and into the night where we found the videographer. That he seemed to be everywhere all the time. My daughter even made the comment that he was perfect, and was thinking about pictures/video she hadn't even seen in all her various reviews of highlights (she was by that time addicted to looking at highlights). As the night drew to an end Mark quietly faded away and left during the packup of the wedding party. He was the best. We just received the video highlight to share with friends and family, and I will tell you not only is it completely perfect but Mark managed to capture the essence of the 12 hours he was with us amazingly. He captured moments I didn't see first hand for various reasons (distracted by grandsons running around or guests wishing us well). The highlight video though short in time is major in impact. I cried once again through the whole thing, and have the several times I've watched it. If this is that good the full length can be nothing short of amazing. I would (and will since my son is still to be married in the future) hire Life Reflecting Images (Mark) over and over for any special occasion that warrants a video touch. He is unobtrusive in his manner (never in the way or overbearing - he never gave direction but rather worked with our family as they came :) ), he is professional in every way (walking around that pesky other Mother of the bride who had her own camera and video phone app rather than doing what I would do which is push her away), and most of all he captured the most important moments of my daughters (she's really my step daughter I am just the step-mom who would have blown the clouds away to make my daughters day perfect and would have paid whatever it took to make this happen as well) in a manner that I don't think anyone else could have. You will never regret hiring Mark from Life Reflecting Images, he is just simply the nicest and best we could have found. Thank you Mark and till our next event continued success in everything you do. Susan White -

Jason could not have been more accommodating and professional. I had him film a presentation I gave and he showed up with patience and flexibility of the space, sound, audience, etc. I was impressed that he showed up dressed so sharply with a tie and hat. I didn't expect this and was proud to have such a professional videographer who really valued the venue and overall experience. The people who invited me to speak could see the level of quality in choosing a good person to film the event. The quality of the final product was fantastic and he even made a few edits after I viewed it to add in the slide images in addition to me in front of camera. All communication was thorough and made me feel that he definitely understood my vision. I will be using him again in the future.

It is truly rare to find a professional who is an expert at what they do, humble, smart and innovative in what they do, plans ahead, is cool under pressure, and is in general a great human being - Adam Martray embodies this in what he does. After shopping around for months to find the best price and quality (12+ videographers looked at), Adam clearly stood out from his initial communication and lived up to his high quality standards in wedding pre-planning, day of execution, and afterward regarding edits, flexibility, superb quality, and professionalism. I will recommend Adam to everyone who asks me for years to come and have the video evidence to prove it, but also the personal evidence interacting with him to have no doubts about recommending him as the best quality and price for any videographer request in the DMV area (or anywhere he travels to!). Could not be happier with the entire interaction over months with Adam and I bet you will feel the same way. No need to look any further, you found the gem you're looking for in Adam Martray Event Videography!

Intentional Visuals provided wedding videography services for our wedding this past June. We LOVE the highlight video Kevin edited for us and the raw footage. Kevin was very professional, affordable and did a great job. We are so happy we decided to capture video of the day! I've been to many weddings were the photographers and videographers seemed to be competing with each other for shots, and would be in the way if the guests. This was NOT the case at all with Intentional Visuals. In fact, several of my guests commented later how well our videoprapher and photographer worked together to coordinate shots, and many had thought that they worked together regularly, when in reality they were from 2 different companies and they hadn't met until they got to the venue for the wedding! We couldn't be happier with how things turned out; I highly recommend Intentional Visuals for wedding videography!!

Over the past two months, our company has hired Matt to fill in for one of our videographers. Matt has performed exceptionally well. The video quality he produces is beyond reproach and his pricing is very attractive as well. Our clients are very pleased with Matt's attention to get details and his artistic take on capturing each moment of their events. Even more, we have hired Matt for a few other future events. Thanks Matt for your outstanding service.

I hired Scene Clearly Films to film my boyfriend's surprise 40th birthday party. Darryl and his team were a joy to work with! They were incredibly professional and timely. I was quite busy during the party planning process, as well afterward, but Darryl was very accommodating. He made some very helpful recommendations, including having two videographers onsite - which allowed them to capture the party from multiple angles. The end product was gorgeous and seamless. I also needed them to create a promotional video for my business, and they did a fantastic job. I will definitely be hiring this company again for future work, especially as I get started in rolling out my new event planning business! Thanks Darryl and team for capturing so many memories!

Great Wedding Videographers. Before the Wedding day Phil communicated with me and stayed up to date with our planning. Phil and his crew arrived early and began filming footage an hour before the wedding started which they don't charge for. Keepsake Sound Video produced a wonderful DVD that we will have to cherish for many years to come. They not only gave us a feature film but a beautiful highlight video with great music overlay and a photo slide show with music overlay which we were not even expecting. Great quality and great Production. Fast turnaround (2 weeks) and Features that anyone would want to have for their Wedding. I'm so happy that we hired Keepsake Sound Video!

As a newcomer to wedding videography, Nathan and 360! Productions did a very nice job on our video. They prepared a 4-5 minute highlight video of the wedding/reception that truly captured the essence of the event. We decided late in the process to get a videographer so we did not have high expectations. The highlights video met our needs. The raw footage, the second deliverable of the contract did not have the flow desired of the wedding itself. The wedding is a series of clips v. a full video of the wedding. Nathan had 2 videographers. They were both professional and on time.

Bryan is an incredible videographer! We decided at the tail end of our engagement to have video of the wedding and Bryan did not disappoint! He listened to what we were looking for, and was attentive and responsive through out the entire process. My family and I love the videos. I gave one to my parents and another to my MIL, and they cried watching it. Bryan captured the love, energy, and essence of our special day!

Jaime filmed my mother's Mass of Christian Burial and provided us with a youtube link, so that we were able to share it with her family in Australia. He and his co-videographer were unobtrusive during the service, and the final video is beautiful - something to be treasured forever. Jaime was professional and supportive to work with during a difficult time. I would highly recommend him.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.
