I cannot recommend Stephanie highly enough. We hired Stephanie to look after our 1 year old cat for a two week period and a one week period over the past couple months and both times Stephanie did an excellent job. She checked in on our cat every day, spent time with him and sent us updates. Most recently, we ran out of wet food for our cat and she ended up bringing that exact same brand with her, which was very generous. She watered plants, and looked after our home very very well. In addition, she's a very friendly person and genuinely cares about the animals she's caring for. If you need a pet sitter, look no further! We surely haven't. : )

Having quality care for the pet that I love so very much, required much research and someone who genuinely cares about my loved one. After looking for quite some time for a local pet sitter, I was blessed to have found Walking with Renzo & Ruby! My dog and I were one of the lucky ones that got the Renzo & Ruby experience! Their amazing owner Natasha is top notch and is very accomodating. She met all the needs that I asked for and more! Natasha welcomed us to a break the ice session. Mink and I were invited over to meet Renzo & Ruby to help with my dogs socialization skills, this helped with Mink's aprehesion she sometimes has with other dogs. Natasha offered the in home care and drop by visits if I needed it. I was assured that my dog would do fine in her home or mine because Renzo & Ruby were very good about sharing their space! Mink's nervousness diminished as she warmed up to Natasha and the introduction to her babies Renzo & Ruby, prior to her stay! I was elated and impressed at the attentiveness being displayed. While on vacation, Natasha sent the cutest pictures of Mink on the ride over and while warming up to her dogs! I will definitely recommend her services to anyone who is looking for superior care for their pet/s. Thank you Natasha! Alindia

Our very first experience with a pet sitter - and Donna made it so easy! She made me feel comfortable leaving my 3 cats home alone. She stopped by every day, administered medicines (all 3 have hairball issues and one is asthmatic), scooped the litter box, fed my babies and even played with them! I just loved getting a photo of each kitty - each day! I was able to relax knowing she had things under control. Honestly, it was so nice knowing that Donna was stopping by, she handled everything just as I would have. I highly recommend her services!

Our fur babies (4-year old Lab Mix (w/anxiety issues) and 10-year old Puggle) spent the weekend with Cupid Pets sitters Bruce and Mary Lou and their lovely puppy Phoebe! Our pups had a blast!!! So much so, they didn’t want to leave when it came time to pick them up. We will certainly be using Cupid Pets service again for dog sitting and walking in the future!

Oh my goodness, Jenny was the best, and affordable compared to DC area dog sitters. She had Pet Vet Background, so she's on top of everything, especially if your dog has meds. Sounds as if she was totally on top of walks and such. I will be using her again for our dog Daisy, hoping she doesn't become super popular from this positive review and others' reviews. I asked her if she would want to.watch my Teens too! (ha ha)

I had two senior Yorkies and one had special needs. Their pet sitter always provided professional and exceptional services. She would always provide care that met their individual needs and thus provided reassurance to working pet parents.

NoMa Pet Walking and Care is amazing. Very professional and treated my dog as one of their own pets. He's a little persnickety and doesn't like strangers at the other end of the leash but he adapted very quickly and was showing off his toys and cooperating with the NoMa Walker very quickly. Good team and very communicative. First class and I strongly recommend!

Kim is very professional and sweet, she took care of my kitty cat and chinchilla while we were away for our wedding. I have an incredibly needy cat but he wasn't super desperate when we got home so I could tell he had enough attention. We then used Kim to check on the house and chinchilla while away for our honeymoon. I usually worry a lot about my animals and can get a bit anxious but she was very understanding and I felt relieved to have her with them. I left my cat at a friend's house for our honeymoon but I think if we go on another long trip I will just ask Kim to come back. She has even brought in packages for us and made an extra stop to turn off my ridiculous house alarm so the beeping noise wouldn't bother my chinchilla. Highly recommend. (Oh and she is one of the only pet sitters we have had who isn't scared of the chinchilla. I can tell she is a real animal lover)

Highly recommended pet sitter. Shaki went above and beyond our expectations for taking care of our cats while we were out of town. She sent us videos and pictures of them to warm our hearts and pictures of all the completed duties around the house. She even watered our plants! We'll definitely be calling her again and recommending her to our friends/neighbors.

When I met Kevin my expectations were low for my dog. He seemed to be pretty much out of control and I was told by several other trainers that his breed could not be trained. When Kevin came in the first day he got my dog to sit and actually follow a command. He accomplished more in one day then other trainers did in months. As the time went on I saw my dog's Behavior change drastically. He became an overall better dog and seemed much happier. Also as he was training Kevin trained me as well. I realize that I was doing a lot wrong and that was the cause of a lot of his behaviors. I realized in order for my dog to be better I had to be a better owner. All of this I learned from Kevin. I thought I was a dog whisperer until he showed me the right way to do it. Highly recommend Kevin because he doesn't have a method where one fits all. He takes the time out to learn your dog and customize the training. He also educates himself all things animals. You can contact him and get advice on just about anything for your pet. And if he doesn't know at that moment he will find out for you. It's hard to find people who Do It For the Love of Animals. Kevin is one that clearly has a connection with animals that allows you to be comfortable with him and the care of your dog. Having Kevin train your pet would be the best thing you can do for your family.

We are very happy with Loudoun Pet Care. Tyler came over for a consultation and he listened to what we were looking for in a dog walker and was very professional and nice. Our dog immediately loved him. Every day we get an update with a GPS imagine of where he took our dog walking and the amount of time he walked her. Tyler is very responsive if you need him. Overall we are extremely satisfied with his service and are very thankful to him. I highly recommend Loudoun Pet Care.

Debbie provided outstanding care of my cats, and did all she said, sending video clips and photos and text updates on how they were. She was caring and attentive, and they responded threefold. I've not ever had such a worry-free time with a professional pet sitter and will most definitely work with her company again in the future.

My pet sitter was Gray Akers, and I left her in charge of three elderly cats for AN ENTIRE YEAR. I never worried once. When I came back all was good, and even after she wasn't pet sitting, she came by to help me trim toenails!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
