FAQs
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
What does the student want to get out of instrument lessons? Some useful things to think about: What types of musical pieces is the student drawn to? Is learning to read music a high priority for the student? Is the student interested in playing by ear, without having to read music? Does the student want to jam with others, play in an orchestra, perform solos, or just play for his/her own enjoyment? Does the student want to dabble for now, or achieve expertise as quickly as possible? If you want your teacher to provide all the direction, s/he certainly can. But I encourage all music students to take a hand in steering their own educations. Saying something like, "I'd really love to be able to play in a folk ensemble" is not rude!
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
I wish every student of a private music teacher knew that when your teacher gets pickier and pickier, this is a sign of your wonderful progress. Your teacher will probably even tell you this. It's not just to make you feel better - it's the truth!
