Mr. Robert came a week ago. I purposefully waited a week to give my feedback. The reason being is that I wanted to be sure Ben or Mickey didn't come back....and they haven't! I'm scared to type it...praying...BUT, "I'm mouse free!!" Mr. Robert was friendly, kind, supportive (didn't take my concerns lightly) and very thorough. He looked everywhere I asked JUST to make sure and it helped to easy my anxiety. Mr. Robert patched/filled holes, told me what to buy for my "control" stash, and he shared with my son why he didn't have to be afraid. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who has pest/insect control needs. Thank you Mr. Robert for making me and my son feel "home" again.

Pest Proof - Eric Littlejohn - treated our basement and addition crawl space for camel/cave crickets. He was very thorough in applying both wet and dry pesticides. Additionally, Eric made a personal call to our house to investigate our situation and discuss his methods before sending a proposal. There was no hard-sell for long term contracts or additional services we did not need. He followed up with a written proposal via email and because of his professional manner and reasonable pricing we hired him. My guess is that he will be our "go-to" for pest control services in the future.

Great service, I had termites and Ej came several weeks back and treated the location for termites. I have not seen anything since. With 5 kids writing a review took me a while but I promise you will not be disappointed by Ej's Pest Control.

The job Alex Manzano performed for me was installation of sod in the front yard. Alex did the work as promised, on schedule, and responded quickly to any concerns I had following the initial work. Alex also took the initiative to stop by on occasion to check the new sod for possible problems. He recommended a lawn service for initial care, including fertilizing and weed control. Alex was always willing to listen and to provide any helpful information.

Pest Quest responded immediately to my query about same-day service for a sudden, acute yellow-jacket problem, and was able to come out exactly when I'd hoped. Greg was on-time, found the source of the problem in only a couple of minutes of observation, explained how he would treat it, and afterwards gave me instructions on how to follow up safely with his treatment. Pest Quest is now my go-to pest control service.

Potomac pest and termite has to be by far the best pest control contractor I’ve had the pleasure of working with. John was very friendly and took the time to not only eliminate our severe ant infestation, but to also educate my wife and I on how to prevent them from coming back in the future. Top notch service from a local business!!!!

A $225 job turned into $1,659 after several other recommendations were made. Not being an exterminator, I really have no way of knowing whether all of them were really necessary or not so I trusted Serge was giving me sound recommendations. Serge and his guy were very professional and really have an extensive list of abilities beyond just pest control. They even threw in a couple of little jobs at no cost because they could do them quickly while they were here!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do pest control companies do?

Pest control companies handle all aspects of bug, rodent and animal extermination or removal. Pest control professionals visit your home or office to identify the type of pest that is troubling you and offer various treatment plans — complete with clearly outlined costs. Once you and the pest control company have a signed agreement, the pro will begin treatment. Pest treatment can range from the use of spray pesticides and gel bait to live and/or kill traps. There are a wide range of types of pesticides, many of them nontoxic for humans and other small animals. This means you may be able to have your home treated for pests without harming nearby wildlife or your dog and cat. The pest control pro will carry out the treatment plan and, depending on the service agreement, provide follow-up such as emptying traps, inspecting access points, or reapplying pesticide spray if the pests return. Costs will vary based on the type of pest you are having removed and the extent of the infestation. The average national pest control price range is $80-$130. From a minor bedbug event to an entire home termite infestation, pest control companies have got you covered.

How do you get bed bugs and how do you get rid of them?

The increase in bed bug infestations in the U.S. is a result of increased travel, lack of knowledge about preventing infestations, increased resistance of bed bugs to pesticides, and ineffective pest control practices, explains the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It’s easy to mistake bed bugs for carpet beetles or similar-looking bugs, so infestations are often not noticed when they first occur. Prevention tips include keeping areas free of clutter, regularly washing sheets and mattress covers in hot water (and don’t forget to wash the laundry bag, too), and vacuuming regularly and safely disposing of the sealed vacuum bag. Not everyone has reactions to bed bug bites, which also may be mistaken for the bites of other pests such as mosquitoes, so timely bed bug extermination depends on identification of bed bug activity. If you notice physical signs of an infestation, contact a bed bug extermination professional as soon as possible to learn about chemical and non-chemical (such as heat) treatment options. An integrated pest management plan may incorporate one or more methods.

How much does it cost to remove a mouse?

If you have a mouse in your house you’re probably quickly researching pest control costs. Mice, although tiny, can transmit diseases and also get into your food and leave unsanitary droppings around your home. If you have seen one mouse in your house, it’s likely that more have taken up residence in your crawl space, attic or basement. The national average pest control cost is $150-$200. Costs can vary depending on whether you need to get rid of a population of living mice or just dispose of a dead mouse (or full traps), how extensive the mouse population is, and where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pest control cost for removing a mouse:

  • $150 for initial trap setup and inspection (and sealing of entry holes).
    • $50 for rodent removal service calls and emptying of traps. This visit can also include identifying and sealing entry points that were not sealed on the first visit.
  • Rodent extermination: $110-$350, depending on how heavy the rodent population is, whether the mouse infestation poses health risks, how many entrances exist and how many rodent bait stations are needed.

How much does it cost to kill bed bugs?

The cost of bed bug extermination depends primarily on how widespread the pest infestation is and how many rooms need to be treated. Other factors that can affect bed bug extermination costs are the amount of clutter in the location, additional furniture that needs to be treated, and construction of the home. Pest management professionals often have rates for room treatments, which can vary based on these factors. As an example, a pest management company treating a 10-by-15-foot room with light infestation might charge clients about $250, while the same size room with a heavy infestation and large amounts of clutter might cost the clients $300-$400. Clutter and heavier bed bug populations mean more product and longer labor time for the workers. Rates will vary from company to company, and from region to region, but the national average bed bug extermination cost is $320-$400. Bed bug heat treatments are an alternative way to exterminate these pests. Heat treatments are typically charged per square foot and tend to cost more than chemical or non-chemical spray solutions. Although effective, they are not usually recommended for occupied spaces, as the extreme temperatures can damage televisions, window dressings and other home furnishings.

How much does it cost to treat a house for termites?

Termites are not only creepy-crawly, they can literally eat your house out from underneath you. Termites feed on damp and dry wood and can chomp through your house at an alarming rate. The national average pest control cost for termite extermination is $240-$400. Treatment costs can be higher for an extensive infestation. Here are some examples of average pest control costs for termites:

  • Liquid treatment of subterranean termites: $3-$4 per linear foot.
    • For $75 per year, a company may offer a maintenance plan that provides inspection of the property and renewal of the warranty.
  • Liquid treatment of subterranean termites: approximately $400 for a 2,000-square-foot home at $3-$5 per linear foot.
    • The price is higher for additional work such as foaming and drilling inside of concrete slabs.
  • Fumigation treatment of drywood termites: $1,200-$1,500 for a 30,000- to 35,000-cubic-foot home
    • Fumigation is measured in cubic feet because it fills the airspace of the home and infiltrates the wood that the termites may be colonizing. The cost of fumigation is affected by the number of levels in the home as well as the square footage.
