I first met Joe Lee in 2011 when I spent seven days with him as we traveled with the Wreaths Across America convoy from Maine to Arlington National Cemetery. Joe conducted himself with the utmost professionalism at each of our many stops along the way. He captured the special moments on audio, video and in still shots enabling me to recount the entire trip as if I was there in person again. This past July, Joe flew to Minneapolis to volunteer as the photographer and videographer for a two day memorial event held in honor of my son, an Army Ranger KIA in 2009. The morning of the first day, my house was struck by lightning and a fire ensued. Joe lost some of his equipment but quickly replaced it on his own so he could still do what he came to. This was a chaotic situation that others may have become discouraged from, but not Joe! He stayed the course and never faltered from his commitment. Joe Lee is not only very professional, he is a very personable guy whose positive presence will add to any event. Highly recommend!

I searched thoroughly for a videographer to film a bridal shower and received lots of quotes. I look at many past projects of several videographers and I decided on Ronnie because of the great editing shown throught his previous work and his quick responsiveness to any questions/concerns. I never had to wait more than 15mins to hear back from him although he had other projects! Communication is extremely important to me and I give him an A++ on that. I never base my decisions strictly on price but Ronnie's rates are excellent!! He was laid back & cool, he blended in with my guest and didn't disrupt our event in any way. He got the job done and went the extra mile to accommodate us on very short notice and adjusted his plan to still film in nonstop rain! As a result, we have an awesome highlight video of our entire day that he edited without complaint until we were 100% happy!!! He's going to be my go-to videographer for any local events that we plan and/or host!! Thank you, thank ypu, thank you Ronnie! 😊

I requested a videographer the Wednesday before my Saturday wedding reception. FAS Filming showed up an hour before my reception started to film my guests arriving. He edited the video and made it available to me in less than 2 weeks!! It would have been quicker if I would have provided them the information they requested in a more timely manner. I was very pleased with the finished product. My husband and I have watched the video twice!

“After careful review and checking references, we were very excited about hiring the Shaffer team. They listed their firm as “award-winning.” Both Dan and Tami were courteous and pleasant as we planned our conference. Unfortunately, the end result – the raw camera footage—did not meet expectations. During the room setup, we expected them to optimize the lighting—especially since the room had many large picture windows. We told them about the room layout many weeks in advance of our conference. We had planned in advance for them to record some short interviews during break times. The interview footage contained many unnecessary shadows and sunlight glare, resulting in several hours of additional costly editing time. When we expressed concern, their response was: “we would have had to have had three cameras on it and about an hour and half to set up the proper lighting. We were doing this job at a discount as it is and to make it look TV ready would have required additional equipment at higher rates.” We would have preferred that they told us about these restrictions or extra charges prior to the event. We also had the ability to move furniture and reduce the glare and shadows in the room, but they did not offer any suggestions. When we hire professional videographers, we expect them to be proactive, and travel with basic lighting equipment. We also expect them to recommend room layout and lighting changes when they set up the stage. This was not our experience.”

It is truly rare to find a professional who is an expert at what they do, humble, smart and innovative in what they do, plans ahead, is cool under pressure, and is in general a great human being - Adam Martray embodies this in what he does. After shopping around for months to find the best price and quality (12+ videographers looked at), Adam clearly stood out from his initial communication and lived up to his high quality standards in wedding pre-planning, day of execution, and afterward regarding edits, flexibility, superb quality, and professionalism. I will recommend Adam to everyone who asks me for years to come and have the video evidence to prove it, but also the personal evidence interacting with him to have no doubts about recommending him as the best quality and price for any videographer request in the DMV area (or anywhere he travels to!). Could not be happier with the entire interaction over months with Adam and I bet you will feel the same way. No need to look any further, you found the gem you're looking for in Adam Martray Event Videography!

I would highly recommend Danglinn Productions for your wedding videography needs! Andrew was extremely professional and very responsive to all of my emails and telephone calls. He was able to accommodate all of my requests to provide exactly what I was hoping for in our wedding video! The actual videographers were Ryan Deal and his wife, Amber, both of which were extremely friendly and professional. They arrived early, stayed late, and were there to capture every single wedding detail that I could've hoped for. They had never shot video at the Naval Academy before, but still captured every important detail and feature of the Chapel like they had filmed there a million times. I didn't even realize they were there half the time so it was a huge treat to watch the video and see all of the amazing details and moments they caught on tape. Andrew Linn did the editing and produced the actual wedding video and highlight clip. His work was absolutely impeccable!! He included all of the important moments and events with perfect transitions between everything. I couldn't be more pleased with the final product and am so happy to be able to watch the videos and relive the best day of my life forever!!

Over the past two months, our company has hired Matt to fill in for one of our videographers. Matt has performed exceptionally well. The video quality he produces is beyond reproach and his pricing is very attractive as well. Our clients are very pleased with Matt's attention to get details and his artistic take on capturing each moment of their events. Even more, we have hired Matt for a few other future events. Thanks Matt for your outstanding service.

As a newcomer to wedding videography, Nathan and 360! Productions did a very nice job on our video. They prepared a 4-5 minute highlight video of the wedding/reception that truly captured the essence of the event. We decided late in the process to get a videographer so we did not have high expectations. The highlights video met our needs. The raw footage, the second deliverable of the contract did not have the flow desired of the wedding itself. The wedding is a series of clips v. a full video of the wedding. Nathan had 2 videographers. They were both professional and on time.

Bryan is an incredible videographer! We decided at the tail end of our engagement to have video of the wedding and Bryan did not disappoint! He listened to what we were looking for, and was attentive and responsive through out the entire process. My family and I love the videos. I gave one to my parents and another to my MIL, and they cried watching it. Bryan captured the love, energy, and essence of our special day!

Who to work with in creating your music video is a very important step in your career. I sat on the fence for a while and after realizing that I needed to jump off of the fence, I called Jiwon at G1 Studios. I'm glad I did. It was an amazing experience. My suggestion to everyone is to jump off of the fence knowing that Jiwon @ G1 Studios is there to catch you.

I have worked with Doug Thomas on the two highest profile events I have had to date in my current position. I first learned of Doug from a list of recommended videographers provided to me by our communications team at George Washington University. I was so impressed with the finished product he delivered from our first alumni weekend reception, that i asked that he work with me again the following year. Doug is a professional that does not need to be micro-managed. When i outlined what I wanted in the final video, he met those expectations and also gave me more than i had anticipated. I recommend him highly.

Jaime filmed my mother's Mass of Christian Burial and provided us with a youtube link, so that we were able to share it with her family in Australia. He and his co-videographer were unobtrusive during the service, and the final video is beautiful - something to be treasured forever. Jaime was professional and supportive to work with during a difficult time. I would highly recommend him.

Mike Gilley is an excellent videographer, one that understands the concepts and ideals of cinematography, composition, and production value. Mike was hired through my multimedia studio to film many hours of summer camps for a local college. These videos would go on to be the marketing and promotional materials that the college have since shared through social media, television commercials, and web campaigns. Without Mike's great technique in filming and understanding of the project at hand, my job editing and putting together an amazing marketing campaign for the college wouldn't have been as easy or fruitful. On a side note, he is also great at video editing as we've worked together on projects many of times before. Usually, I love the editing part, but he also has a great understanding of Adobe Premiere, among other Adobe Creative Suite Programs. If you are looking for a great videographer, I highly suggest Mike for the job.

Really great to work with and super adaptable - I needed videography for professional dance performances, which isn't an easy task for a videographer who never worked with dancers and artistic movement. Patrick and his team took all the constructive criticism in a very efficient and positive manner and nailed it! Definitely recommend!

From start to finish, OPUS was one of our absolute favorite wedding vendors. They were extremely accommodating, professional and friendly. Joe was our day to day contact and responded to emails immediately every time, which was greatly appreciated when wedding planning and managing a lot of vendors! Alejandro was our day of videographer and he won the hearts of our entire wedding party and family members. He was so much fun and kept everyone feeling relaxed and natural around the camera. He worked so well with our photographer and captured the best shots of the day without a doubt. Last but not least - our wedding video is absolutely stunning. Everyone that has viewed it is completely amazed by the quality and the amount of incredible moments OPUS captured. We have watched it hundreds of times and still have not gotten tired of it. We highly recommend OPUS as your wedding videographer - when I tell you we interviewed A LOT, we did - and we couldn't be happier to have landed with them!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

      • Package 1: $1,400
        • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
        • Two cameras with audio equipment.
        • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
        • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
      • Package 2: $1,800
        • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
