I worked with Carey. She was very professional and courteous. After her initial introduction and a few minutes filming me one on one, I completely forgot her team was even there. They did not get in the way of the wedding at all and she worked well with my photographer as well. I am so glad I decided to use a videographer because there were so many aspects of the day that I just could not see happening. I'm looking forward to watching the finished video . I will get to relive that beautiful day all over again .

Judy and her assistant Dave were simply amazing! Our wedding photos are breathtakingly beautiful! I am so surprised at how much footage they were able to capture, half the time we weren't even aware of their presence! Judy is so easygoing and great to work with! I am so thankful we used Anderson Studios! They made everything so easy and at an affordable price!

We hired Walton Specialty video to film our wedding this past October. Both Bill and his wife Trevay were friendly, professional, creative and got the job done at an affordable price! Bill was very easy to work with, remained flexible and was a great communicator throughout our planning. We planned our Detroit wedding from Charleston SC and even had to evacuate for a hurricane just a week before the wedding! Bill laid out his idea for the day’s activities and it even included a pre-wedding interview where myself and husband to be described the day we met and how we got engaged. It was so sweet! I didn’t have anything like that in mind! As the bridal party was getting ready at the hotel, Bill arrived to set up his cameras for the ceremony and found that he the church was still locked. He called to let me know but I couldn’t get a hold of the key until a short time before the ceremony. Despite being locked out, Bill and Trevay were able to set up all the cameras and microphones just before our guests arrived! Of course he and his wife filmed the entire ceremony and the reception at a separate location as well. They also filmed the church and surrounding historical area and used it as the intro to the video- it was beautifully done! They also filmed our family and friends well wishes for the bride and groom which was a great way to wrap up the video! To top it all off, the package we received had leather bound case for our video and also a few extra discs for our family and friends! All in all, Bill and Trevay did a wonderful job capturing our big day and we could not be happier with our video!!! We look forward to watching our wedding day video on every anniversary to come!!!

I hired David to photograph two kitchens with skylight installations in the metro Detroit area. The challenge of this job was for him to work around a video shooter who was also documenting the space. David worked well around the video shooter and delivered some beautiful photos. He was easy to work with, turned around his price estimate quickly and was thorough in his preparation for the shoot. Thanks, David for the nice work!

Qvision worked with us to develop a plan for a video to capture a complex community development process. Quenton gave great advice as we prepared in advance, he and his team were professional and efficient during the filming, and he produced a great first cut that really helped us see what the piece could accomplish. As a first effort for our organization, we asked for a lot in terms of edits, adding new content and data, and more. Quenton was responsive to these requests and our company benefited from the process and from having the video on our website. I would highly recommend Qvision to another nonprofit or public sector group. The process will go well and the product is amazingly professional.

We have used Volk Video Services for two dance performances. He was great to work with! He is very friendly, professional, knowledgable, patient and really works with you to produce what you want! Everyone loved the video... We had a menu driven dvd & a compilation he created for us to music as a surprise in the video! He also gave us the video only one month after our show - which was during the busy Christmas season... I highly recommend! Please contact me with any questions.

I was very pleased with the project Flyby Aerial Media LLC completed for me and my company. Paul (the owner/operator) was very professional, and customized the project to our specific needs. His pictures were very well done, and the high resolution drone pics/video were great. His turnaround time from taking the photos/video to final draft of the edited video was impressive. Paul was easy to work with as he was very accessible through email and phone. I highly recommend this company for its services, and will be working again with Flyby Aerial Media LLC in the future.

Dave was instrumental in the success of a video project to memorialize my dad. It lasted approximately 14 minutes and was beautifully done from start to end. It was delivered on time and within budget. I would definitely recommend his service to anyone seeking high quality and affordable video services.

Chris did an amazing job. He showed up on time and did a great job of staying out of sight but some how captured it a lot. We agreed to 6 hours of his time (no second hand), a short video, raw footage, and 3 DVDs. He gave us the short video two weeks later, which was phenomenal. The DVDs showed up just a few days later. We were able to have everything before our honeymoon. I was so happy with how everything turned out.

As a businessman, one of the main things I look for in the people I associate with is ambition, which is exactly how I met Jenny Larson. She volunteered on multiple occasions to assist in various roles in projects I have directed or produced. And I was happy to bring her on in a more official capacity as Set Photographer on a video shoot for The Tonwnsend Hotel in Birmingham, MI, one of the most prestigious hotels in the world. I am producing their new social media video campaign, and having Jenny on set was an absolute BLESSING. Not only is she incredibly easy and fun to work with, she is a true professional. She impressed the hell out of my colleagues, delivered edited photos in just three weeks, and took beautiful, beautiful shots documenting what ended up being a very special day for us. I couldn't be happier with the photos and look forward to working with her again.

Brandon, from Dygytal Recordz, is an extremely knowledgeable professional regarding video production and editing. He was able to shoot my live musical event from multiple angles using state of the art equipment. He was on time, personable, and understood my vision. Not to mention, he was affordable. I would highly recommend his services for anyone that has an event that needs to be recorded and/or edited. I plan to use him again!

I've worked with Jeremy Dulac for more than a year in the production of my "Cars In Context" Cable Access TV show and content for my YouTube channel, and was so pleased to have his video production expertise on my team. His passion for excellence and innovation is what kept new ideas and show improvements on track for me, and it was refreshing to have someone like Jeremy champion the melding of tech and techniques to improve the engagement and overall watchability of my videos. That alone is a good reason why I can recommend having Jeremy Dulac on YOUR video production team -- but when you add in how much fun he is to work with, it becomes a no-brainer!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

    • Package 1: $1,400
      • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
      • Two cameras with audio equipment.
      • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
      • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
    • Package 2: $1,800
      • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
