Dan was the editor and a camera operator for our documentary film, Strong Sisters. His camera work was excellent - both for the interviews and for the b-roll he shot for us. Dan was reliable and showed the proper respect and professionalism at our interviews. But Dan's real impact was as our editor. He worked closely with us to filter 76 interviews into a 70-minute documentary. Dan was instrumental in finding the right quote to move the story forward. He worked with us to improve the flow of the story, add elements like graphics and archival video and photos, and pace the film so that is wasn't too slow or overwhelming. Dan went above and beyond an editor's responsibilities, supporting the project with new ideas and taking on the odd jobs that need to happen with this kind of independent film. His input was incredibly valuable and he was a pleasure to work with. He could be trusted to represent our project professionally and to work independently with our post-production team and other contractors. Any film or video project will benefit from his participation on the team. Feedback on the film included: "I was very impressed with the quality." "Inspiring, informative and entertaining." "Superb!"

Rodney filmed our wedding on 11/19/16 and did an amazing job! We hired him last minute and it is a decision we are so incredibly happy we made. In under a week, he had our highlight video done. He went wayyyy above and beyond our expectations. Now we can relive our wedding over and over again through the years through Rodney's amazing video! Not only was his photography skills amazing, he Rodney also has a great personality and is so easy to get along with... which is so very important when looking for someone who will be filming you for 8+ hours on your special day. I met Rodney for the first time on the day of our wedding and immediately felt like he was someone familiar to me. We 100% recommend him to anyone needing a videographer!

Judy and her assistant Dave were simply amazing! Our wedding photos are breathtakingly beautiful! I am so surprised at how much footage they were able to capture, half the time we weren't even aware of their presence! Judy is so easygoing and great to work with! I am so thankful we used Anderson Studios! They made everything so easy and at an affordable price!

We hired Walton Specialty video to film our wedding this past October. Both Bill and his wife Trevay were friendly, professional, creative and got the job done at an affordable price! Bill was very easy to work with, remained flexible and was a great communicator throughout our planning. We planned our Detroit wedding from Charleston SC and even had to evacuate for a hurricane just a week before the wedding! Bill laid out his idea for the day’s activities and it even included a pre-wedding interview where myself and husband to be described the day we met and how we got engaged. It was so sweet! I didn’t have anything like that in mind! As the bridal party was getting ready at the hotel, Bill arrived to set up his cameras for the ceremony and found that he the church was still locked. He called to let me know but I couldn’t get a hold of the key until a short time before the ceremony. Despite being locked out, Bill and Trevay were able to set up all the cameras and microphones just before our guests arrived! Of course he and his wife filmed the entire ceremony and the reception at a separate location as well. They also filmed the church and surrounding historical area and used it as the intro to the video- it was beautifully done! They also filmed our family and friends well wishes for the bride and groom which was a great way to wrap up the video! To top it all off, the package we received had leather bound case for our video and also a few extra discs for our family and friends! All in all, Bill and Trevay did a wonderful job capturing our big day and we could not be happier with our video!!! We look forward to watching our wedding day video on every anniversary to come!!!

We hired Jay to do the video for our daughter's outdoor wedding. He consulted with me prior to the event to clarify what we were looking for and to discuss details of the filming. He arrived early the day of the wedding to set up equipment well before the start of the ceremony. The cameras were not obtrusive at all. The final video turned out beautifully. It truly captured the sentiment of the wedding. We were extremely pleased with the service Jay provided and would highly recommend him to others.

Chris did an amazing job. He showed up on time and did a great job of staying out of sight but some how captured it a lot. We agreed to 6 hours of his time (no second hand), a short video, raw footage, and 3 DVDs. He gave us the short video two weeks later, which was phenomenal. The DVDs showed up just a few days later. We were able to have everything before our honeymoon. I was so happy with how everything turned out.

David Goodwin has been employed with my company Gunwerks for nearly two years. Our company is unique in the manner in which we have vertically integrated our marketing efforts with a manufacturing company that builds products using our very specific, very advanced technology. A defining characteristic of our marketing efforts surrounds the conveyance of complex information in easy to digest segments of video that we broadcast on our nationally televised program. Dave’s artistic talent has combined very well with his ability to understand these complex topics. The segments he has created have served our customer, and therefore, our company, very well. Dave has scripted segments, shot video, edited segments, and created all the graphics and 3D elements to complete a video project. In addition to video and very detailed 3D models, he was also tasked with production work for our print and website advertising campaigns. I believe Dave to be very capable and versatile. He seems very interested in creating artistic elements, and responds very well to challenging projects that enhance his experience and expertise. He has been an excellent team member and very pleasant to work with. In our organization, his ability to lead and complete a project without significant oversight was as much an asset as his ability to work with many different people with varied backgrounds in engineering, sales, marketing and even accounting, along with other talented professionals working with video and print media. I can offer a strong recommendation for Dave’s participation in your Creative Ventures program. He is uniquely suited to thrive in an environment structured as your program. He will contribute a balance of professional capability and youthful verve.

We've used Paul Taylor Films to make fantastic videos of our youth summer internship program for our non-profit, The Youth Connection. Mr. Taylor's professionalism and feedback on the overall production of our videos and what we should put in the videos was invaluable. Our funders LOVED the videos we produced with Mr. Taylor's help and we're looking forward to working with him again. If you are looking for complete video services (from shooting the video to post-production) we can't recommend Paul Taylor Films enough.

Beverly Boy is a very flexible company. They are willing to do almost anything to make sure a client is happy at the end of the day. We have had to go back and forth a few times and change a few things about my project, and every time they have no problem helping me in whatever way I deem fit! I couldn't be happier with the outcome of this. I will be using them again any time I need a video project!!

Chris was available on short notice and was very responsive throughout the scheduling and event process. I appreciate that Chris offered some approaches to shooting vs. determining the vision for himself. We had a minor glitch in the end, but he responded professionally about the issue - very dependable and easygoing (which is great to see in any person who values their work as he does)!

Kristofer was incredibly professional and I can not wait to start working with him! Our first meeting gave us such a great feeling that our video will turn out just the way we want it to. He asked tons of questions about us, how we met, how he proposed, etc., and, more importantly, what WE were looking for. Then he custom made us a package to fit our needs. He seems more interested in our love story instead of molding us into a cookie cutter video. I'm just so happy we found him here!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
