Extremely talented professionals are instructors here - Tom Starr well known throughout the Midwest as a fine percussionist, as well as quality instructors in strings, piano, guitar and horns.. This store treats their professionals with dignity and compensates them accordingly so students get the best quality music education. The owner, Brian, is a performing professional, as well, with a quality education and background in performance. Finally.......a quality teaching facility
It is easy to see that Matt loves what he does when teaching piano to my son, and he is very patient with his instruction also.
Mark is teaching my son to play guitar. He is patient with him and very open and flexible when scheduling issues arise. I would recommend him to anyone who asked.
The owner is very nice and helpful. Jeff, my daughters bass teacher is a cool guy who has lots of knowledge.
My 12 year old daughter had her 1st violin lesson with Ms. Stephanie. The instructor was great, very positive, kept it fun, interesting, and a great motivator. I would highly recommend her, and the GP Music Academy of Clinton Township even though based on just one lesson. I'm not a newbie to music/music instruction, so I feel this rating is well deserved.
Our daughter loves the guitar again thanks to Alexander! He has a great teaching style. We used to push her to practice before, but now she picks up the guitar on her own and can't wait for her next lesson because of her instructor. Glad we found him!
I, and my associates are all professional musicians, performers and artists of various talents. Personally, I have toured the U.S., Canada and Bermuda, performed on Cruise Ships and been offered contracts to perform on Broadway and record for Geffen records. I also hold a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and taught music in a local private elementary school. I have performed with several famous artists, and I know the value of learning how to do things properly from the beginning, before developing habits that will slow you down in the future.
We are primarily a sacred music academy. We teach basic musical skills, Arabic dance, classical music, operatic and other forms of voice, composition, conducting, and contemporary music.
Charlie has a wonderful laid-back personality. My son likes Charlie and never dreaded going to lessons. Also, Charlie is just really skilled on the guitar! I have no hesitation in recommending Charlie to anyone needing a great guitar teacher.
Ken began playing the guitar about 25 years ago. He has found himself in just about every musical situation conceivable. He maintains a busy schedule of teaching, recording and live dates. He performs and composes with his jazz/fusion trio, Slice of Pi, which is currently recording a follow-up to their debut CD. He also performs with rock group Merge. Over the years, Ken has performed with a wide range of artists and bands. He has also been involved in studio recording projects and commercial music and has written guitar method books, addressing improvisation and theory for the guitar. Ken frequently hosts clinics, demonstrating technique and theory. He studied jazz and classical guitar at Wayne State University and theory and composition at Oakland University. Ken studied under acclaimed guitar legends Joe Fava and Paul Abler. Currently, Ken teaches theory and guitar instruction privately. Some of his many influences include jazz, fusion, rock, funk, classical, progressive, and world music. Several notable musicians were key in Ken's development such as John Coltrane, J.S. Bach, Shawn Lane, Frank Zappa, Joe Satriani, Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen, and Miles Davis. Ken is a reputable guitar instructor, college educated, and professional musician. He has made teaching and performing music not only as a passion, but also as a career.
I am a double bassist and bass guitarist in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area. I recently completed my MM in improvisation at the University of Michigan and received my BM in music performance from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 2010. I have extensive experience in many styles, including classical, jazz, rock, folk, klezmer, Balkan, metal, and more. I have led many ensembles and have recorded and toured as a sideman for folk and indie artists. My primary areas of performance are contemporary classical music and improvised music that pushes the boundaries of what music can be. I have a passion for the history of music and am comfortable working within many idioms in order to give students a foundational basis to build from. As a teacher, I am excited to work with students to find the music they really love to play and help them delve into what matters most to them. The primary goal is to be able to make music that is as rewarding as possible. I am happy to work with students on orchestra repertoire, jazz standards, and any other prescribed material but would also work on composing original music, improvising, and expressing what is meaningful to them as individuals. The bass is an unlimited instrument -- no style is unavailable to you!
My 12-year-old daughter had been wanting a guitar for a while, so I got her one for her birthday. After a couple days of watching online videos about how to play, she seemed to lose interest. I guess it was too complicated, or boring, for her. I decided to try to find her a teacher, which is how Brian became my daughters guitar teacher. This has turned out to be the best decision. Brians teaching techniques are excellent. He knew right away how to keep my daughter interested in playing, without her getting bored. From the very beginning he started teaching her to play her favorite song. That made a big difference in my daughters motivation to practice. To my great surprise, she started to practice on her own at least one hour every day. Brian integrates guitar playing techniques (which can get boring) with playing songs, both at the same time. I think this is an excellent approach, especially for kids. My daughter now looks forward to every lesson. Communication with Brian is wonderful: he is never late, and if something does come up, he always notifies me well in advance. Lessons normally last 30 minutes, but if Brian sees that my daughter needs a little more time, he always stays longer to make sure that she understood everything in the lesson for that day. Margarita
Have had two bass lessons with John so far. He is a good teacher - very knowledgeable, good listener, and patient. He has a good way of helping learn technique as well as helping work on songs too. Highly recommend!
I teach ear training, rhythm, and technique to your favorite songs! Metronome manipulation as well as the slap-and-pop technique is my specialty. I teach R&B, rock, fusion, funk, pop, reggae, country and more. I am also a very seasoned and respected studio and fill-in bassist. I will ensure your band and/or recording will receive top-notch, high-quality, and uniquely original (if need be) bass lines that will break your neck!
I teach guitar through methods of natural rhythm and the cognitive thinking process, allowing students to learn the way they naturally would. I am here to help guide students to their own path.
